  • And London just gets uglier and uglier.

  • @jnutkensvold I think glass towers look sleek and shiny. Makes the city look newer.

  • @jnutkensvold cunt

  • You can see it from Hornsey Rise, Highgate, not from tottenham though...best view is of course from Alexander Palace park if you're in north london !

  • Does anyone know whether it will be possible to see this a slight view of this building from Seven Sisters / Tottenham, North London? Thanks

  • how many stairwells?

  • Who owns the Shard?

  • You know, I just joined King's College London, Guy's campus recently as an undergraduate studying medicine, and this building is being built right next to Guy's hospital. It will look awesome once completed and I consider myself very lucky to be situated in such a lively place.

  • I believe it is up to half its height already it will look amazing when its finished !!! Fan tazzzz tikkkk

  • it's 2010 and i can't see it

  • woh....this is gonna look amzing when its finished ! Thanks for the post !

  • where can i get technical information on this magnificent structure??

  • @ganteng133 - You can get some great info fro the Sellars website

  • you can get some great info from the "Sellars" website

  • how many of you are members of the B.N.P?

  • did he say upon completion in 2010??

wth? i havent even noticed it yet....

    I love London =)

  • It will be topped out by the end of the year. The core has recently begun to rise.

  • cant wait to stay at the hotel lol

  • What would be nice would be a viewing gallery at the top. He says its potentially possible to see the channel on clear day, will easily see the sea to the east. Yeah, I like these things for the possibility to go sight see out of, the eye is quite good but this is obviously much higher so much better views.

  • im a londoner and very happy - i will be taking boat trips to see it while drinking wine lol

  • has any one noticed every building in london has a unique shape

  • Amazing!!! London-the most surveilled city on the planet. London city is changing rapidly and it's amusing to see how much people come to visit London all around the world. It's something to be proud about! X-..XC3LL3NT W0RK..-X

  • @LoNd0n3rAlLTh3w4y Well said!

  • Technical stuff !! wonder how long the lifts take to get to the top. But hey how long does it take to come all the way from top to the bottom of the stairs ?

  • A super speed lift lol joking.

  • Damn could of used some of this stuff in last years assignment ;-) luvya Dockdev !!!

  • Shard is an amazing looking building. The building being built next to it "baby shard" is a bit of a disappointment though.

  • Demolitions nearly completed on the site soon to be occupied by Shard. Also noticed in the meantime the smaller baby tower "Strata" (next to Castle House)at Elephant and Castle quickly climbing towards the sky.

  • The city of London will have temporary the largest building but there are plans to build much higher out in Canary Wharf, London where I think you will see the trend in taller buildings dwarfing the city centre.

  • There are no plans in canary wharf for a building larger than the shard... as canary wharf is on a flight path for City Airport.

  • True, but there's Wood Wharf next to Canary that is not on Flight path and there is no reason not to build as bigger skyscrapers as they like!

  • if you look at the styles !

    1) Canary Wharf = tall buildings, square shaped,

    2) City Centre = more towered tall buildings

  • London has some amzing projects! I hope that New York can keep up.

  • Kooool.....can't wait till this building is completed. Good post.

  • Bakalakpal....have you ever listened to an underpaid Open University Lecturer on

BBC2? .....that's monotonous ! I found this video to be quite informative covering a project which seems shrouded in smoke screens to date. I live 5 mins from the project site so it will have a dramatic effect on my views, so it was nice to get some informed views on the project. The debate as to whether it is a goer alone has been kicked around on a number of other forums which discuss tall buildings in London.

  • very monotonous

  • Thanks for that. Very good

  • Heron Tower is Under Construction, with the core and superstructure rising by November. Bishopsgate Tower will start in August, and London Bridge Tower will start at the end of the year. The three towers will be completed by 2011. Theres literally dozens more skyscrapers planned, approved or under construction. Theres about 40 in Canary Wharf alone! Bring on the 21st Century!! Instead of dim victorian streets and feeling we are in the 19th Century.

