this is explanation to all the confuse people who wants to know about the differents between kuntaw and japanese styles:stances is stronger than karate and their punches too is weak called diving punch not powerful enough but kuntaw beleives strong stances using their hips and straight punches and helping with the other hands it's multiply the power that is not copy cat who ever gave that comment it made a big different than karate and we are filipino ashame with the styles your not pinoy

Why does some of the Kuntaw look like Karate? Because it is. GM Lanada has embraced karate and has let a lot of the traditional Filipino flavor fall by the wayside. It looks more and more like Karate every day- some ancient Filipino martial art- NOT Too bad Filipinos do not embrace their own arts and have to copy Karate

I have come the conclusion that that if I could learn 3 art forms Kuntaw, Kali ,and Win Chung I would be at peace. these Art forms are very deadly and hard to defend against.

However I do agree with Bruce Lee in that the best way is no way. As for me tho I have fell in love with these 3 art forms. I would love to be trained in them!

Kuntaw saved my life...literally!!! I would not be here today, if my (now) wife Kyudai Alicia Lanada Kossmann (daughter of Grandmaster Lanada) did not literally save me from three armed attackers- 1 gunman and 2 knife attackers.

Kuntaw is a complete system...stand up, ground, inside, range, locking, press pts and kali.

It has been working since 1365.

I have dedicated the rest of my life to ensuring that the true art of Kuntaw will continue to help the coming generations.

My instructor Sir JHUN PECAOCO from Suntokaran Todo Bakbakan has trained in Kuntao-Kali Silat but he said this style fits more on "streetfighting" and not MMA.

I was one of the Maharlika Kuntaw guys in the Pampanga area who trained under Conrado Turla back in the 70's.. we still had the forms that represented both the chinese and indonesian forms.. I still teach them to my students and my students have used the training in real world combatives, not necessarily sport, but real world situations when the crap hit the fan and you needed to rely on your training to get you home at night

Filipino Kuntaw has been in the states for more than 35 years.. There are kuntaw schools located in San Diego, Traverse City Michigan, North Carolina, and Virginia. I was one of the first american instructors of Kuntaw in the mid 1970's when the Filipino arts weren't that well known.. In the early 70's Kuntaw was also known as Kuntaw Kungfu due to the influences of both the chinese and indonesian arts.

The arts from the Phillipines are some of the best. TKD taking over from the indonisian arts what a joke. On the street my money is on the Phillipine arts over TKD anyday.
