If you liked Affluenza, you should read Herbet Marcuse's 'One-Dimensional Man' and Erich Fromm's 'The Fear of Freedom'... these are the first works that truly tackle the cultural and psychological aspect of capitalism (they were writing between the 1920s-60s), and much of what they say is found in Affluenza.
Rosie? Where have you been, we need some intelligent literary talk :)
Speeking of which: Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky.
I heartily recommend it, not only is it a great story, but it also explores themes such as the will to survive, the nature of time and the interaction between various philosiphies.
@leapoffaith20 I'm editing a video right now! I haven't really had much time to read because of exam religion but that sounds like a great book, I shall read it!
How many BNP guys did you suck off on the train? I know you dream about it. Your wet pussy can't stop thinking about it. How about one from the front and one from behind after a nice dinner? Have a nice day baby.
you seem to know loads about UK book selling - I'm in London and there's a little independant book store near me which focuses on kids and teenage books. If I ask them do you think they will be able to order in Will Grayson Will Grayson?? I'd quite like to support them if I could... thanks :D
I never actually read The Secret, but a lot of people seem to be pushing it... and I mostly agree with your assessment even though I haven't... it sounds like Law of Attraction repackaged. Oh well. I'm not too big on non fiction but maybe I'll have to give your new interest a try once I finish my current book. Nice update!
I understand the whole "commercialism is bad thing" but . . . I think you bought the book didn't you? I think he would thank you for fueling his commercialism.
I came across your videos by chance i must say you truly have such a funky and beautiful mind, i hope you're proud of that, also thought it was cool that you had some mexican family background cos so do I hehe, anyway take care. Adios
he's a clinical psychologist. i've notread affluenza but i have read `they fuck you up`. everyone swhd read it and it'll make a whole generation better parents. absolutely fascinating. about developmental psychology, and the effects of early care on development. fascinationg and everyone read it.
I am really excited for the new season but it doesn't start here until April 17th, which is really sad and not quite close enought for my liking. I am curious to see Matt Smith...but I will always miss David Tennant!
I actually picked up Affluenza after you mentioned it in your previous video. I'm only a little into in, but I like it a lot. It certainly makes you think.
haha, yeah the secret is massive pile of crap! Yeah, if you think you want something the universe will make it happen... beyond crap. Always good to hear sceptical thinking lol!
I am so jealous that Britain gets all the Doctor Who stuff early. You think with the technology we possess these days we could get it simultaneously. Also, have read Affluenza, and its a great read, seriously, loved it!
great blog today rojas! I'm also a first year English undergraduate from London (at Nottingham atm) so it's great watching the vlogs of someone so similarly minded :)
(btw if you're gonna go for any self-help books check out Anthony Robbins' Awaken the Giant Within, tis pack with intelligent motivational tips!)
You've only just finished!? My uni broke up two weeks ago! :S
When I saw the description before the video, I read it as Jamie Oliver for some reason XD Very different :P
Woo, Doctor Who! I'm gonna make videos about it too :P I actually made videos about The End of Time before even finding you realising you do the same thing on TARDIStacular :P
Rosianna, have you read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts? My friend Lindsey, who's currently travelling the world (green with envy)...well, to say she recommended it is an understatement. She described it as "the book around which my life revolves" on her travel blog. High praise indeed from someone who doesn't read an awful lot. Have you read it and what did you think?
@Elrich89 My sister read that last year! She did say it was fantastic, I'm going to try to read it once I'm done with exams :) Thanks for letting me know about a further recommendation, though, sounds like this book really is something special.
woo Doctor who, can't wait. but I'm gunna be drunk at this party when it's on sooooo I'm leaving it til sunday to watch. thank the timelord for iplayer :p
@06clared Trying to do them slightly more regularly but still just ending up with maximum one a week! Gah! Hopefully I'll be able to do more and more varied ones this summer, it's a target.
Oh ya, I forgot to ask, are you on a trimester program? where you're summer is only 1 month long. My break is about three months! =] haha trains.....never ridden one of those in the states. Anyway, you'd better answer my questions this time!
@drew335533 Don't worry, the questions video is in production as it were. But no, the third term is basically devoted to exams. And huzzah for Chicago.
@missxrojas Alright good. Wow I fail at grammar, in the question above; I hope you noticed that! How long are you at home for? As for following you on Twitter, I don't think I would sacrifice my dignity and join twitter, simply so I could see your wonderful tweets of wisdom. Chicago is awesome, however I believe it to be quiet different from London though. Have you ever lived abroad for a long time? I imagine the culture shock to be pretty significant.
Haha you like Chicago? I do as well, I believe I'm going to university there next year. Maybe we'll run into each other? (no creepyness or sexual harassment intended). Anyways, self help books are nice, but honestly unless you actually plan on performing actions to improve you're life, I would say it is a waste of time,
@xDaytimeDreamingx I've got a private and public account, my public one is papertimelady, I just removed pretty much everyone except some of my closest friends because I've been getting some fairly scary messages. Sorry!
@soundslikesabrina I don't accept requests for my private twitter (just because some scary people have found out a bit too much about me via that) but you're more than welcome to follow me on papertimelady, my public one :)
Good to see people against the Secret. What a load of crap!! And OMG good to see you are paying attention to Doctor Who. Please don't mention to much about it. I can't believe it doesnt air in Australia until the 18th, still good old Youtube may help me out there!
I found The Secret really upsetting, I have the teen and the adult versions, and just... *shudders* (In my defense both were gifts..) But we'd know that 'you' meant us without the capital letter, I just... No want. XD

It's embarrassing how fond I've become of this young woman. She represents Britain so well. She might be a kind of natural royalty.
She would be such a wonderful organizer and advocate for good causes like independent organic farming CSA's, animal rights, and Work Co-ops.
James's 'Affluenza' is a very good recommendation.
Compiling facts from such popular sociological research books makes for good articles.
Re cities for which she might have a natural affinity, I hope she will consider Boston.
