Vai's transition at 4:46 is just pure pwnage!! But Joe has more soul than any of the others....pure and simple. You can tell that Malmsteen certainly forced Joe to bring his A game. I really love M's little fills during this performance but in his solos it is obvious that M has trouble having any soulful melody in his playing. I know M can play melodically when the situation really calls for it, but here it is basically linear harmonic minor wankage which isn't really music but practice.

At this level of talent it comes down to what style you prefer. Personally I prefer Vai because he is more about the music then just shredding...after awhile shredding gets a little tired. Vie and Joe keep it balanced. Malmsteen though great..shreds just for the sake of Shredding.

And i just think that at around 6:12 Yngwie did something that Steve liked or Yngwie was a bit behind in the timing so he had to keep up fast so Steve doesn't lose to much time at his moment.. Steve can't play he's part until Yngwie is done with his like they practiced/planed the song before. They have their individual parts and same parts.

Otherwise Steve and Joe does solos while Yngwie fill in with his non stop playing in the background and step forward a few times when he likes to.. Joe shows great skill, Steve shares he's feeling of music and Yngwie brings madness.. Let others play music and Yngwie how far the limit of guitarplaying goes. End of story.

you know, speed and technicality are all nice and fun, but when you really listen to Joe's sound, you can't help but be moved. He will always be the best in my book... however, I do love vai and yngwei, i just think that Satriani is better. he has both speed and technicality in moderation, and a ton of great tone. but overall, ITS AMAZING!!!!!!!

To me, Satriani is by far the best player out of the three in terms of musicianship. I don't really listen to much shred (more of a blues-rock man), but I still enjoy Satch's music. He's able to play at super-sonic speeds but still make it sound ballsy and rockin'! :D
