Absolutely Awsome! I have endorsed this song for many years! Other then lindsay Buckinghams stuff this is tops!If youre into great purism...there are 2 choices...lindsay and eric woot!
I watch/play most of EC's video's on here and love everyone of them. BUT, I keep coming back time and again to "River of tears". There are probably song's by other people that would do the same, if I heard them, but,
this song just really get's to me. Maybe it always will, I seem to have alot of company!!
Friend, you are absolutely right to give out to the drummer. You probably know that it is Steve Gadd. You're also right about his age, he is 63. Those in the know reckon he's right up there with the best of them. Lucky us I say.
This is off the "One More Car, One More rider" album.
I have this on DVD and CD, it's that good!!...the whole concert is awesome, a must see for any music fan. I also discovered Billy Preston by watching this (the one that sings, Will It Go Round In Circrles)...I also love blues piano and organ.
Another recommended listen is Eric Clapton Unplugged...he plays with Chuck Leavelle a great blues pianist...who has a fking AWESOME solo!!!
After Midnight, Hey Hey, Motherless Child, Bell Bottom Blues, Layla, Badge, Crossroads, Let it Grow, Bad Love, Breaking Point, Broken Hearted, Back Home, Anything for your Love, Tears in Heaven, Lonely Stranger....
That's all off the top of my head. I tried to keep out covers and remakes. If that were the case, than elshaub is right; there are thousands. And they're all great.
Oh, by the way, look up 24 nights running on faith. The BEST version ever!
first, i'd appreciate if someone could help me with the guitar effect which clapton uses in this song second, to the guy who asked for clapton's best bellads: this one my father's eyes circus (unplugged version) old love (studio version sucks, listen to 24 nights version) running on faith wonderful tonight give me strenght please be with me like a prisioner pfff could name 1000 more every frase eric plays on his guitar is a mixture of pasion, anger, love, life...
Sorry to be maudlin but my dad passed away 13 years ago(though in some ways it seems like yesterday) & to me, this has always been such an expressive song so I'm glad I found this post tonight.
norcalnerd08, I totally appreciate your comment - you're right, this song says so much.
He has the ability to make a song , that sounds blues & soul but may not be regarded as either..maybe soul-ful blues would be the best decription. The studio version where he sings "i wish i could hold you, one more time to ease the pain"..is a about authentic soul-ful singing you will ever hear. Nothing on the radio can top the heart soul & real emotion of this song and many that he does.
I was listening to River of Tears when I got the phone call that my father had passed away. As if this gorgeous song weren't sad enough on its own, I have that memory attached to it. I cry every time I hear it. I think this is the most poignant, soulful song Clapton, or any other artist, has EVER written. So much beauty can come from pain and this song is evidence of that.
Wow! Sublime song + superlative performance by Eric, Preston & Gadd makes a literal "River of Tears" on my face. But I never watch this in public - who wants to see a middle-aged guy crying into his iPod? Thanks for posting judasbmx.
This song makes me cry and I am a grown man, married, and with kids lol. I can feel his pain whne he plays this, and it reminds me of some past loves.
Not only EC, but the combination of fine, fine musicians are making this song one of his best...steven gadd is absolutely unbelieveable here, and that beautiful grinding organsolo by the late billy preston...by far his best band ever (expect for maybe the cream...)
EC sold the Crash graffiti strat that he played at the first Crossroads Guitar Festival in the 2004 auction, not the one he's playing in this video. However, on the 2006-07 tour, his primary guitar was a dark gray strat.
Clapton's brain is hardwired from his soul to his guitar. What is now amazing is what he has done with his voice...the same maturity from raw talent to godliness. Clapton is God.
I agree. There are people that learn to play the guitar, and there are people, like clapton, that study the it. He really has "hardwired his soul to his guitar."
dude, that solo sent shivers up and down my spine. THAT is what a solo is supposed to be, pure raw emotion where you say'fuck theory, fuck note targeting, fuck the crowd, fuck it all...and watch me fly!'
WOW! Probably the best example of a well meshed road band - Steve Gadd, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton. Simply spectacular performances by all three, who were all over 60 when this was recorded in LA. Amazing!

他們在享受音樂而不是在表演(6:13)(7:07)
They are enjoying the music, not the performance(6:13)(7:07)
或者說本作品的感染程度連表演者自身都難以抵抗
or rather the level of influence from this work, is irresistable to the performers themselves.

Last comment I promise!
I had to put some focus on the drummer. During this whole concert the band never stopped playing (never took a break)
This guy has to be at least 60 years old...he never misses a beat even when he's drenched in sweat towards the end of the concert.
