Is PDK transmission the same as automatic? I want to test drive a porsche 911 carrera s with the PDK transmission since i don't know how to drive manual... How are PDK and Automatic transmissions alike and different?
@xiilazyalex The PDK can be both. When i "D" u just go,and in "manual" YOU decide, and there is no clutch if that`s what u r dreading. The inner works of a PDK will hardly fit here but in short it always has the next gear ready. If u in 3rd,both 2nd and 4th is ready 2 go on ur command.Thats why it\s so fast.AND good.So go test a 911 PDK.There is nothing 2 be afraid of. A Golf GTI with PDK is actually faster 0-60 with a PDK bcoz u get perfect shifts every time.I hope u find ur perfect 911:-)Good luck
I love this car. I love the looks inside and out and, the hardware is great as well. I'd get one in either metallic black or this pearl white with either these wheels or the standard S wheels. But I'd definitely go for the easy and quick PDK with the paddle shifters on the wheel, none of this button bullshit.
I love it how the styling really only change very little year by year. The real change is in the chasis and under the hood. Which is where the biggest change should be.It's great too that Porsche adds new aliments and technologies to their cars more than most car manufacturers.
So the Porsche 911carrera s doesn't come with PDK as paddels, but only buttons? I know the new turbo is equipped with paddels, if you pay a little more.
i dont mind paddle shifted gearbox as long as companies keep offering manual too, the problem is when they stop offering traditional manual like ferrari with the new 458, they will only offer the double clutch gearbox (thats a shame because traditional ferrari open gate transmission is beautiful)
its a special gearbox porsche used to use during the times when they were racing its a very slik transmission wich alows u to change gears quickly without destrying momentum and throttle
Wish reporters would get facts straight. Its 385 and 345 repective for the 997's and its far from GT3 level. If youve driven both cars he would have known that the Gt3 is far superior.
would anybody out there actually buy the pdk over a proper manual? it really pisses me off that every now and then, companies literally proclaim that the manual will stop being produced. why? nothing is more satisfying than swapping cogs yourself.
I hope Porsche *never* changes the styling of the 911. It's the most unique and time-enduring style. It's instantly recognizable. It remains the only automobile whose styling appeal transcends generations.
It also allows them to focus less on styling and following trends and more on further perfecting the engineering. It also seems to be with the times despite being 45 or so years old as its small and aerodynamic.
@proteanview No worries here, I can imagine in the year 3021 there will be a version of the 911, although it may not have wheels. The Germans are ALWAYS seeking improving on perfection.
@proteanview That's... not really true. While of course Porsche's design is classic and iconic, they're definitely not the only game in town when it comes to doing things that way. The Jeep Wrangler is arguably just as iconic to the original as the 911 is. The Corvette, while not to the extent of those two, also has a lot of family heritage going back to the C3. I totally agree that the 911 should always keep being the 911, I think it's important to recognize other cars with strong heritage.
Why has Porsche chosen an acronym--PDK-- that is synonymous with one of the most repressive governments in the history of the world? I LOVE the new models and technology, but someone in marketing might want to brush up on 20th century atrocities and genocide in Cambodia...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Khmer Rouge, aka the Party of Democratic Kampuchea-PDK-this something Porsche marketing thinks is Revolutionary. "From April 1975 until January 1979 the PDK ruled Cambodia and compiled one of the worst records of human rights abuse in this century. Between one-seventh and one-eighth of the population died of exhaustion, disease, abuse, and execution."
That's what I want people to think about when they think about PORSCHE.
When someone gets is an automotive masterpiece and starting rabbiting on about the environment I get concerned. Some dick in a sweater gets in and talks about the environment and how much safer he feels...because the previous 911 was sooooo dangerous...this world is starting to feel like a Kurt Vonnegut novel...what a depressing video.
This guy has to get the facts right. Carrera S used to have 355, now has 385 hp. The normal Carrera had 320 hp and now has 345 hp. Don't believe all the facts you see on youtube ;)
i work for porsche, thsi guy doesent know what hes chatting about, ive completed countless road tests in these brand new PDK models, and they are probably, aside from the GT3RS, the best 911 ever made.
385hp for the Carrera S, 345hp the Carrera.. 380bhp/340bhp why can't this guy get anything right?

Hi coolerdude,
I completely agree with you manual transmission really is satisfying and i dont see them replacing it any time soon.
The only thing that would steer me towards Pdk is the launch control, the quicker 0-60 time and if it had paddles they possibly them.
I think later cars will get paddles instead of the buttons on the steering wheel.
