Firstly one of my fav bands for the last nearly 40 years. 2nd This is one of my fav songs by them - tho they manage to create so many classics so many to choose from but this really is heavenly
3rd the gilbert and george/good guy bad guy personas - ron makes russel seem sweeter by what he does - performance art - deadpan - besides how else can a keyboard player entertain - other than the cheesy smile - like the shopping mall players - or the sex face - pleeeeease....guitars only
4th this clip wow - was this released as a single? why redo it - i mean its great and i would love to own it - just curios why the revamp - who's idea and why?
the whole thing is brilliant. The allegory of the angel/christ/god and the devil and redemption is so simple yet so brilliant and also very fritz lang....hats off guys you really outdid yourselves.
I believe this a recent remake of the 1979 original. SPARKS AGE LIKE GODS - almost imperceptably. Most of us around the world have been listening to them for 40 years (!!!!!!!) - it seems like yesterday, actually. Isn't that an attribute of Gods?
I'm not so sure about that. I mean the pet shop boys sound very british and a few other bands as well, so the argument could be made that some bands change their accents deliberately. It's like I've heard some country singers sing some songs with twangy southern accents and then sing a song and sound completely normal.

This version is on their PLAGARISM album. It's re-recordings of some of their best songs. The cover has their heads pasted on two muscle men. Great stuff!!
On the original 12" full length mix from 1979 the mix has two different sections first a slow hypnotic dance section featuring this version..then halfway through it goes off into the frantic disco mix that is more well known..
I've got a red vinyl version which has three parts. It about 7.30 minutes long. Totally amazing and my favourite disco song of all time. I saw them play the whole version recently and it was full-on, note for note.
"In cars it becomes a hit
In your homes it becomes advertisements
And in the streets it becomes the children singing..."
Does anyone know where can I get this version of the song with Russell's vocal? The Plagiarism album version has Jimmy Somerville, but Russell sounds much better in this video
@jp235 This version was released for anniversary of original song, distribution of the single CD was pretty limited - I bought my copy on a successful auction website - it was the only way to get an unplayed copy. Why did I want it so badly? The video came as a bonus on the same disc!! Great video - very 'Constantine' ... Good hunting.
shot on location, where did they get all the money to make this , i like the part where the ferris wheel look as if it is going to fly up into the sky ..commment
I reckon this is one of Sparks' best videos, alongside "Lighten Up Morrissey" and "I Predict"... love the fight between the brothers - they should do that more often, though obv Ron should win. Anyone with a Hitler moustache is obv good at being evil.
I didnt like this version to begin with, but now it has grown on me in a BIG way.
I am amazed in a very pleasant way. I love this and the original versions very much but in different ways if that makes any sence. In my opinion this slower version is more suited to the words. The original will always be amazing! Thanks very much for posting :)
I didn't realise this had been rereleased. I have the original 12" single somewhere and this is the start bit (or very like it). I think it was in pink vinyl.
Sparks are a unique group. Ron's deliberate strangeness is fascinating. Mind you, I prefe the original mix of this song apart from the overlong intro.
This is from 1997 (I think) from the album "Plagiarism" where Sparks reinterpreted many of their old songs. The original, Moroder produced epic came out in 1979.
there are 2 filmclips for this, excellent. ahh but this is a diff version but better clip.

I agree with fovea29 - this is an absolutely amazing video!
I always get a bit emotional when I watch it. I saw this video a week before my good friend Michael had a heart attack and passed away in August 2007.
He was a good handsome man and he was only 40. I'd like to think he is now in a better place.
