You might notice the similarity in this tale with Adam of Genesis. Archibald Sayce over 100 years ago said Adapa should have been translated "Adamu." Adamu in Akkadian is "Adam" in Hebrew. Check out "Historical Genesis from Adam to Abraham."

Enki 'tricked' Adapa because Enki did not want Adapa to become greater than he (his father). In other words, if Adapa became greater than his father then who would fish and feed (i.e. serve) Enki?

Note, as Enki/Ea gave Adapa wisdom but not immortality, the LORD bestowed immortality but not wisdom on Adam, and when Adam and Eve ate (i.e. acquired forbidden knowledge), the LORD wonders what would happen if Adam, having gained wisdom (like g-d), ate from the tree of life. Man would then have immortality and wisdom and be just like the g-ds.
