  • The UFC used to be so much better. It was more RAW, I suppose. No time limit was a great thing, fighters didn't have to rush anything, there was no worry. The tournament format was awesome too. These guys were real warriors.

Ken Shamrock is a legend though. A master wrestler and submission expert.

  • i would of liked a prime match up of shamrock liddel or shamrock couture ken shamrock the man and some of his last losses were tooo tough guys rich franklin tito Kazushi Sakuraba and he mainstreem mma with ufc 37 and 40 and he had some success had an older age id just like too him get 2 or 3 more wins and retire a champ

  • he tried to give ken a wedgie

  • Ken smashed this guy's face in, LOL.

  • ken was hyped up on roids at the beggining well not only him but u can really tell from his body.

  • Wow! This is an epic example of Ken Shamrock. Thanks for making this video and posting it. Ken is one of the best ever!

  • I liked Ken Shamrcok back in the day...before he started throwing fights.

  • @slim0221 The only fights Ken ever fixed were early in his career in Pancrase...

  • @TGUNZ562 What about his phantom punch loss against buzz berry? his phantom punch loss to sakuraba in pride and his "im just gonna lay here and get punched in the face continuously until the ref stops this fight" loss against rich franklin? he's a disgrace

  • @slim0221 Both the Berry and Saku losses looked legit to me. As far as the Franklin fight, that is what it looks like when an old, washed-up legend like Ken Shamrock comes to fight a young lion like Franklin was at the time with no motivation other than collecting a paycheck. He was just overwhelmed. Shamrock is a legend, not a "disgrace".

  • @TGUNZ562 You're just a young kid who believes everything he sees and hears on tv. I've actually spoken to amatuer and pro fighters.. you don't even know what kind of shit goes on behind closed doors. I'll leave it at that.

  • @slim0221 You da man! Wow, you've "actually" spoken to amateur and professional fighters? My god, how is that even possible?!?!?!?

  • @kamaboko1 HAHA you think I'm one of those guy's who goes to fan expos.

  • Shamrock truly needed to retire I love shamrock but he just needed to pass the torch he lost to ortiz more than once I wish he wouldve won but he didnt. If he fought coutre in a ledgends match that could be both there retirement fight

  • ken is a fucking jesus freak now. he hosted some fights that I went to and thats all he talked about the whole time in the ring. It was like o shit here comes ken again to talk about the teachings of Christ. I never hated intermissions so much.

Still love him as a fighter. Wish he would have caved tito's face in.

  • ken became obsessed with beating royce just like mir is obsessed with beating lesnar today

  • He was a great fighter back then, but I still think Frank was better

  • @stonebridge999 Frank is the better striker, Ken is the better grappler. It's a toss-up.

  • I can't believe these fights were bare knuckle. Seems so dangerous looking back.

  • What does a fighter like Ken lose with age? Just reflexes and speed?

  • generally yes, but ken lost more than that - given injuries from pro-wrestlin AND nhb fighting dating back to the 80s

ken was a freak athlete in his day, but ppl like couture took care of themselves. ken didnt, and even if he did hes had a crazy life, hence decline

  • But Couture looked like shit too in his last few fights. No reverse aging solution

  • I lost respect for Ken Shamrock after watching this video. He quite at UFC 3 because he couldn't fight Gracie. Not very admirable.

  • Ken became obbsessed with royce to the point that it was him or death. He was to injured to fight but he wouold fight royce in a knife fight with his arms tied if he lost to The canadain do to gis injurys he would not fight royce.

    Obbsession is a dangerous thing

  • @jeremyraybrown So, stepping out of a tournament where you can possibly become 50 grand richer because the fight you came to fight isn't going to happen isn't admirable? Very admirable, in my opinion. Just like when he made Mezger bow out from the Pride GP because of the bullshit decision for Saku.

  • Ken Shamrock owned in the old school UFC He was and still is a LEGEND.

  • My favourite Shamrock fights are the first Severn fight and the Kimo fight. He won both of those fights because of submission and within a short period of time.

Although striking is important b/c it does soften up the opponent, I really believe if he had used more submission and less striking he would've been able to continue in the second UU, as well as UFC 3.

