PULP FICTION by Tarantino. The MISIRLOU playing i guitars is a tradition of people of all middle-eastern and mediteranian countries. Guitar solo and

Search in "The Tube "...Misirlou - Dick Dale - Pulp Fiction - will see the conection

  • saw him at my school!!!!!!

  • "Ukulule... do you play it motherfucker?"

  • @generale1234456 Seriously?! Is there a need for the offensive language? Allow Jake's cd - Peace , Love, Ukulele - set the standard. NOT angery vulgarities directed at other fans of the instrument. Thanks for listening.

  • @BoBuck dude. noticed the quotation marks? This song became quite popular through the movie "Pulp Fiction". Search on YouTube for the "English motherfucker, do you speak it?" scene and you will get my joke. Stop blaming people for something that they never did. I respect this guy for his skills and I'm not directing any vulgarities at other fans of the instrument. Peace!

  • very very very very very nice

  • @amerigali lol, not knowing where a song comes from and complaining about a very good interpretation of misirlou. i guess you r not a musician. first learn respect then learn an instrument. ah, almost forgot, misirlou is a greek song from 1927, but also "changed" by some jewish for weddings and also played by arabs. so how could dick dale, born 1937, be the first? anyway he also did a good job. will u ever?

  • here is an old version /watch?v=1Qd2Nb-oh4I

  • cuz there's only one stringed instrument worth playin' right?? dufus...you couldn't do this on any instrument...

  • He plays a mean guitar and owns several.

  • This is surreal

  • was that live? it looks like it was to me cuz of the background =/

  • hes is very good. i have a very basic ukulele and i cant imagine gettin this good.,..Thing is, does anyone notice his resemblance to a certain evil genius named Bill Gates? :D

  • whats with the awkward twitching?

  • putting emotions into the music. Diffrent people have diffrent ways of handling it, he just does it this way.

    besides, it looks funny :D

And he truly is amazing at playing (Y)

  • yeah ofcourse alyssamarie067;)

if you can play so well, why don't you have the balls to put your own video on youtube? ;)

  • haha really funny if this is jake i'm dead... This is James Hill and He's really good no matter what you think about Jake (even though Jakes awesome).

  • i play the uke and i think when jake played my guitar gently weeps it was the most beautiful uke piece i have ever heard

  • Yeh man, i could watch both of them play all freekin day.

    Awsome

  • ...? what do you mean he doesn't use his talents in the right way?

and uke is a pretty common name, lol

  • really fantastic!

  • THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! :D

  • i broke a g-string fingering a minor

  • wow, like i havent heard that before

  • That's some big ukulele =o

    Mine is tiny

  • Its a tenor

  • Nope thats his custom G-string tenor

  • Its definitly a custom G-string tenor.

  • anonbeliever is right.. he has his own signature model uke with g-string. they have pics of it on their site

  • @Anonbeleiver that also comes with a four-digit price tag.

  • is it possible to play this on guitar.......and to sound exactly like this?

  • well you can fret your guitar in the 5th fret and use the last 4 strings...

but i believe the top string...which is g would be a low g since ukulele has a high g

  • can u put up a video explaining that?

  • well you wanted to use your guitar right to play this song?

    well i can try haha

  • Actually, the open chord that James on his ukulele is A(low) D F# B. Canadian players learns ukulele in this chord. You would have to transpose the chords into G C E A in order to duplicate James' version of "Misirlou."

  • Actually... Capo in 7th Fret and u got it exactly... but it will never sound like a ukulele :D

  • 5th fret

  • sorry i only react now... for the canadian ukulele tuning its actually the 7th... LowA is what he plays...

  • "he played it very musical" is what Rachmaninov said to Horowitz about a pianist who played CHopin on the Radio.. what he meant was that the pianist bypassed all the technical difficulties by playing Chopin's music under a certain tempo.. perhaps because he wasn't good enough?

  • maybe you guys should shut up and go practice?

  • wow, this may sound gay, but would you play my ukulele that way?

    LOL

  • any one got the tab for this?

  • LOL

  • What u mean LOL? i was being serious.

  • james hill song or adaptation are more difficult than jakes. When dont know wich one is the best bacause they got 2 different style (classical for James Hill) Jake Shimabukuro (flamenco and a lot of different style)

  • "Let's Dance" is fun, but not as complex as "Flight of the Bumblebee," Super Mario Bros.," I'd say that if you ask both to play each other's music, Jake would have to take more time to learn James' chord combos. There are more people who can play Jake's music and less people who can play James' music which is the proof of different ability of playing the ukulele.

