Helen Mirren was fantastic! She is the only reason I ever consider watching this movie again. I actually feel for Mrs. Tingle in this movie. She was shot at with a crossbow, tied up, and totured for days and then SHE gets fired because she tries to defend herself against her attackers? Leigh Ann did get the project wrong and she didn't deserve the A she changed it to. I hate the fact how we are supposed to feel bad for the students when they're the real villain's in this movie!
This actually IS my favourite scene of the whole movie...so powerful and intence...and it's basically the only one in wich we can actually see Mrs.Tingle as a human being(I mean...just look at her face in the end!!!:-O):simply wonderful!_____!
The thing that is strange is that even though Mrs. Tingle is so mean and misanthropic is that it seems as if she wants Lean to succeed, she wants her to learn. Mrs. Tingle does not want Lean to become her.
i agree. i think Tingle is, jealous of the future that she sees Leigh Ann can have because she herself can no longer have that. While she resents the doors that are open for Leigh, I think you're right in saying that she wants her to succeed.

Never before have I seen someone who is bound to a bed for more than 3/4 of a movie, having so much power. This seen is phenomenal. Helen is too good an actress to only have won her oscar last year. She is such a great actress.
I thought that is was a nice movie, but not great, because she lies in bed for like 2 days and she never needs to go to the bathroom. But this scene is one of my favourite moviescenes. Dame Helen Mirren is my favourite actress and she really does eat her alive in this scene! I just love it!
Katie Holmes is a decent actress but, Dame Helen eats her ALIVE in this scene - she conveys more emotion and, radiates more magnetism with one quirk of her eyebrow than Katie manages in her entire performance.

Notice how there's no BGM on during Tingle's speech. That's the mark of a good actress: SHE'S carrying the scene without the aid of the music.