  • Well now its nealy November soo he Bishopgate is Under Construction now!

  • i've been driving up past this site, the pinnacle and i believe the heron tower site for the past couple of days now, they are all in the demolition stage, the latter two much close to construction beginning than the shard, although this isnt far off now. And yeah i worked on the barclays building as an engineers mate a few years back now, and once the ground work is done these buildings fly up, 2 years is plenty of time. It may not be occupiable by the olympics but it will certainly be there

  • oh wow, you can see the English Channel???!! Wish they'd start building though!! Or it'll never be ready for when the eyes of the world turn our way in 2012!!

  • Demolition of the building which currently occupies the site where "Shard" will be built is well underway. About 40% of it is demolished. Other delays are actually caused by other ongoing legal ranglings with other parties (i.e. Highways, Network Rail, TFL etc,) The finance is all in place and the development has achieved Building Regulation conditional approvals to build.

  • So it's certainley going up at some point, but realistically are you going to be able to finish such an amazing undertaking in under 4 years?

  • They are trying to have it built by the end of2011. I know it sounds like an ambitious target, but possible !! As it gets higher each floor plate becomes occupied by more "stair and lift core" and less floor area and columns, so each floor should be quicker to build.

  • Right, of course, it's essentially a pyramid. Well good luck, it looks fantastic, I'm really proud to be a Londoner. Just curious but what exactly does being the 'Technical and Engineering Teams Leader' entail?

  • :-) that question makes me smile !!!

In summary you could simply say that I assist designers and builders to erect healthy, safe and sustainable buildings......

  • Well you've got a great gig here!! Enjoy . . . . and yeah, good luck!!!

  • Oh, one more just generaly thing. How do you think "Shard" will affect the London Eye?! I'm guessing most people would prefer to glimpse the English Channel rather than Westminister!!

  • Not given much thought really. Suppose each will have their own appeal. Suppose the "Shard" will offer a more pleasant viewing experience (maybe with a small shop / cafe area etc...).As for the view of the channel suppose we need to count on the good ole' English weather and no pollution haze to benefit from that one !!

  • LOL, I guess, thanks and all!!

  • I love it-Londons own pyramid building

  • As tall as the Eiffel Tower and yet ACTUALLY FUNCTIONAL!

  • Still love this webcast, but where's the building ? still not much activity there, just alot of hoarding around the site....

  • Great video - Very informative. The Shard really should've topped out higher than the ET. I used to work in and around Southwark everyday and this will be a great addition to the area.

  • great building, wrong location though, doesn't suit southwark.

  • Problem with the North bank of london it's skyline is already starting to get congested when viewed from Bankside, and has even more tall buildings planned. Shard will stand on its own for years to come no doubt, a bit like 1 Canada Sq, Canary Wharf, did until the other adjacent towers were built. Shards location also centres on a busy transport location at a worldwide known location "London Bridge" which is very close to europes largest regeneration site ever, Elephant and Castle.

  • city of london is abit crowded now but there is more than enough space to develop at canary wharf, it is not necessary to be building 1000ft skyscrapers at a 3rd location, especially not in southwark of all places, it's very inconsiderate of residents.

  • great vid brother dear! like your specs but not to sure about the age you've listed...... hope your well, still looking sharp as ever, love nat(lit sis)x

  • COOL

  • Amazing !! Who gets the window cleaning contracts ?

  • The windows clean themselves

  • Brilliant video, great facts really kept my attention. Good bit of filming (do you have your own studio?). Can't wait to see this structure completed and against the London skyline.

  • Great webcast so informative....Double decker lifts !! We have a building being built in Chicago at the moment. Will reach the dizzy height of 2000ft when completed. !!!

  • ok, what ever -.-, man london can have 1 of them, but, we dont wanna go that far coz we are a historic city.........
