  • An Estonian (Autumn Ball, 2007) movie used this song in a scene: search for "sügisball - spell"

  • @piritapaadilaenutus If we were to focus on the film as a whole, could you tell me if this film lives up to the standards of this song. Nick Cave's music, in my opinion, requires very high cinematic standards (eg. Wim Wenders "Wings of Desire") and therefore isn't this movie dragging this song down? I'm asking this out of curiosity if Õunpuu looks like a serious director who's films are worth watching and not like Latvian present cinema which is just terrible and isn't watchable.

  • @WhiTeShaRk8000 I think it is one of the best Estonian movies of all time. It has received several prestigious film festival awards. You ask if Õunpuu is a serious director, well this movie depicts perfectly how serious he is. The film is about people looking for compassion in the depressive Soviet Era Estonia. If you watched the scene and did not find it a bit interesting then maybe it is not for you but I hope it isn´t so:)

  • @piritapaadilaenutus A single scene doesn't prove the quality of the whole film. I simply believe that with an excellent music, a director can hide his lack of film making, which apparently in this case wasn't true. I must say I'm quite intrigued by Õunpuu, I'll try to find this film. Many people who like Nick have quite interesting personalities themselves, hopefully Õunpuu is such case, then it's quite possible that I'll like this film... Thanks!

  • loveee

  • Nick Cave is a KIWI !! he is from New Zealand!! not fkn Aussie.

  • @justythrasher What the f... hell?

  • @justythrasher Nick was born in Warracknabeal, Victoria, Australia.. without a doubt!!

  • cave just can't come out with a horrible song,it's not possible

  • @lordchirpa yes he can!!! but they are also great!! remember o'malley's bar...

it's horrible but he wanted it that way

  • i am terrible at music, but have to attend a mandatory music class (don't ask).

im doing nick cave for an assignment, and i chose this song to analyse.

could someone please help me out and tell me what time signature you think this is?

i have failed so far to find the sheet music to help me out...

  • @thatmetalhead666 This is a year late, but I'll still try my hand at it:

If I'm not mistaken, it's 12/8, followed by one measure afterwards consisting of a single quarter note. Or something like that. I feel like it's one quadruplet compound measure, and a duple simple measure, repeated.

  • @lunaticasylum4angels

What, are you kidding? This song is in common time.

  • @EpicVikingBattle I honestly can't follow a 4/4 in this song, much less simple time at all. You honestly don't think it's at least compound? Maybe I'm totally rhythm deaf, but either the beat's subdivided into thirds for a measure or the drummer is playing a shitload of triplets.

  • @lunaticasylum4angels

No, it's a 4/4 going over two bars, the first divided into 3+3+2 (eighth notes), the second is just a simple 4/4. If you listen to the chord change at the end of the two-bar figure, that's two quarter notes, and then changing back to the first chord on the first beat of the first bar.

  • @EpicVikingBattle Huh o,o. I've honestly never heard of a simple time signature being partially divided into thirds, but it does fit the profile better than the weird "1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1/2/3/4" count I was doing in my head. Learn something new everyday.

  • Great song, great quality upload! Thanks

  • It's interesting how, on some of his more recent albums, this Australian artist does such a good job of portraying a quintessentially British mood in his songs. The slightly spooky and ominous feel of English countryside at night is captured beautifully in this song.

Don't laugh, but it actually reminds me of Watership Down (which evokes a very similar mood.) You can tell he lives near the South Downs.

  • warren is so great on this song, thanks.

  • My favorite song from abattoir blues thanks for uploading it on youtube ;)
