I wished they would have gone on and showed the courtroom scene. The judge asked,"What are you charged with?"The defendant said,"Stealing apples from a fruit stand."The judge declared,"30 days for impersonating an officer,"and socked the defendant in the head with a pillow!
Heavens to Pigmeat Martin! I remember when this phrase was hugely popular on the show & actually became popular all over the country for awhile. "Laugh In" was a VERY funny and ground breaking show. I fondly recall watching it with my siblings when I was a kid & early teen. THANKS for posting!
@JubalCalif i remember the joke when the man goes to court and says "Do you remember me your honor" the Judge says no who are you sir? The man replies-"I am the man who introduced you to your wife"-The judge says my wife! you introduced me to my wife- I sentence you to LIFE- ha ha
@HelmutVonSphincter Not this specific bit. Flip had a lot of funny characters in his stand-up appearances and during the run of his show, but that I remember his recurrent and most popular were (of course) the sassy Geraldine Jones, and the money-grubbing, very funny Reverend Leroy of The Church of What's Happening Now.
I remember the "here come de judge" fad in the late 60's. It was brief but funny. I watched "Laugh In" a lot back then. It was HUGELY popular during it's first couple of seasons. Very influential & groundbreaking show. THANKS for sharing this! Hope you have a VERY happy new year!
icanspitfire, It was called 'Laugh-In', one of my all time favorites, but this isn't the 'full-length' version of this ditty. I've only seen Sammy perform the full length version twice, but for some reason I can't locate the footage. Thanks for the video fnordcinco.
@jebeja Of all Laugh-In's guests, Sammy Davis Jr. was far and away my favorite and his "Here Come de Judge" routine (with snare drum in background) was the zany best. I'd give anything to see longer clips of it here! The only thing that comes close is where the "Judge" bit was used for a "Laugh-In Looks At the News" routine (The ladies of Laugh-In singing "What's the news across the nation" etc). I'm sure it's embedded in one of the posted 9 or 10 minute sampler clips.
@TheCatgirl6, Sammy was my favorite as well, and I still remember to this day there was a 'whole Here Comes The Judge' clip, and I intend to keep searching until I find it. When I do I will try my best to post it to YouTube.
Pigmeat Markham made a song out of it. Does anybody remember Bill Cosby having a comedy show. I'm not talking about the Cosby Show nor The Bill Cosby show where played a coach. He had a comedy show and Ocar DeGruy (Mad Dog) was on it.
fnordcinco, Thanks for the memories, would you happen to have the 'full length' version of this ditty with Sammy? He usually only did them once or twice on the show.
i recall my dad reciting that "here comes the judge" line...i never knew where it came from...he did the hand movements and all!!! I also learned it was part of a motown song...ty for u post

I guess I could techically say it here and then it would be funny. You know why? Because it would be true. Actually, I'll say this instead, seeing as it's more fitting: Epic Fail.
well, usually i would have some smart comment to respond with, but i got nothing. A good soldior knows when to serender....I serender...Good one dude!
I remember us all watching Laugh-In and everyone in the family (especially my parents) busting up at the Here Comes the Judge segments) Sammy Davis Jr was GREAT!!
amazingly, here comes the judge was the first recorded rap in history, and led to the creation of what rap as we know it today is. talk about butterfly effect.

Rubbish! The first recorded raps occurred in the 30's and 40's, and one of the leading proponents of the form was none other than Danny Kaye.