  • Sorry, but there's much more to music than complexity or physical ability. I hate to diss James, but Jake portrays emotion and beauty in the instrument that James just doesn't.

  • They have their own character and everyone has their preference for the many styles of music. It doesn't mean that one is better than the other. If complexity is the mark for preference, then more people who like classical more than hip-hop. It's clear that James is more skillful than Jake. This doesn't mean I like James more.

  • i have to agree with Ukeddd on this one tbh. Tho James is indeed a truly amazing player, and probably more technical, it's like saying that Yngwie malmsteen is better than Jimi Hendrix. yes, probably a better technical player, but overall, not quite as mindblowing..

  • From a player's point of view, I'd rather have the skill of James(JH). I recalled how Jake(JS) mentioned that he would rather play with emotion rather than speed. This was after JS met JH at a ukulele conference in Honolulu. JS may have met his match at the time. I'd say that bigger expression of music can occur through higher skills. I'm sure all artists can expand their horizon with more skills. I'd say JH (w/ his higher level) can match or even surpass JS's expression if JH plays JS's music.

  • Skill does not necesssarily imply emotion. obviously the more the skills develop the greater the palate for emotion, but just becuase someone is talented [even to such a high standard of JH], it can sound wooden and like a practice instead of a heartfelt expression of feeling.

  • amen

  • Can JS match the emotional qualities in JH's music?

  • welll, what you don't seem to understand, is that if JS has more expression, it's because he plays his own songs... (except for the beattles' ones)

  • I bet JH can play "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with equal, if not better, emotional intensity. After all, there are many players on You Tube who can imitate JS's version. I would challenge James to play the guitar solo that Eric Clapton played in the original song on his ukulele. James probably can sing the song as well. His vocal abilities, something that most people overlook, are pretty good. James also write and records his own music. His performance in You Tube has good emotional quality.

  • ok... but you know , Jake also writes his own songs, that's what i was talking about... i didn't know James did too... still, music is also about tastes, so if you think James puts more feeling in you, that's good for you... i prefer Jake, that doesn't mean i think he's better...

  • you know what?

    ...

    they're both really good

    thats it

    :)

    no argument

  • I don't think anyone can compare the two. There's just so much more to these players than what we hear on their albums or what we see during their performances. Who's to say that one is more expressive or technical than the other? They have different styles and techniques. I like both of these guys and it's really hard to choose one over the other.

  • omfg...i want to get his little finger...

  • I still say Jake shimabukuro is the best though.

  • Seriously guys, watch, "Let's Dance by Jake Shimabukuo" I'm sorry, this guy's amazing but Jake blows him away.

  • Seriously, James is a better technician. Jake is great with his emotional expressions, strumming speed and musical composition. James plays complex chords and difficult selection of jazz, classical and folk.

  • See the rest of my (hoorano) comments above. Roy Sakuma said at his Ukulele Festival in 2005 that James Hill is the best ukulele virtuoso in the world.

  • Needs to bulk

  • james hill G-String is about $2500 custom curly koa ukulele with a custom head..so yea...hope it helped..

  • Wonderful!

  • Now I know I'm not the only one who twitches while playing his stringed instrument.

  • I've heard this tune played well on a prima balalaika. This version however is rather impressive, and considering what it's being played on. This guy is good!

  • Este compita, si rifa!

  • It is no electric Ukulele it's the custom acoustic G-String Ukulele of James Hill. He's one of the best player of the world.

  • Wow, awesome. If you don't mind me asking, how much was that electric uke?

  • Check out Gstring Ukulele Co. got some close ups of James Hill's Uke. I don't know the cost but I would guess $2000.00+. Awesome entertainer.

  • James Hill not only is the best in Canada, but 1st or 2nd in the world no doubt !!! For his uke, it definately is $6,000...I know the dudes at g string good ppl and build the best ukes out there...

  • There is no doubt that James Hill is an awesome musician...lots of great ukulele musicians out there. Undiscovered talents. They all have different styles of playing...is all I can say. By the way...I knew the owner of Gstring Ukulele before he became a uke maker. Very nice guy...but I'm sure all the uke makers are good people.
