i liked your documentary, the only thing i was wondering about:
why do SE travellers always blend out on thai culture actually?
the main part about discovering foreign countries is to meet and, if possible, understand the local people. they are the key to the mystery/spiritual thing going on there we all are looking for.
i was kinda digging your nudity thing there. east germans used/use to do it all the time. if you´re caught in a system, it´s a way to strip lose off it.
dan great work, thats something like what i had planned in my head for wen i go next summer. you have led the way for me now. brilliant n thanks for info! keep it real lad! Rob
@moonfrogrich2 Thanks mate, glad to know they film is serving some good use. Lot of time and effort so not sure if there will be much more of that sort of thing coming from me, that is unless by some stroke of luck it gets picked up by one of the networks
@moonfrogrich2 Actually I did gently knock him over when he tried to grab me in the see when we were all drunk swimming at night. But I had to be diplomatic all the way after all he turned out to be the star of the movie and I had strong feeling he would be so tried to maintain a constant journalistic neutrality to bring out the best (or worst) in him
Hey thanks, it's great to get such positive feedback makes the effort worthwhile. I still can't believe almost 700 people have watched it all through. Please do recommend to your friends, hope they enjoy it too. Thanks Dan
Hahaa!!! What an excellent adventure film! I'm definetely going to reccommend this documentary to all my friends who love the Beach book! Brilliant! Thanks!
I dont understand, why didnt you go to Maya Bay, just off Koh Phi Phi, where the film was set and camp over there. I understand you wanted to find your own place, or your own paradise or what not, but think it would have added much more perspective and been a good way to compare things.
I camped over there a few weeks ago and it was beautiful, and to stay over when nobody else is there and it is deserted is amazing. I can't believe it wasn't mentioned once.
@stu1512 Hey Stu. Thanks for checking out the film. In answer to your question the book and film was actually set in the Ang Thong marine park on Thailand's east coast. However they film it near Koh Phi Phi as you say. Apparently the real place inspired it is actually in the Philippines so we could have come at this from several angles but I chose to follow the book literally. I've also visited Koh Phi Phi Ley which as you say is lovely but but lots of sight seers pass through it every day.
@danstanbury1 if you figure out how to do that you MUST let me know! I can't wait to get back there as soon as possible :) I miss it so much it makes me sad...
@DamajaCJ Thankyou for watching the film right the way through I think you're the first to do it online so congrats :) Yes the end of the film was really the thing that made it possible to turn into a film and it was purely luck that we hooked up with this guy Jean. We had no idea what he was like until we were on the island but he really makes it for us. There was loads of even more extreme stuff that we didn't catch on camera including Jean literally rolling around in the fire naked!
ohhh srry nvm, im a bit squiffy. i speeded through now watched again.
hey, nice little project with your friends right there.
makes me wanna do something similar someday.
thanks for posting...

@moonfrogrich2 Honestly I'd go there, at least to Haad Thien / Haad Yuan which is still one of my favourite places. It's nothing like Haad Rin.
