Being the longtime Sailor Moon fanboy I am, I watched every last episode of this thing.
And no kidding, the story is fantastic, dare I say, BETTER than the anime. It also had some nice music here and there.
But aside of that, the acting, "fight" choreography, costumes, dialog, special effects, and well, everything else, was just terrible. It was like they were given next to no money to work with on this thing.
It's a perfect example of why anime should never be made live-action. Ever.

Toei funds many many shows, and most of their money goes into long running shows like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc. PGSM had very little money, and it was made in 2003. Despite what you may think, most of the acting was actually pretty damn amazing. Only a few characters had issues, but in general, the 5 sailors all were great.
the only thing I do NOT like is how sailor venus has black/brown hair. that's my only complaint..but otherwise i've seen a few episodes and think it's amazing! :)
@DPhantomSoul12 Actually in this drama when she transforms her hair turns blonde. They just want it to be more realistic. It would be so weird if the actors were all wearing wigs even outside their senshi forms and running around Japan.
What i love with the japanese/asian adaptation movie is that they seem to not be afraid of the ridicule. It doesn't matter if it look "too corny" in real life because this "corny-ness" is what make the show famous.

@crazywildkid1 Well movie adaptions usually don't. A lot of the times it can't be done. Especially in live action where the whole point is the idea "what if it were real?" (which is done only so we can actually imagine ourselves living in our fantasies a little easier).
I think it'd be cool to do a Power Rangers, YuGiOh and Tokyo MewMew live action feature film (that's actually good) because I have a hard time picturing those ever happen or working if they did happen. XD Maybe I could do it.

@crazywildkid1 Personally I woulda preferred if they did a completely original story because anime/manga stories are usually not that great for the big screen in live action plus it only causes problem that require changes anyways. the only japanese live action adaption of a manga ive watched with good acting, camera effects and a decent buget is Liar Game. Sailor Moon does manage to crack me up though, animating hair and those terrible transformation sequences.
@mhollis1989 got right? America did a horrible job of SM. It's probably one of the most edited series I've ever seen. As far as the show looking cheap, they didn't have a massive budget, but the show itself was pretty decent.

@purplechickon I don't think it would be as real to the PGSM or to original Sailor Moon. One thing I know about dubs or redone of animes is that english dub changes everything.
The live action had its own charm. The actors were very good and the costumes were functional and I think pretty cool. I loved the new storyline and the emotion and dark themes.

probably, the people here who think the show looks bad haven't seen many Japanese tokusatsu. Maybe they do all look silly sometimes but thats kind of the point. Watch Kamen Rider/Super Sentai and you'll see what I mean.Its appropriate since Naoko Takeuchi got inspiration from tokusatsu for Sailormoon to begin with.I thought that while it was goofy at times, they handled it well and some of the effects looked good! The story is amazing, a really interesting mix of anime manga and its own ideas
So I've watched this series whole way through... but it was not because I really liked it. This falls into my "so bad I have to watch how much worse they can make it." Don't take me wrong, I like Sailor Moon, but the live action changed the story from the get-go. One thing I will say is my guilty pleasure from this is that I actually quite liked the music. In fact this openning song has something in common with Sailor Star Song... both are written by Naoko Takeuchi herself XD

For all those who want to know there is another "secret Act" following the rebirth of Usagi, the Senshi and Tuxedo Mask. It's on youtube somewhere. Just search PGSM secret act. Queen Serenity actually appears in that one. She's SO purty! :)

@purplechickon I don't think it would be as real to the PGSM or to original Sailor Moon. One thing I know about dubs or redone of animes is that english dub changes everything.

The live action had its own charm. The actors were very good and the costumes were functional and I think pretty cool. I loved the new storyline and the emotion and dark themes.

The live action was actually pretty good. I actually watched the whole thing twice..sure the effects and stuff are hilariously bad but that's part of the experience!

This show isn' t that bad, i hated it in the past when i had only seen some videos here on youtube, i was like: "what the hell is that shit?" O.O
Now i' m watching all episodes subbed and i have changed opinion. Ok the anime is ten thousand times better, i agree, but live action is good too. :)

probably, the people here who think the show looks bad haven't seen many Japanese tokusatsu. Maybe they do all look silly sometimes but thats kind of the point. Watch Kamen Rider/Super Sentai and you'll see what I mean.Its appropriate since Naoko Takeuchi got inspiration from tokusatsu for Sailormoon to begin with.I thought that while it was goofy at times, they handled it well and some of the effects looked good! The story is amazing, a really interesting mix of anime manga and its own ideas

So I've watched this series whole way through... but it was not because I really liked it. This falls into my "so bad I have to watch how much worse they can make it." Don't take me wrong, I like Sailor Moon, but the live action changed the story from the get-go. One thing I will say is my guilty pleasure from this is that I actually quite liked the music. In fact this openning song has something in common with Sailor Star Song... both are written by Naoko Takeuchi herself XD