  • They gave Shamrock his own vanity pay per view in honor of him never winning a tournament

  • You will notice Ken had no problem before he went down or before got up. Cause there was no problem, he was setting up a nice picture of himself in pain so he didn't look the pussy when he did pull out. Frank learnt from the master lol.

  • Umm, in a fight with adrenaline, pain goes away.

  • We would all be lost without you, Thanks for telling us all about it mate.

I have fought enough to know about it.

And what you're effectively saying is, at that very second the fight stopped, what, all his adrenalin just disappeared and the limp came on , OMG lol, thats so funny.

We all have a body, we know how it works mate LMFAO.

  • Watch at 8:45 and you'll see him limping

  • leinenger has a strong guard

  • and then he lost all of it.

  • shamrock is an idiot. He could have went into the third fight with harold howard and easily destroyed him and earned 60,000$.

  • ya what a goof i mean he only made 6 million a year in the wwe he is truly a fool

  • Lol, so he gave up a lot of pride, to go and PLAY WWE. Wow, so much respect ROFL

  • Comment removed

  • @grandchancelor he didn´t gave up a lot of pride when he went to the WWF. Why is everyone bashing on pro wrestling, they are tough too. And if they would get the chance they could beat someone like Harold Howard too. Best example is Brock Lesnar.

  • They are still, no matter what way you look at at, playing games. Little boys games to be fair.

I mean Really ? i know 6 year old's that think it's boring, why would a grown man with a brain play pretend wrestling ffs ? For the money ? If so, you put money ahead of pride, because it's fake. Understand now ?

  • i hate wen people say that, brock didnt transfer from fake to real, he went from real to fake first. he was a real athlete before wwe he was a champion college wrestler.

  • so how many current ufc fighter would fight without gloves. i bet most wouldnt

  • because your knuckles are fucked after and their pro careers would last half as long?

  • also, have you ever been hit the 4oz gloves? it doesnt soften anything on your opponent, the only difference is as i said it keeps your knuckles and wrists from getting injured

  • All good points. It also helps avoid cuts. It doesn't prevent them, but it does help avoid them.

  • Who's the skinny due hosting with Ken? Looks like Goldie's kid.

  • Shamrock has an ok recored. 27-13. Thats pretty good. Look at Randy couture hes on 16-11 soon hes going to be 16-12. So Shamrock's record is up there. Yeah he lost to Royce , Tito twice. He had a draw with Royce once as well. He lost to Rich Franklin. Franklin has an amazing record though of 25-5. Shamrock isnt going to go down as the greatest but hes definetaly one of the best or at least very very good. Randy couture should of retired before he lost heaps of fights.

  • Shamrock actually retired in 96 with a rec of 23 - 5 - 2.

Out of the five losses, 2 were forced works when he was forced out of Pancrase, 1 was a bullshit split decision in Severn rematch. Ken basically won 23, went the distance in 3 superfights, and lost twice legitimately. Phenomenal, a true pioneer

  • @nyran125 Most of Couture's losses came earlier in his career, not later.

  • @nyran125

according to Wikipedia randy is 18-10

  • glamrock, the chap had a pair of balls, but no brains. He wouldnt learn bjj groundwork or lean from his mistakes.if he had very good bjj fundamentals hed have been much better. He did get alot better at striking over the years though.

  • Oh well Ken whooped Gracies ass in the superfight at UFC 5, it may have gone to the time limit draw but Ken Shamrock walked out of the ring unhurt and Royce walked out all fucked up.

  • yeah butt ken was walking around with 215 pounds and gracie 180 pounds.... so i think gracie did more then a good job on that on and most of his fights back in that they there where no weight classes

  • Yeah I miss the no weight classes. I liked when a underdog like Gracie took on a big giant and still won shows you that big and strong doesn't always win skill can win over size and strength.

  • wow, is that mike goldberg? lol

    good fight btw

  • screw your scource's cunt...........it's the world's dangerous man and it always has been! So don't delete my comment's from this one star piece of shit vid! Talk to u later Dooshie.

