hey your not studying kuntaw you are such an ignorant person i'm one of the kuntawista if you never taken kuntaw you should just keep your mouth shut.
i beleive that all martial artist is great no matter what styles you are on but if you keep on your training your are still the best it's all depends to the practitioners so those who are in martial keep on doing what you are now and keep the discipline for yourself and makes you the best martial artist and the worlds so good luck to all!!
this is explanation to all the confuse people who wants to know about the differents between kuntaw and japanese styles:stances is stronger than karate and their punches too is weak called diving punch not powerful enough but kuntaw beleives strong stances using their hips and straight punches and helping with the other hands it's multiply the power that is not copy cat who ever gave that comment it made a big different than karate and we are filipino ashame with the styles your not pinoy
KUNTAW participated @ Durham open tournament in Raliegh,NC USA May 3rd,2008 saturday grab four 1st place and 1 2nd place the ff: participants are kyud jarmarl sharpe-1st place fighting/weapons,kyud chuck moore-1st place weapons kali and forms (kata),
kyud josh mahoney took 2nd place forms(kata)no one came home empty handed MABUHAY
Why does some of the Kuntaw look like Karate? Because it is. GM Lanada has embraced karate and has let a lot of the traditional Filipino flavor fall by the wayside. It looks more and more like Karate every day- some ancient Filipino martial art- NOT Too bad Filipinos do not embrace their own arts and have to copy Karate
I have come the conclusion that that if I could learn 3 art forms Kuntaw, Kali ,and Win Chung I would be at peace. these Art forms are very deadly and hard to defend against.
However I do agree with Bruce Lee in that the best way is no way. As for me tho I have fell in love with these 3 art forms. I would love to be trained in them!
Kuntaw saved my life...literally!!! I would not be here today, if my (now) wife Kyudai Alicia Lanada Kossmann (daughter of Grandmaster Lanada) did not literally save me from three armed attackers- 1 gunman and 2 knife attackers.
Kuntaw is a complete system...stand up, ground, inside, range, locking, press pts and kali.
It has been working since 1365.
I have dedicated the rest of my life to ensuring that the true art of Kuntaw will continue to help the coming generations.
im also a kuntawistas since 1985,working now here in qatar uae, im from legazpi kuntaw philippines, blackbelt playing so many times in tournament representing our club, this video is 100% good. im accepting those from other style's challenge, whatever they want!!!! so im proud to be a kuntawistas!!!
My instructor Sir JHUN PECAOCO from Suntokaran Todo Bakbakan has trained in Kuntao-Kali Silat but he said this style fits more on "streetfighting" and not MMA.
I was one of the Maharlika Kuntaw guys in the Pampanga area who trained under Conrado Turla back in the 70's.. we still had the forms that represented both the chinese and indonesian forms.. I still teach them to my students and my students have used the training in real world combatives, not necessarily sport, but real world situations when the crap hit the fan and you needed to rely on your training to get you home at night
Thx monk I like it! For sure FMA's are true to the essence of military and street combat. If you learn FMA's you will never have a need to mix them with anything else, you can keep it pure FMA and be a champion.
Filipino Kuntaw has been in the states for more than 35 years.. There are kuntaw schools located in San Diego, Traverse City Michigan, North Carolina, and Virginia. I was one of the first american instructors of Kuntaw in the mid 1970's when the Filipino arts weren't that well known.. In the early 70's Kuntaw was also known as Kuntaw Kungfu due to the influences of both the chinese and indonesian arts.
Just my .03 pesos due to the inflation rate fluctuating
The arts from the Phillipines are some of the best. TKD taking over from the indonisian arts what a joke. On the street my money is on the Phillipine arts over TKD anyday.
i will fight ANY Tae Kwan Do guy ANY and represent Kuntaw, and show the world how awsome Filipino arts are. Filipinos are great martial artists! Mabuhay!!!
understandingly, this vidio is weak in it's appearance, but trust me after studying kuntaw with the grandmaster carlito lanada for over 30 years this is only a fair representation of what true kuntaw realy is. god bless grandmaster carlito lanada. kyude bill roy.
I'm not talking about the visuals or the people in it. I'm talking about the use of the song "kung fu" fighting. That disco song is an insult. It has no relevance to the art, the country, or to the people. It's more of a show of disrespect than anything else.
Thank you Antonio and Frank for touching base of the Filipino martial arts. It's sad to hear that Taekwondo is so dominant in the Phillipines. Please keep doing what you're doing. I love all scientific martial arts!
if someone would write an arnis song i would be happy to include it in my next vido. unfortunately there are only songs for kung fu and boxing. there are also no muay thai songs but there is a UFC song.
Fantastic video! Thank you for letting everyone know that Kuntaw still exists in the United States. We are proud because we are Kuntaw and we are filipino. I am sure our master is happy to know that you are exposing Kuntaw in a positive way. Mabuhay ang Kuntaw.
great videos,i am proud to be pinay and show this video world wide and we are happy that american embracing our own culture and martial arts style and i do hope this video send messages to the philippines peoples that we should be proud of our own cultures and embrace it other than another country.mabuhay sa lahat by the way i am one of the kuntaw practitioner and proud of what i learned

I like filipino martial arts but the take down defense that was demonstrated here in this video was not very good.
todei79 3 years ago
correct! filipino martial arts are pure offense, focusing in vital parts, and counter attacks, no defense
