Great classic hit, that will always stand the test of "time"! No more Kodacrome or Kodak cameras, done in by Japanese technology what a shame ! For point & shoot Cannon rocks, for the pro go with Nikon ...
LOL Utah's Kodachrome Sate Park is actually near a small town called Cannonville LOL! Another photography reference? LOL I doubt it but still kind of cool! Kodachrome's mailing address is actually in Cannonville, Utah.
This song reminds me of Utah's amazing Kodachrome State park. I'm so lucky to live only about 2 hours from it. It is amazing, "it gives those nice, bright colors, gives us the greens of summers, makes you think all the world's a sunny day.." Describes the park perfectly in my opinion :)
And yes, it was named after the film, after a photographer photographed it using Kodachrome film back in the 50s or 60s something. Awesome!!!
@529376100 Awesome! Perhaps we should get together. I can create a photographic documentary of your downhill progression and create my own video. Wonder what song it would go best with?
ya know kodak just bout sued em for this,..... dont worry tho, Scorcese got even (thanx Martin !) And should any of you care enough, make the time to go see the large format Kodachromes of Edward Weston, when displayed properly backlit they are the best window to the past Ive ever seen
It's really weird. This song makes me think of high school, my time in the Boy Scouts, Catcher in the Rye, and On the Road. Really makes me feel good. It inspires me. Makes me want to go out and travel this country, taking photos the whole time.
Well Done ! It brought back memories of high school with the girl shots and the oranges... I see the brain of a high school male (nerd) hasn't changed. The best part is that all the football players were pumping gas after high school while I went into high tech :-) Revenge of the nerds at it's best. Have Fun All !!!
nice job! i have a 35mm nikon (film) and shoot only in b&w, but some of your (beautiful) shots here, have inspired me to maybe shoot color as well! (however, too bad kodachrome is no longer available!)
Lyrics more sapient than any of us realize. Kodachrome means a lot more than just a type of camera film, that much is sure. It was the beginning and end of an era, like the golden age of Hollywood, something lost and never, ever to be re-found. Our entire perspective has changed, and our memories, tied to those photographs, has changed as well. Not for the better , I fear.
wow... that picture at 2:14 is absolutely beautiful... there has never been a picture of trees that got to me as much as that one. lots of thanks to you sir!
My daughter uses a Canon and I use Nikon. I've passed on to her what I was told many years ago by my German instructor: Stars don't make a General and a camera does not make a photographer ;-}
I don;t know how many miles of Kodachrome went through my cameras until I turned Professional. Then I used Ektachrome or Ektacolor depending if the client wanted prints or transparencies. I had a colour processing machine for 35mm up to 10" x 8". I had Hasselblads, Canon and a Sinar Studio Camera with 4x5, 5x7 and 10x8 inch backs
The only problem with Kodachrome was having to send it to Kodak for processing. One Lab in Australia..
This is a much more complicated operation (the original K-11 Process required 28 different steps) than processing color films in which color dyes are already within each of the emulsion layers. But, the Kodachrome approach provides far greater color stability & this is also why Kodachrome is suited so well to archiving, providing a stable format maintaining it's integrity for 50+ years.
Having worked in a film processing lab I learned that Kodachrome is Kodachrome is basically a black-and-white film with three light sensitive layers, each of which is "filtered" to record magenta, cyan, or yellow "light". During film processing, the correct color dyes are introduced into the respective layers to produce the full-color positive image.
Thumbs up if you've sent your last rolls of Kodachrome to Dwayne's (the only existing Kodachrome processor) by the last day of development, December 30
Kodachrome makes most digital images look flat and fake. No matter how much you manipulate them, K just brought another dimension and drama to the photo.
Magazine pictures today are not the same, that quality film brought to the table especially Kodachrome is clearly lacking.
@andyt1313here are a few purists left out there who would say "no" however, there are many different ways to use and set a digital camera. Digital has clearly matched and exceeded the resolution capabilities of 35mm film, and I deeply appreciate the experiment freedom that digital unleashes. But I cannot imagine digital ever capturing the tones of a large well exposed B&W negative. but there are few given to that discipline.

@Kirkwood2020 Perhaps too few try, but I have not seen any images from a digital that are the same as a Kodachrome image. I believe you that 35mm resolution may be achieved in the best of digital cameras, but again I have not seen any with the resolution of K25 from a good tripod.
@thedogwrangler glad you like the video, but I never claimed the photos are from Kodachrome slides, the video was made while Kodachrome was still available.
I'm pretty sure Paul Simon used the word "Kodachrome" because it fit the song nicely. In my opinion the song plays tribute to the general love for photography no matter what film was used.
Taking pics is fun but if I had to choose I rather see life through my own peeps. I love the song, it's very moving and it brings you back. The words have meaning unlike other songs. When they invent a point and shoot camera, part computer part camera, maybe I will buy one. They are to darn complicated and none of my pics ever came out nice. I was always disapointed :(

The irony is that everyone thinks that this is a tribute to Kodachrome film when it was posted YEARS before Kodak announce it was not going to be producing Kodachrome film anymore.
My humble update: When I think back to all the crap I learned in grad school Its a wonder I can think at all And cause my excess education Hasnt helped me none I'm only left with writing on the wall ApplePhone Give us the nice bright colors Give us the rings of lovers Make us feel the wide wide worlds a single touch away I got Apple iPhone I love to surf the web all night Big Brother dont take my iPhone away

So...let me see if I understand this right.
You took advantage of the fact that a very popular slide film, which captured photos with beautiful colors, is disappearing and people all around the world are making tribute videos to showcase what Kodachrome was all about. Then you uploaded a video with pictures taken with a DIGITAL camera.
Then you titled it "Kodachrome" just to get more views.
This video is extremely misleading.
Have you ever even shot a roll of Kodachrome in your life?
Let me set you straight, first of all "Kodachrome" has always been one of my favorite songs and I had always thought of it as my theme song because of my love of photography since the early 1970's. I posted this video when youtube was new , almost 4 years ago and long before Kodak stopped producing Kodachrome film which in fact I have used often over the 35 years of my photographic experience and I also scan them in super quality and colors to bring them into the digital age.
Great classic hit, that will always stand the test of "time"! No more Kodacrome or Kodak cameras, done in by Japanese technology what a shame ! For point & shoot Cannon rocks, for the pro go with Nikon ...

Yup, it's true. Film is for REAL photography.
And the sad thing is that none of the pictures in this video were actually taken with Kodachrome film :(

Real photography is anything you create photographically, from pin-hole to astro photography, from dark room to Photoshop and I've done it all!

@YesMan46: I gotta agree withct9204. Real photography uses film. Photoshop is NOT photography.

So... were any of these photos shot on the film of the title song? Esp. if you claim to be using a Canon Powershot?

It's not the film, not the camera, it's the composition and the music...
