  • Beautifully executed......but, the shudha jhumura nach is even more beatiful....the beats r of the shudha nach but the steps are very different.

  • hi menaka, such a rivetting performance!!! Love it

  • Wow! its beautiful. never heard of sattriya dance before. I work with Indian dancers in Paris and this is one of the most rivetting performances i have seen. where can i watch this dancer perform live?

  • It is Jhumura dance indeed. It is performed using Sattriya choreography ie. using mati akharas that flow with the spiritual and aesthetic meaning of jhumura as Sattriya is a classical dance form besides being a devotional and ritualistic performance art form. It is the duty of the classical performers to take this dance form forward and not just presenting it as a 'frozen art form'. No art form can flourish if it exists as a mere form of imitation.

  • This is definitely not Jhumura Dance of Sattriya, although the rhythm or the beats have been taken. It is a request to the artist not to change the centuries original composition and style of Shrimanta Shankardev. Kindly donot repeat this.

  • @kalabhumi Any dance piece is not "frozen" if it is performed again and again. To take a dance form "forward"an artiste need not mutilate the original. Creativity lies in creating new pieces within a given format. If such attitude is shown what will remain behind for next generations. If the same attitude was shown by the Sattras or the Barbayans and Bayans of the Sattras, do you think you would have ever known what Jhumura Naach looks like? Think about it for the sake of the dance!