  • his nickname really was the rock for awhile. look up his fight against brian johnston and it'll tell u

  • UFC now is just a bunch of atheletes. In the begining you had to fight for 20mins fight no wieght classes less rules and to win the title you had to fight more than one fight a night! fights were different because there were no judges to impress and you had to try and no get damaged

  • Now every fighter is thinking on how to impress the judges wich, by the way, are rarely real fighters but are more like coach potatoes. Also, time limits and rules (especially standing fighters from the guard) are a huge modification of the reality of a fight. I understand the reaons for all the changes but I do not agree with them. MMA has become nothing but a sport; it doesn´t show what works and what don´t for a real fight anymore.

  • "it doesn´t show what works and what don´t for a real fight anymore. "

i think it does show in general even now. but its definitely further away from a real fight than before. the smallest changes have huge effects. for example, in pride where soccer kicks, knees and stomps were allowed, grappling and ground work was much more different. like the side control position was deadly because of knees to the head. now side control sucks because you can't do that. just 1 example.

  • That's correct, one of the biggest things was introducing standups and rounds, which gives striking and strikers more of a chance. If they still had no standups the fights would be more based around long ground battles and the superior grappler/submission guy would still be dominating completely.

  • Another big change was the weight classes; now a days the small one doesn´t has to fight bigger guys; and because of that they focus their training on more agresive techniques, but those will only work if applied against a physically similar oponent. Imagine Matt Hughes trying to power slam Brock Lesnar and fighting agresivelly... it just won´t work. The strategie HAS to be defense and counteratacking, but the fans don´t care about that, they want to see the KO and bloody fighters...

  • nowadays it would be very hard for a pure bjj lad with zero standup or wrestling like royce to beat anybody. If he cant take you down hes fucked and lads are gone very good at takedown defense .

  • I'm glad UFC isn't five minutes of solid dry-humping anymore.

  • look up your own info before being a cunt

ABC gave him the second nickname, he didnt use it until WWF and thereafter. Here, he was 'The Rock'

  • ^dumbass

  • haha you are right

  • did ken say that people wearing gui only know striking?

    cuz thats backwards..........

    i could be wrong tho

  • He did say that he made the mistake of assuming that they only had standing game, and not mat game. He had no previous understanding (prior to the Gracie fight) of those that wear gis and the things they learn in their training. It's not really backwards perse, but depending on the style, they learn both floor work and striking of all kinds. Some more one thing than the other.

  • Bjj was a little known art and when you saw people wearing gi you took for granted that they did karate or tkd.

  • Back then, Karate, Kenpo, Tae Kwon Do, etc. were really popular, and those styles usually were practiced with people in Gi's, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu were less popular. I think Ken Shamrock saw a man wearing a Gi (Gracie) and probably thought he was one of those practitioners of the striking arts which I mentioned, and he was in for a surprise.

  • One thing to keep in mind was that there was no weight-classes. A dude that weighed 170 could fight a dude that weighs 210 could fight a dude that weighs 600. Anf it happened haha. Hackney (210) and the sumo (600+). Hackney won.

  • It also happened with Royce and Akebono (i think that is his name I may be off). The former sumo wrestler who weighed over 500 lbs compared to gracies 170 ish. That was a amazing fight to see.

  • Ken could have been on the cover of muscle and fitness back then!

  • It would not have been a superfight.... it was just to shut the guy up. He didnt step up though

Ken vs Royce however, was between a 3x ufc tournament winner & the reigning king of pancrase & pancrase tournament winner

Thus a 'superfight' - there has been no real equivalent since with the UFC (US) champ facing the Asia (Panc, later Pride, Dream etc) champ

  • the superfight idea was actually between royce vs that kung fu guy but the kung fu guy dident wanna fight in the ufc and bla bla bla then ken was offered, and then it was 3x ufc champ vs king of pancrase.

  • ken is the best in the world

  • Tank Abbott vs Ken Shamrock

Let's Finish what was gonna be the finals in ufc ??idk But i would like to this shit ...

    Tank All The Way

  • Ken & Tank could have met 4 times.

    1) If Tank had beat Taktarov in the ufc6 final, he would have got a shot at kens Superfight title at ufc7. 1995

    2) Ken broke his hand at Ultimate Ultimate, he would have met tank in the semis. Then his contract expired. 1996

    3) They couldnt get in touch with tank for a ken fight at ufc48 - ken instead beat kimo by ko. 2004

    4) Both guys win at wargods to set up an april match, then ken fails a drug test

  • If If If If

If if was a fifth we'd all be drunk.

