I have always been facinated by Phil's solo stuff. I love him and Don together but you never get to hear Phil take the lead. I'm not knocking Don here, that's just the way they do things. Buthere, you DO get to hear Phil by himself and he's fantastic! Thanx for posting. Happy "B" Day Phil.
I REMEMBER HEARING THIS SONG ON RADIO ONE (LATE 1982) LOVED IT THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT. UNFORTUNATELY IT ONLY MADE THE BOTTOM PART OF THE TOP 50 (IN THE UK) WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT IT WASNT A BIGGER HIT FOR PHIL.
how many artists have you ever heard with the harmony as smooth as the everly bros. and who sound as good now as they were 30 or so yrs ago,I don,t know of any.Have you ever notice when they sing live on stage their sound is as smooth as if it was on a recording,They,ll never be another duet like them,we had the pleasure of listening to the best,
Great song, great version, I know cos' I wrote it. The Everly Brothers were one of my earliest influences, so imagine how proud I was when years later I finally wrote a song for Phil!
I got him to sign a solo and an Everly's CD cover for me. There was this kind of tense moment when the bloody pen failed. But it passed quickly. Love this guy.
i think he sounds so like his brother Don in this song/video , or do i have bad hearing ? anyway, great song and cute performance by my favorite singer !
hi ya! sorry that was my reply. i forgot that i was on my partners page, i have a few bits of phil's stuff that i have the chordes tobut i have the sheet to this one i can also sort them for you. i have played the guitar that phil has here. this is the one that he gave to Don. (D' was playing it at the reunion concert) . i got my grubby paws on it backstage at oxford in 85 when i was doin some bizz with Don.#2 lovely bit of wood. i got hold of #24 for my self in 98.
Great song, written by Ian Gomm, who used to play in a group called Brinsley Schwarz with Nick Lowe. I also like the duet Phil did with Cliff Richard, 'She Means Nothing To Me'. Phil was the one with the high voice in the Everly Brothers, razor sharp! Don´s bariton and Phil´s tenor.
I remember this exact performance from Razz back in the 80's - in fact as soon as I saw that this song was on here I knew which programme it had to be from - brilliant.
Phil also wrote a sweet song that was taken to #14 by a darling, red headed child actor named Eddie Hodges,1960s. Titled "Girls, Girl, Girls"... also a major hit in France by Claude François.
after getting back together, which to me, phil walked right back in the same situation he walked out on 10, same song second verse, don's weird solos, his guitar still #1, did all the talking, tried to explain that they had never been friends. i think this where phil blinked. phil never would let any of his songs be sung by the everlys except browneyes. he said his songs did not measure up to don's standards. oooooooooh! i am so sick of don's standards!!!!!!
thank you i know he wrote when will i be loved, and with singing it with the everlies making it to #8 and then linda ronstadt making it to #1, he must have made a fortune. don wrote til i kissed you, although phil co-wrote songs with don but phil just didn't seem to want to take any credit, i quess for his own personal reasons. he is a real enigma about his songs. he wrote and his friend co-wrote some beautiful ones. thank you for the comment.
are there any more of phils that you have such as browneyes. i couldn't understand why don never meant for phil to be in the spotlight but after hearing some of phil's solos, i can almost see why. phil does awe inspiring things with his voice and his prescence. do you have any of these megasuggs. it would be a priviledge to hear. another comment
I am not the only one who knows the answer to your "spotlight" question. You answered it yourself... Don saw it, so did the song writers, the record labels & many others.. Phil had that something extra that could steal a song from Don. He could write as well & play the guitar as well as Don, but most people never knew it. Singing the lead should have been shared equally between them (like McCartney & Lennon). Most people didn't know how really good Phil was until they split.
Sigh! Phil is a rare talent, and was an absolute babe back then! Thanks for posting this, so the world can see his immense talent. Now, if I could only see a video of him and Cliff singing "She Means Nothing to Me!"
I love them both together or singularly forever but I admit it is easier to enjoy the solo years knowing they did eventually come back together. They did some good stuff alone but the best is together. Nobody can touch that harmony!
whoever put this video on, thank so much. i have listened to samplers on amazon with only phil singing. he has the grestest voice and i can't for the life of me figure out he was not allowed to sing by his self when they both were singing. he really put him self into a song physically as well as emotionally. thanks again, you've shown us a rare and great voice. look at him move.
Thanks mate. That is the guitar he gave Don as a present whent they first met after the split. Don used it at the Reunion Concert. Do you know if he ever performed "She means nothing to me" with Cliff live on TV??
never was performrd on tv by themas they did not do a vidio to it as at the time of recoding, did no think it would do much, how wrong!!! it was on top of the pops with some birds dancing to it/ as there was not enough time to get phil over for it....what a great shame
P.S. This should have been a hit here in the U.S.A.

Why the hell are the hand clappings all wrong? They should be on the second and fourth beat, not first and third (which is unfortunately common).

@Rekku9 You are right, but this was a kids TV program and the audience are only children after all.
