Ok I know all this health stuff people are saying but black people have been eating soulfood for centuries and not many died early because if it. More people stayed alive than those that died, so soulfood isn't as bad as they say. One thing that is different for us now then it was then is that they worked harder and walked farther than we do. They didn't ride a car all the time. So then need to quit acting like white people way of cooking so sooo much healthier!
@jazzyphay21 What does Kunta have to do with it? We've been in america over 3 centuries. We've been eating fried chicken for at least 2. Kunta was Alex Hailey's relative not all. Just because he couldn't cook doesn't mean the other couldn't. The food being called Soul food means what? It's a name and a style not a health meter.
@SuperJadeDragon I'm mentioned Kunta as a stand-in for our Ancestors. It wasn't literal (Duhrr!) It was called Soul Food bc they started as scraps and left-overs of what the Master and his family ate. The slaves just made whatever they could out of whatever the overseers (etc) gave them to KEEP THEM ALIVE, that is why it's called Soul Food. They ate it for survival. Now the fried chicken thing started in the South but Idk if it was during Slavery but who knows :(
Oh yeah and an after thought I use very low soduim chicken broth in my mac & cheese gives it a real creamy texture and adds flavor without all the other spices.
I love your channel and your topics, just another idea to cooking healthy greens, blackeyed peas, and cabbage is to add smoked turkey parts (necks, wings, etc.) instead of fat or bacon. I must admit MY BLACK IS EVERY WOMAN: beautiful, loyal, tenacious, honest, mother, daughter, wife, lover, nurturer, protector, provider, confident, bold, courageous, an adventuress.
@GhettoAerobix123 There is no point to eating vegetables if you're going to cook out all the vitamins. You might as well eat another piece of fried chicken. I don't cook my greens at all. I blend with fruit in the blender and eat them raw.
