The M.O. for a band where things are not going just right? Fire the drummer. Nirvana had 7 drummers. But 2 of them were on loan (Dan Peters, from Mudhoney; and Dale Crover from Melvins). Pearl Jam has had 5 drummers. I think The Mars Volta is on #5 or 6.  TMV has had the least excuses, because all of their drummers were in the top 5% of their craft. If you listen to Cobain's rationale, Chad was fired because Jack Endino did a crappy mix. Chad's live drumming with Nirvana was top notch.
