@jeskai3ai3e the bible is not a rule book???? What are the ten commandments than???? What the hell is every single christian priest in this world bullshitting about, telling their retarded frock to live by the "word of god"?????
@jeskai3ai3e Even if that's the case, the question remains: why did God not condemn these acts back then? God seems to show a lot of tacit approval for some heinous things, for someone who's supposedly so against homosexuality.
I'd never put God in a box...not intentionally anyway. I believe God is so big and vast that we couldn't begin to understand Him if we tried. God does not hate gays, athiests, or anyone who is other than Christian. God does not send someone to Hell for being gay or for committing suicide. I am not saying suicide is right, it is primarily due to years of tramatic experiences and the inbalances caused by them.
@maktorri9 "God does not hate gays, atheists"? Are you talking about the god in the bible? He want's non-believers and homosexuals killed by stone (even their live stock) and tortured for eternity. If that is not hate, I really dont' want that god's sympathy.
Seriously, have you read the bible? May I recommend just Leviticus. Enough stuff there to question the morality of the bible god. Seriously, you need to read the bible.
@LimenSpirit first of all, the Bible has been changed so much throughout the years. Mostly by the sickness of men. Secondly, did you read my comment all the way through? Did you even pay attention to the end of it?
@maktorri9, you mean about homosexuals not going to hell? according to 1 cor 6:9 fornicators, effeminates and homosexual will not enter the kingdom.
Anyhow, I shouldn't spend time studying the bible for you; for the most part I think it is a scary, dumb ans ridiculous book. You read it.
In my opinion, the "corrections" to the bible have been improvements. Jesus and the new testament is more meritorious than its god's previous doings; which again I think were horrible and inmoral.
@LimenSpirit no one has to study the Bible for me. I have read enough to know that not everything sounds right, even though I want to make God #1 in my life. The last part of my comment is VERY important as most victims of tramatic crimes are moulded to be certain ways, like gay or suicidal for ex. Now why would it say in the Bible that God sends all gay people to Hell even though it is not their faults they are the way they are? Yes the Old Testament is very scary and confusing as well.
@maktorri9 well, to be honest, Jesus is a pretty nice roll-model (as described in the bible), i like him. And I can appreciate the idea of god, I just dont share it. And Hope it's not the one in the old testament. it is just arbitrary, bias and violent.
@LimenSpirit I can agree with you on that. I like Jesus too. And I'm seeking God through personal meditations and so far I am happy with it. Just focussing on God's good side, because believe me, I have seen far too much negativity in my lifetime, and I'm sure everyone else has too.
@LimenSpirit Jesus is a nice role model??? The Jesus who cursed a fruit tree for not having fruit out of season? The Jesus who said to follow him you must hate your parents? The Jesus who told his disciples he spoke in parables so that most people would not understand? The Jesus who supported slavery & multiple wives?
@Strangerinasland Yeah, those are ridiculous and wrong, but all and all, I think he is still a good character or had a good character. Honestly I have more problems with his delusion of being the son of god and humanity savior than the things you mentioned.
@LimenSpirit Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, did you enjoy the play? Hitler was a nice fellow too. Except for all the horrible things he did. Have you read the Holy Babble? What are you basing Jesus' good character on? The little I mentioned should be enough but it's a drop in the bucket. The little good Jesus said or did is much overwhelmed by the nasty things he said & did. He is 1 of the few worst possible role models. Yahweh, of course, being even worse.
King James Version (KJV) 61But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Christ is from the Greek word for the Jewish Messiah which was not to be a begotten son of God. Son of the Blessed is very ambiguous. (cont)
@LimenSpirit (cont) Jesus said ye shall see the Son of man. Talking of oneself in 3rd person is freaky. If he's being asked whether he's the son of God, he doesn't give a straight answer, to say the least.
Other times his answer is "You have said it". I don't find any instance of him saying he is The Son Of God. If I've missed something, I'd like to see it.
@Strangerinasland That is quite interesting. I'd like to insvestigate about it. Idid find many sites claiming he did. But it would be really cool if we was that vague about it. I hope there are many instances in the bible where the prophets say that god loved us so much that he sent his only son to die. Or that he was incarnated in Jesus. Cause that's what Christians say. I never could get to the new testament because of the nonsense and cruelty of the old one.
