@dkyx I kinda meant that all in the context that this was made for little kids. Of course, Akira is more violent, but it's for adults. As a little kid, this movie would be horrifying. And Bay's Transformers may have been violent, but, as you said, it's for adults and teens. What makes this movie brutal is that it came out of nowhere. For a little kid, this would be shocking. But, to each his own. I still like Beast Wars and Beast Machines better. DINOBOT!
@Rosebunse Animated violence or no, the concept of a permanent defeat/death only truly hit home when it happened to Optimus Prime to some kids who watched it. So it was, at least, with me. I was a bit young, and in my case, I didn't realize that so many characters would never return. In any case, animated violence in this movie is nothing when compared to more modern counterparts, like computer animated games like Resident Evil for GCN or Wii.

Good video. Little thing that I would flip around. Whenever it says "The needle tears a hole" that is when I would show the part in the vid where Megatron throws the spike into Optimus' side. Otherwise damn good song. You got the emotion of Prime's battle with Megatron down pact, his death. Love the black and white sequences. And yes Cash's version of the NIN classic is way better.

I had a small revelation watching this and its rooted in the fact that Optimus really got in the heart and soul of a lot of children.I know it sounds silly saying a celluloid character did this but he did.I mean he really got into our hearts.Thats why so many cried and still feel the pain in watching him die. I feel little tears even now watching this. I know for myself, he was like a father figure. The makers of this cartoon really did an exceptional job in humanizing him.
I agree. Optimus is one of those characters that I think writers have to be truly inspired to come up with such heroic traits and such a humbleness that makes everyone love him.

This movie was controversal. I talked to Susan Blu who played the voice of Arcee on the phone about this movie once, and she didn't seem to care. Shame on all of these people who made this movie! Sunbow and Hasbro are also to be blamed!
Why do you say it was controversial? Is it because it was an obvious way to reinvent the brand by killing off major characters? Perhaps this is so, but many things about it (especially the deaths) make it the classic it is, held in higher regard than not only its peer animated movies (GI Joe, Thundercats) but even other sci-fi movies since.

Best Transformer MV ever. I remember sitting in the theater still shocked at Ironhide and Ratchet getting killed with Braun and Prowl on the shuttle. Along with the others they showed dead in the battle Wheeljack Windcharger. And then Optimus died. And well I died a little inside too. Truly Epic work well done.
I think it was a big mistake made by the creators of Transformers of killing off Optimus Prime. I've heard he was dead for good. Luckly, protests from fans of Transformers caused the creators to bring him back to life.

@Rosebunse Rose I grew up with TF g1, I've seen the movie and series countless of times and have had boxes full of TF toys.
It's robots against robots, violent only in the technical sense of the word.
And about that scene you speak of, yeah robots tend to explode when hit by lazuuuhrs ;)
TF was never meant for kids under 6 or so, and the G1 series had plenty of similar "violent" scenes, just less detailed.
Animated violence, meh, try Akira, then watch the Transformers '86 movie again.

Why do you say it was controversial? Is it because it was an obvious way to reinvent the brand by killing off major characters? Perhaps this is so, but many things about it (especially the deaths) make it the classic it is, held in higher regard than not only its peer animated movies (GI Joe, Thundercats) but even other sci-fi movies since.

Best Transformer MV ever. I remember sitting in the theater still shocked at Ironhide and Ratchet getting killed with Braun and Prowl on the shuttle. Along with the others they showed dead in the battle Wheeljack Windcharger. And then Optimus died. And well I died a little inside too. Truly Epic work well done.

I think it was a big mistake made by the creators of Transformers of killing off Optimus Prime. I've heard he was dead for good. Luckly, protests from fans of Transformers caused the creators to bring him back to life.
