wtf?? why wasnt this happening in 2008? the highest attempt was 258 and here lifters who didnt even medal were opening with 250 and doing 260 for 2nd attempts!!
A long time ago in a strength mag Ken Patera claimed he could clean 600. I wondered about it since his best full lift was 505, that's almost 20% increase. Pisarenko could have cleaned this 272.5 and he did the whole lift with 270 in training, Vladimir Marchuk also completed 272.5
the weight was too much. he knew he couldnt make that lift, and the clean and jerk is very complex, if the weight is too heavy then it will just be an epic fail. the weight of the bar probably just psyched him out and his technique went out the window.
If he was able to get under the bar, I think he would have got it. Technique is vital. It's more difficult to get under the bar when the weight is heavier. It requires you to pull the bar up as high as possible, and still be fast enough to get under the bar while minimizing the drop.
Rezazadeh is a great lifter. Keep in mind, Chemerkin may not have got his technique down exactly correct in his final lift. I was hoping he would have got it. No disrespect to Rezazadeh because he too is one of my favourites. I always like to see the lifters succeed at their best attempts. I was hoping to see Rezazadeh in the 2008 Games, but it didn't happen. It would have been great to watch him perform.
In my book Chemerkin is one of the brutally strongest men in history but his weightlifting technique was far from perfect. A+ for the effort and balls to try such a huge weight though.
The most interestinn thing is his racking position, I swear he racks on his chest fat, look how far down his slbows are. And Reza looks so much leaner here then at Athens... amazing stuff.
Chemerkin SO strong! So STIFF! :D

DeadbeatXT 6 months ago
@DeadbeatXT He had to put up 272.5 to win.

Man i love the thunderous sound the weight makes when they drop, its awe inspiring. Then its 5 or 6 people just move it.

improved drug testing- the same reason why Marion Jones was running 10.6 with a full Tom Selleck stache in 2000.

@sr19 Well this is the reason why it was not happening in Beijing 2008, What an atrocious attempt!!
He just went for it but he had no chance,it was just desperation & he didn't even finish in the medal position.

yeh, sure he could, apart from the fact he couldn't even clean it lol
powerpunch2 3 years ago
No he could have not!
I am quiet sure about that. It is just too much.
Theres a reason why those 266 of 1988 have never been smashed. Simply too heavy.

im talking about the clean probs wdnt have got up lol but i think someone could clean it, doubt jerk it tho :P

Why does everyone bash chermerkin's technique? From what I can see the only thing wrong would be where his elbows are.