  • He is so full of shit. He was hurt and could not continue to the finals. Be honest Ken! Why would you not want to be crowned UFC Champion when you're just one win away? He hated tournaments, he just wanted Royce. But Royce was man enough to win 3 tournaments, Ken never even won one! Then the UFC gave in to the poster boy by giving him a rematch in UFC 5 and he did nothing to deserve it.

  • Firstly, his ufc tourney record is 4-1. He only ever lost to royce, and avenged it

Second, not only did he pretty much win this tourney (no1 else won twice) but he was king of pancrase, so it pitted ufc winner royce with a champ from japan

Appreciate him for what he did. He gave a lot to mma, as a fighter and the guy who started the 1st fight team and produced great fighters (frank, guy mezger, taktarov, bohlander, smith, coleman, etc)

  • Ken was definetely a pioneer and an overall good guy, but he was very overrated as a UFC fighter. Point is, he never won a tournament, he never even made it to a UFC final! Even Tank Abbott made it to 2 finals! That doesn't make him a winner of that tourney! Ken's tourney record is actually 3-1, compare that to Royce's tourney record of 11-0! Then they award Ken with a rematch w/Royce? Why? He didn't earn it. I'll tell you why, he was the UFC's poster boy. He was marketable. Period.

  • 4-1 actually

    W PSmith, L RGracie UFC1

    W Leininger W Mitchell UFC 3

    WBJohnston UFC UU96

He won a Pancrase tournament, and the rematch with Royce was billed as 'superfight' because ken was reigning king of pancrase, and royce had won 2 more tourneys IN KENS ABSENCE.

Royce went 11-1, Ken 4-1, but also 4-1 in superfights, and that 1 superfight loss was a bullshit decision.

Come on, show respect, he was a hell of a fighter and he had to leave mma at his peak, missing his prime in 97-00

  • Oh that's right, he did beat Johnston in the UU tourney, I almost forgot about that, yet ANOTHER tourney he couldn't finish.

But I was mainly adressing their records leading up to their rematch. Royce 11-0, Ken 3-1. Royce had almost 4 times the wins than Ken. How does that merit a rematch? Even Royce was asking what he did to deserve it. It was a slap in Royce's face after he fought his ass off beating multiple men in one night 3 TIMES and Ken didn't even come close. It was an insult.

  • And another thing, Ken was not 4-1 in Superfights. He had 2 wins 2 draws and 1 loss. He did not beat Royce or Oleg Taktarov. There was no decisive winner in those matches.

My point is that Ken did not even deserve a "Superfight" It was a made-up title. Lets just say that it was Kimo instead of Ken. Kimo never won a UFC but he gave Royce a tough fight so they put him in a rematch. Then he goes 2-2-1 in Superfights. Would you think Kimo was great? Of course not! It's the same thing.

  • ken was 4-1 in tournaments, and 4-1 in superfights, the 1 loss being a robbery decision

If you can watch ufc 5, and ufc 7, come back here and tell me ken did not win, then you do not deserve to post and spread your opinion. It was kens bad luck that they introduced time limits into the superfights, yet no judges. The result; two 'draws', ken got the better of royce, and dominated oleg, clear decision wins with judges, and judges are needed if there is a time limit

  • Honestly, I think it should have been Severn vs Royce in the very first Superfight, then the winner of that would face Ken. Severn gave Royce much more of a go in their fight than what Shamrock did. Its a shame Severn never got a rematch against Royce. There were bigger and better opponents that were gunning for Toyce, so he quit while he was ahead.

  • he didnt quit retard he went to pride

  • He RETIRED after UFC 5... he came out of retirement to fight in Pride because Sakuraba was beating all the Gracies and he had to avenge them. Otherwise he would have stayed retired. He knew his number was up.

  • that was after years of inactivity, after which he was totally ineffective anyway. The problem is to be at the top in mma today you have to be a natural athlete ,royce wasnt, and you need all ranges covered ,royce doesnt.

  • Anyone that could choke out Dan Severn is not overrated.

  • because he wanted to have revenge against royce gracie

  • Cool old school vid....

  • Ken went 2-0 at THE craziest and most unpredictable ufc tournament ever

Despite abstaining the final, ken remained the only fighter to win more than once at the event
