Wow,she plays very well, for someone who only learned for two years!Keep up the good work!I like it the way she plays the 'sao yao',it's very nice, although her version is a little different from mine:)
you've only learned for 2 years? no wonder you're not very good..... technically you're adequate but musically... oh dear god. this is what happens when you don't learn from a good teacher -.-
I got to see this very instrument in Dallas, TX., just this past weekend (Sunday, July 12, 2010). I am astounded at the virtuosity of the instrument. I'm almost as amazed that some people here can find grounds to criticize the playing. While they know the style of the music being played and I don't, and while something this complex will always tend to hide its subtler elements if the complex elements are overdone, please don't be so elitist as to deny that this is a stellar accomplishment! :)
@rakkav Haha... I'm glad you enjoyed this instrument with deep appreciation. I am not a gu zheng player, but an all round musician, more focused on composition these days... and all I have to say regarding this is that everyone has their own interpretations and musicality, thus there will be unfounded criticism for even the best of the masters by someone who will insist their ways are best. :) They may be right or wrong, but the musician's musicality and interpretations never are.
Zheng takes a long time to profess. Notes executed clearly and show her confidence in playing this grade 7/8 song. Only learning this instrument for 2 years and have this good quality of playing, I say she's a natural.
yeahs i agree...I don't really like how some guzheng players incorporate so much saoyao into this song...then the original melody cant be heard...and while this should be a fast song, I really hate it when some guzheng players would speed up the tempo just to show their skills and in the process, destroy the whole melody of the song. And then when it's time to showcase the slower and more peaceful part of the song...well it just destroys the whole feel of the song for me.
amazing 2 years of learning can play this song... what more she remember the whole piece.... may be i should really buck up on my practice. it has been 2 years i learned but i got problem with yiu lang he piece :P
Good, but the 扫药 part, the 扫is stronger than the playing itself, which is not good, for we cant really hear the main notes. On average, it is 5 star!!! Who disagree?
I've seen some other versions of Zhang Tai Feng and I haven't found yet a better version than this one...
It's simply Excelent^^ I was speechless when I started to see AND hear the superspeed notes, and the musik itself is like a story, I kan really imagine a fight with a Typhoon with this song... and the expression on this girl's face while playing is something really astonishing...
You know, based on visual, it seems there are less strings on the Japanese Koto, but otherwise I am not sure if the tuning is different. You could probably Google that info up. If it was tuned the same, I'd pretty much say it's technically the same instrument with a different number of strings.
well played.. but i think ur movements r a bit too much/big..I do like the emotions of this song alot..It requires alot of energy to play this song, the 3rd part..
i play this song way different than u do..but its nice!
the sao yao could be a whole lot clearer, but props on the dian tan. however, i noticed she replaced the harder dian tan section at 2:56 with simple yao zhi. the slow section could be much prettier.
Amazing!! I have a swedish zither and one day I hope I sound as amazing as her! LOL Although I think the instrument she is playing is much more beautiful sounding :) Awesome job!
not bad for 2 years. however, this is the first time ive ever seen a guzheng musician look up at the camera - the musician is supposed to be fully engaged in the emotions and feelings of the piece and therefore NOT be looking at the camera. youre presenting the instrument through your music; youre not modeling it.
Um, you just need to play it slower, miss. I know you should because my teacher wrote that song. Just work on the speed, but great job :) i play that song too
well maybe she did but i sort of find it hard to believe. i'm not doubting your teacher's talents...but if this is her work, she must be pretty well-known. good for you to have such a talented teacher :] i'm just saying that in order for guzheng pieces to spread around, the creator of that piece has to very skilled.
your teacher is wang chang yuan? for my IB history class we had a 60's party and i chose to be her O_O. it was just so i could play this at the party coz its awesome.
song piece, whichever. Plus, she's not a pro, she started not too long ago from knowing nothing much about the instrument at all. If you're referring to description, I'm saying I only see pros play better, I didn't say she's a pro.
I don't know enough about this instrument to criticize, but it does seem odd that she looks at the camera. Then again, #1 audition video. #2 instrument I don't play.
Give her some more time. I'm willing to bet she'll surpass a lot of expectations in the long run.

The Tune is supposed to express anger. The begining sounds happy, but it is expressing the power of the composer's anger. Am I right?:)

u can't even hear the main melody, the saoyao part is meant to be a ratio of 4:6, not 8:6 as here is. i guess oter than that, it's really good.

the koto has 13 strings...the guzheng has 21 now and is older than the koto...its tuned in pentatonic usually...not sure about koto
