Just to think that someone once called these places home, now destroyed beyond repair and recognition. I still think Detroit can make it, it's a long shot, but damnit I believe in our ol' hood.
Too many videos focus on W Robinwood or West Grand & Lincoln. Both areas have little chance of seeing a revival any time in the near or distant future. Other places on the fringe of good areas stand a better chance of being rehabilitated.
Until Detroit gets knuckleheads out of city hall, investors will stay away.
Build a small CONUS base nearby. Take a detachment of vets freshly back from Iraq, who are already used to living in plywood seahuts and tents. Let them do a sweep and clear op on the whole place, then have them move in.

Too many videos focus on W Robinwood or West Grand & Lincoln. Both areas have little chance of seeing a revival any time in the near or distant future. Other places on the fringe of good areas stand a better chance of being rehabilitated.
Until Detroit gets knuckleheads out of city hall, investors will stay away.

Build a small CONUS base nearby. Take a detachment of vets freshly back from Iraq, who are already used to living in plywood seahuts and tents. Let them do a sweep and clear op on the whole place, then have them move in.
The whole place would be renovated in less than a year, tops. Probably take less than a few months. And given the racial makeup of the US Army, it's likely stay a neighborhood of ethnic minorities too.
They'd all vote Republican tho.

so is it just because the neighborhood is trashed that you shouldn't buy one of these cheap properties? or is it really unsafe there? i would love to be able to buy a cheap house, make my money off ebay and get out from under the rent man, even in an ugly neighborhood.
do you need a machine gun to live in these places, or is it just really ugly and lonely? i'm seriously asking this, i want my own house and i'm too poor to buy in seattle where even a burned out shithole or a vacant lot is 250K.

I have renovated homes that looked this band and/or worse and made them absolutely picture perfect. I enjoy the challenge presented by the work........I wish all of we renovators could get together and do something together in unity! I would love the challenge here.......

@mrbrandon71 I'm sure you would do an amazing job renovating these properties, however the problem is that the black's would steal everything in sight, the next day tools, and building materials would all be gone, you would spend a few thousand dollars on copper for the plumbing and water, and some negro would steal it all and sell it for $20.00 but it was a nice thought.

That brick house at 1:05 has so much to offer! And the 'overgrown' house at 1:18 is super cute... It's not so bad that a few have been demolished. A house with a double lot, or some green space on at least one side is really nice and much quieter.
If people live in the one at 1:40 on the other side of the tire pit, I feel for them.

yeah but it's all a matter of whats inside the houses... most people that are left there have resorted to raiding the houses for the scrap metal in the wires and fixtures. so if you probably look into the houses there, it would most likely be stripped down to the support beams...

It's a shame.... I live in NY and the neighborhoods look like this in some parts of western NY. It's all in the Rust Belt.
Those houses look like Kit homes or Sears homes. They're so cute. I'd be tempted to buy one, if I didn't have to deal with a resentful neighborhood of 'have nots'. I don't have much but I have a "dollar and a dream". (NYS Lottery catch phrase.)

@mustard0120 Yes, I can tell you. The people who live there now will kill you. That is, after they've finished robbing/raping/torturing you. Maybe they will 'turn you out' (make you into a sex slave, to be slowly raped/tortured to death). The people who live there have IQs ranging downward from 85. They are likely to be addicted to drugs, and eager to rob someone for drug money. The population of Detroit prevents anything being done with its stock of wonderful old buildings. So sad...

It is not hard to imagine a time when that was a vibrant neighborhood - in the day, those were quality houses. This is but a glimpse into the not-so-distant future for much of the country as productive people continue to be punished.
