Its a shame that most PCs sold do not include a OS install disc, I prefer where possible to have a completely clean slate. Then I can download my own software, generally freeware.
I reinstall operating systems all the time just to get rid of all the extra crap. Most of the time it's not even a virus slowing down peoples computers. When ever you download a new program it asks you if you want to do an "express" install. The "express install, most the time, adds on TOOL BARS and other unnecessary stuff. I saw this guys laptop that had so many tool bars that he had a two inch view of his web page.
No joke. I hate all that crap that gets piled into computers. It's almost sickening looking into a computer of someone that doesn't know what they are doing and haven't re-installed in years. I reformat for the same reason. About every 6 months like clockwork whether I think I need it or not.
... It's quicker to install a whole new operating system(Installing debian on my second box clocks in at just under 50 minutes) than it is to get online at first using some of those computers, ouch.
@Flybyhacker I know my Micafee is expired and it keeps on trying to get me to play for thier WEAK ASS program, I got Fix-It Utilities 7 Professional and PCTOOLS spyware doctor and they WORK and find infections Mcafee can't I also use the windows firewall and defender/security center.
Microsoft isn't putting bloatware on PC's. They own the OS...Windows. So technically, what they put on Windows is what comes with the OS. Just like Windows Movie Maker. That's not bloatware. That's part of the OS
Acer seem ideal. Not much other than Norton. Plus it means I get to wipe out all traces of symantec, a process I have grown to love over the years and years and years...
This video is misleading when showing the manufacturers installing 60-day trials of Office to PCs. HP does do the same thing as well, so don't know why that got a smiley. I bought this computer and Office 2003 60-day trial was included (HP Pavlion a706n)
This video is really great, though. Kudos to you guys on this video! This would definitely help out people on what brand to buy without getting bloatware while getting a good deal.
What a fabulous video. I'm saving it to my Favorites - not only to blog, but to watch when I buy my next machine. I'm grateful to the people who bought all those laptops so they could show us.
That is why i build my own pcs. No fuss no Bloat.

I think this is old, more bloatware is shoved onto the acer hardrive, plus the "ACER GAME CONSOL" which is an acer version of wild tangent
RandomAwe 3 years ago
even with all the "bloatware" hp is still amazing
they can last for years without problems

Apple has also included trials of Microsoft Office with their computers. I don't know if they still do it but my G4 Mac came with it.
