I think with what you are doing you should check out one or more of the local amateur radio clubs in your area. The benefits of doing this are many other hams are also very involved in survival and off grid operating. You would be a great resource to them and to yourself as well. When you are already working with ham radio groups when things go bad you will be "known" and a part of a group already. The license is easy to get, i have personally assisted many new hams to get on the air.
Thanks for this info Randall, I've been wondering which radio to get myself. And the FCC can wipe their butts with the rule book as far as I concerned. I'm sure they will be no where to be found in an SHTF event.
On the wouxun.us website there are three different models of the KG-UV2D that have varying transmit/receive ranges....did u get the 136-174 and 350 - 470 variety or ? (Sorry I believe you talked about this in the video, but I did not quite follow it.....thanks!)
@92Scalloped Thanks Ray, I added the FCC Part 97 in the description about emergency comms, which is why I talked about unlocking the radio for that reason... But anyways, the Wouxun is great and thank you for showing it to us!
you know that's an understatement, people hear disaster situation and some how believe that murder is legal, to steal is perfectly with in the law and that to act in calm manner like before the situation is illegal, people who are not prepared for any kind of disaster confuse me. can they really believe that its going to all be lolly pops and candy canes?(big fan keep up the good work)
These Radios are not FCC Type accepted to usege on FRS used on the FRS Radio Frequencies Not only are they NOT FCCt approved for FRS. They are overpowered (1 Watt lowest PWR setting avail .5 is MAX on FRS & many of GMRS) and feature a Removeable Antenna also not legal for FRS usage. I am seeing more & more misinformation regarding these radios. While not intentional, I hope it doesn't take someone getting busted to get the facts out. (Now if you just dont care, then it doesnt matter)

@edgybob1 if you transmit on the amateur radio bands, then yes a license is needed... if you unlock the radio and transmit on FRS/GMRS frequencies, then no license needed.
