hi nopush - good question, and your first guess is correct - all light is seen by the illumination of dust / fog / water-vapor, etc, etc particles that exist in the open air - in a perfect vacuum (with absolutely ZERO dust / particulates), a laser beam would be invisible... cool, eh? ;)
