I think if ABC had advertised the show more then it would have gotten better ratings. This show grew on me after about four episides and once I really started to like it, it got cancelled. But I read on the Facebook page that there's a possible DVD release of the first season in development!
i think the premise of this show was a bit too unbelievable to sell like KOTH, i mean Hank Hill was a relateable man for everyone, but this overtly liberal family is just out of touch with america.... i think if Judge toned it down a little i might of succeeded

I think if the show kept running, Mike Judge would have found his ground on where he wanted the show to go as he did with KotH. Season 1 Hank is much different than Season 13, and for the better.

Never seen this series and am not familiar to this series. I'm only familiar to Beavis and Butt-head, King of the Hill and Office Space, that's it. And Gerald Goode kinda sounds like David Van Driessen and Bill Lumbergh.
That's because Judge leans right, which is why Hank Hill is quirky, but ultimately a down to earth Texan conservative that's always right and these people are charicatures of hippie liberals who support communism and the enemies of the troops etc... It's the opposite of American Dad in Judge's own style.
The first five minutes are surprisingly awkward and lifeless... but stick around - there's a HUGE shift in quality when they get to the supermarket! (Different writers? What the heck?!)
I LUV this show! It's not Laugh Out Loud funny but it has it's moments and I find it quite entertaining. Too bad they cut it, I'd really like to see it come back on.

Already watching just this short clip I can say it's not really very funny. Sure it lampoons liberals, but that by itself isn't very funny. KOTH was a very deep, complex show.

Haha it's just like King of the Hill but with the exact opposite characters. Kind of goes overboard in making fun of them, though. In KotH you could actually like the characters, whether you were liberal or conservative. Both sides can both be quite ridiculous but these guys are over the top and stereotypical. Hank Hill would kick this family's ass and I'd join him.

King of the Hill was a good satire of conservative middle America because Mike Judge is actually conservative; he's making fun of himself and people he knows. The Goode Family fails because Judge is just making fun of stereotypes, and its too over the top.

As a side comment, how can you make up such nonsense? An episode barely referencing Sarah Palin got her panties up in a twist.

This show proves it's far easier (and more successful) to parody the conservative side rather than the liberal. It's why this is canceled and a show like American Dad is still considered strong.

Many right-wingers watch Family Guy and enjoy it, even though Seth MacFarlane throws his anti-religion/anti-conservative propaganda in each show...The only difference is, conservatives can laugh at themselves, while liberals "become offended" and scoff, due to believing that people who disagree with their self-righteous ideals are racist, homophobic, nazis, and all-around evil people.

This show got cancelled because liberals have no sense of humor. They can't see that they're not perfect. Mike Judge does a lot of social commentary and he shows in this series that liberals can be just as fucked up as the rest of everyone.

I have just seen The Goode family for the very first time. I guess the reason why it was cancelled after only one season was because of too many similarities with King of the Hill.
Both shows are great anyway, but why can´t i look at Gerald Goode without seing Mr. Van Driesen from Beavis & Butthead? ;-)

This show was really stupid. I wouldn't mind people making fun of liberals if it actually made sense. "Oh liberals care about the environment and people being equal. Fuck them!" Even the vegans that I go to school with aren't anything like this family. There's probably a small, small minority of people that are actually like this family. That's why it's not funny. That's why this show was canceled.
