omg...angels r singing..best womens voices ive ever heard and dats comin 4m a 35 yr old guy..unbeliveable..and still as good as ever..listened too elaine singing wit susan boyle and i was blown away by her..amazing..i cud listen 2 elaine and babara all day 24.
@MalaTemporaCurrunt I'm not too certain, but they have sung it live and precisely the same way. Musical theatre performers do this all the time, 8 times a week, and never have any issues. I mean, sure, your voice can betray you out of nowhere, but for the most part performers like these two can handle performing live easily.
This song, as a whole, is weak and shallow. I have nothing against these two brilliant performers. But Chess is a god awful musical, as are the musicians who wrote it. ABBA is as atrocious as this vapid piece i can't even justify as being called musical theatre.
@Triggy24 The book for Chess is very weak and quickly outdated by the end of the Cold War. Attempts to rewrite the book and re-imagine the songs have largely failed (although Someone Else's Story is a lovely addition). However, the music is stellar. It ain't Sondheim but it certainly rivals Sir Weber. As simple a song as "Anthem" is an incredible showstopper along with Nobody's Side, Pity the Child and You and I. 27 years after buying the album and I still often play it end to end.
Cheers for the upload - looooved this song way back when, and now I'm using it in mourning, .....never thought of it this way, back in the 80s, but as you get 'older' songs have different meanings:' ) Thanks so much again for this!!
Good to hear these 2 again. I was a big ABBA fan then became an EP fan through CHESS. Saw it twice (early 90s was it ?). Also, the first time I saw EP in concert she finished with this. We all thought she'd do the whole thing on her own, but in walked Barbara right on cue for chorus #1 !
@RascoHeldall Here who know's. this day and age VERY FEW can sing without the aid of computers or tech no to help there voice. There's very few people out there who can say they need no help when it comes to singing!! this Is from my childhood of 1984/5. I was 9. Back then PEOPLE COULD SING!!!!! not like now a days where its all computers!!
Like Abba would sing "Thank You For Music" Elaine and Barbara, you have given billions of people pleasure with your songs and music ,you are in our hearts for-ever- we love you ..
i think at the time B&B were trying to find a good duo to somewhat match Agnetha & Frida's similiar voives. Barbara & Elaine did a good job. I think they should've done a complete album on thier own.
@stunninglad1 thats mad how can bonnie tyler who i think is good overtake this gem? its like ultravox vienna kept from the number 1 spot by that crappy novelty song.
@hargohargo2 As I said it was close. I rate both songs as brilliant. However a more upbeat song was always destined to clinch my No.1 for 1985 honour. My1984 winner was Lionel Richie with his classic song 'Hello.' The haunting music from that song summed a totally depressing year for me. The year of 1985 marked a more upwards and onwards approach by me and this was shown in the varied music I liked. Thanks for your reply.
The sound on this video is fabulous. I have been watching ever version available of this duet and this is far and away the best one. This is becoming one of my favorite songs since I saw Elaine and Susan Boyle do it. Now I have to see the musical!
This is a good version Shay I taking tthe sound to use in an video clip that I'm using for an new clip to post on my as I have now found some very rare chess stuff. Like the very rare complete cast recording . I'm in the process of having a new Channel for my ABBA live Rareites.
@Mrroydoncrossing Cheers Bill, that would be the holy grail.I wonder if they demoed more songs from chess apart from the ' heaven help my heart ' demo from Aggie

@jimmyd05 "Sir" Webber is rivaled by many children's tunes.
But I agree with everything you said about Chess.

Only Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding Out For A Hero' would stop this being my top record from 1985. I Know Him So Well therefore checks in at No.2 from 1985.
