Aww man, so many memories. I remember that in MW2 31st Cent the Rifleman was the only mech with an alternate variant that allowed you to load up with Arrow IV missile launchers, a weapon that wasn't supposed to be available until GBL and Mercenaries. That weapon was INSANELY awesome. I also remember the mission where you had to take out the cryo-plasma generator. That mission was ridiculously hard, especially when trying to take out those four Summoners.

Oh man this game was the shit when I was 6...

Does anyone remember the name of the level where you had to destroy a core reactor and evacuate the area because of a critical meltdown? And if you went into the base as a Maddog the enemy wouldn't attack you until you destroyed the core because they thought you were in their clan? That was my favorite level :)

Would have been nice if you used image enhancement. It really does help in battle when you know how to use it to your advantage...

In Netmech I use it all the time, especially when all the 'mechs have appropriate camo and radar is often turned OFF.

Closest thing to good graphics for MW2 is the 3dFX versions. Some ways it looks better than MW3, because the canopy of every mech actually has a crude reflection of the skybox (which, in the 3dfx and titanium editions, have scrolling clouds and such.

For anyone who is looking, there was a community project a while ago that enabled MW2, Ghost Bear's Legacy and Mercenaries (all Titanium Edition) to run in Windows XP. You might be able to find the torrents if you do some looking around, not sure if it works in Vista...

good work strafing those enemy mechs, nice blind shooting with the LRMs too. i love how you pick the arms off then target the body, i usually take a leg off then stand behind them. very fluid gameplay, this was a good video

Yeah and the LRMs were actually strong in MW2.

In MW4 they are just pathetic, they do barely any damage on their own. In this mission the LRMs took an enemy Dire Wolf from yellow torso (lightly damaged) to completely destroyed!

Plus you actually had to have skill to win in MW2 or NetMech. In MW4 multiplayer, you get all these people doing nothing but hiding behind hills, then jumping out and killing you in 2 seconds with heavy gauss or plasma cannons. No skill involved.

No other mechwarrior games compare to this one.

There are a lot of features in MW2 that SHOULD'VE been carried over to the subsequent MW's.

For one, I've always thought the sound effect used for the LRM's (actually the same one was used for all the missile weapons) was the best one out of all the MW series. Later missile sound effects just didn't sell it. Also, the missile lock and inbound missile warnings were a little better too.

Although every game in the series had it's little contributions, I wish they'd taken more cues from MW2.

Oh, did you not know the trick with the missiles for going around obstacles? When you were going for that Mad Dog, you waited till you cleared the building to fire. You could have quickly moved the reticule all the way to the edge of the screen, and they would have homed in. The music plays as audio tracks on the CD (the disc is a combination audio/data CD), and it uses the direct hardware method that requires a wire going from your CD drive to your sound card. If your computer doesn't have this set up, you won't hear anything.

One easy solution would be to rip the music from the disc (or download it somewhere) and play it on your favorite media player in the background.

gh dot ffshrine dot org has the soundtracks for Ghost Bear's Legacy, Mercenaries, and the PSX game, but not the original DOS/Win95 disc.

All you need is a program that can rip audio tracks (like from ordinary audio CDs). A Google search for "rip audio cd" will find you what you need.

If you have the DOS version (many of the Windows 95 discs had both the Windows version and DOS version), you can play it through DosBox, like I did here. There are guides out there to help you set it up. :)