This "woman" may God have mercy on her soul,She is either (I am sure) of the devil, or possessed by the devil. She is not a human, she is Demon! Don't beleive thank it is funny? Go meet her, alone Lol You people are pitiful to let someone talk about God like that and Laugh. soon, you will not laugh!
@joelaine59 ...maybe you should learn some history...men wrote the bible, not a god...you probably think Jesus was a white man which is pretty impossible since he was a Jew from the Middle East...do you know that Christianity is responsible for war, rape, torture, and murder all throughout time and right now?why do you worship a MAN from a country that isnt yours? Demons exist, and they've got you, right now
Of course, Cain didn't have to have sex with Eve, his mother, to have children. He could've had sex with his sister. The Bible places women so low, that Eve probably had a slew of daughters, but the author(s) of Genesis didn't bother to mention it. Nothing like basing your morals on the writings of bronze-aged shepherds!
@Xenophile665 I'm pretty sure it does say Eve had plenty more children. In the beginning, God did allow brothers and sisters to reproduce together. It may seem gross to us now, but those kids only had each other and the Earth wasn't going to populate itself.
@mowingthefrontlawn True, but it does not say it until after Cain has gone to Nod (Gen 5:4).
Also, wasn't Cain a murderer? Why wasn't he executed? (Gen 9:6) After all, the penalty for masturbation was death, (Gen 38:3-10) and the penalty for looking back was death. (Gen 19:26) A perfect god should have a perfect system of rewards and penalties.
@mowingthefrontlawn Actually, the controversy still brews about "Onanism." (Gen. 38:9-10) What he did displeased god, but the verses don't make it clear. He either masturbated, or withdrew prematurely.
As for Gen 19:26, looking back or vacillation, still seems like a punishment far beyond the crime.
@mowingthefrontlawn MY favorite candidate for the wife of Cain is Lilith, the purported "mother of all vampires." Now there was a woman who knew how to party! ;-)
@Xenophile665 She would have been one of my top choices, too. Nothing says wild and sexy like a vampire chick, although the whole blood drinking fetish might have put me off a little.
@mowingthefrontlawn Then the choice for you would be the "spiritual" vampire. No messy hemoglobin all over the place, since it was also said that Lilith was the mother of all succubi and incubi as well.
Wow -- Deven, you're my new heroine. This stuff is even more effective than Pat Condell's, b/c as you know the best way to discredit an idea is to ridicule it. The quick cuts, animated clip art, and hilarious FOX-style false crawls seem to be the way this generation absorbs information. Betty's sanctimonious classism is also a hoot. Let's hope the intended audience is led to throw aside all that Jesus crap and all other religious notions in favor of science, reason, and fact. Attagirl, dahlink!
I dunno, it just seems mean-spirited. She basically implies all Christians are morons who don't understand their own faith within the first 15 seconds.
I totally get what the video is trying to do, and I'm not opposed to the government staying out of people's life decisions. I just ask that if you have a debate with a Christian, try to come to the table with the idea that the person sitting across from you is just as rational and intelligent as you are. That at least will be a good start.
well that gets hard to done considering so many theists come to the table with notions about atheists.
When I told people that I had known for a long time that I was an atheist, many of the first questions were whither or not I was still a moral person.
So both sides do it, and it will probably never stop.
Wow. I am definitely subbing! Why haven't I seen any of her videos before?

@jeskai3ai3e If its not a rulebook, then who gets to dictate what in it is a rule and what isn't, then?
Everything in the Bible is equally valid if god did not specifically make it a rule. That leaves only about The Ten Commandments.
And just because a certain thing isn't supported or is seen as immoral according to scripture, doesn't mean there's a rule against it.

@Xenophile665 Right, and Cain got together with his sister (it says that everyone at this point is a descendant from Adam) in Nod and had a family.
I'm not sure How is masturbation mentioned in Gen 38? I'm interested, since I've never been able to find masturbation mentioned in the Bib.
That's one way to look at Gen 19 : 26. Most people see it, more specifically, as punishment for vacillation.
Thanks for showing me these passages. I learned some new things.
