It was said according to Harmonix that this has been in the works since rock band 1 and also rock band beatles was orginally supposed to be the first rock band game to be made. They also had some assistance from Dhani Harrison to complete this and he also stated he's a huge guitar hero fan.

There are a few promotional clips that have been released. Revolution, Birthday, Ticket to Ride and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club/With a Little Help From My Friends.

They're official and not boots, since they removed the highways. And, all you youtube if you care to check them out.
