cool video thanks for sharing... i was a vol ff here in colorado and i grew up on LI NY i remember the vol fd running blues with no sirens. i have an extra whelen red strobe if anyone on your dept is needing a light. also im a storm chaser and loved the storm.
That is definately upstate right? Im from long island and here its no sirens, all blues, one dash light(no one obeys it) and have to go to station. You are lucky they let you run sirens. I wanna move off the island anyway. To many rich stuck up snobs and careless hs girls in there mercedes texting... What town is that? Its so rural (in a good way)
@scruffythewild Yea, I am way up north in the Adirondacks. The only reason why I am allowed to run red lights and sirens in cause I am an assistant chief of my department. The only reason why we have them on our POVs is because our towns up here don't have the money to buy chiefs vehicles.
@ffjwhite oh, okay here to. My town is less than one square mile and so is the fire district. We dont even have a chiefs car for the main chief all povs with some strobes and a whelen siren. I think we are geting a tahoe though for our chiefs car soon
Thanks for clarifying that....I was a FF in Onondaga County from 03 to 04 and I was wondering how you had a siren when the state law was blue lights only lol. My dept had designated Chiefs' vehicles, but there were a few smaller departments in the county that didn't so they had to use POV's too.
Given the tint changed its appearance, that was still a great looking storm in this video. Great response, loved the country drive and the siren. You were hauling ass!
@8:10 anybody else see a possible wall cloud to the left after he clears the trees?? To my eyes it looks like its raining to the right indicating the downdraft area so the suspect wall cloud would be in the correct place (back edge of storm near updraft tower and rain free base). I know its tough to tell in the vid without any other info on the storm track, but hey, thats why i'm asking :D
nice driving. But here fire-fighters never respond with a POV to the scene. Obeying (almost) all traffic laws they go with their private car to the station, and then respond code 3 with the fire trucks
@CCWSig He was one of our oldest members. He has now since passed away. He was one of our fire police members. That is one of the reasons why he let me pass. besides its the law to allow a red light to go by.
@ffjwhite Its great to see the ol timers still going. Even if they are Fire Police, or Auxillary (AUX here brings food and water). Shame He passed on.
@granvilledrummer No we can go to the scene. Unlike LeSedici's comment we all have our PPE with us. It is a very common practice in our area. There arent enough room in trucks to respond with 5 guys. It will take more than 6 guys to put out a fire so IDK how LeSedici says that they cant respond to the scene for a fire. It take alot of manpower to put one out.
@ffjwhite Up here we carry all our PPE with us. I understand going out of the way to go to the scene instead of the station. I will not go to the scene unless it is on my way to the station
@MyCrazykid14 We only have one station and 3 trucks plus one Ambulance. Those Yellow trucks are from a neighboring department. They were apart of our Tanker Task Force, Seeing how they are only 3 miles from the scene we called them in.
Sooo, what's the point of POV's responding to the scene again? Unless of course, it's the officer in command's. I don't see how a pickup truck that has no fire suppression or rescue equipment and a firefighter without any PPE is safe, necessary, or practical. POV are absolutely not allowed to respond to the scene in my dept, same with neighboring depts also. Search firefighter SUV on Youtube, it'll help you get my point.
becuase here in NY blue lights are just a courtesy light. they have to obey all traffic laws. i am a red light and have the right of way. all line officers in NY have red lights
Oh ok. He looked like he was going pretty fast, it took you awhile to catch up. Oh ok, can the blues go faster than the speed limit? Doesnt seem like much traffic will be on that road :p
@Theroofable Yea the truck was going pretty quick. Yea blues have no right to brake any laws. Even tho most of the time cops will let them speed a little bit, but they cant blow and stop signs or pass cars unless they are letting them pass. You'd be surprised on how many cars go down that road. There is a school down the road just after I passed the other impala and all the school traffic goes down that road instead of going through town.
@Theroofable The guy in the white truck was the renter of the barn, as for the impala I passed him cause In NY Red lights have the right of way, even when its members responding to the call, beside that member always directs traffic.
@ffjwhite I asked because it seemed a long way to drive, also because I didn't really know if emergency vehicles are fitted with them. Do you know if the fire trucks are equipped with them?
@widowsmaiden1336 Actually the Fire happened at one end of town and I live at th other end. Just outside of or town limits. Depending on where the call is, it can take a little bit to get there. Most of the time we get calls on my end of town, so I am usually pretty quick. Most fire trucks dont have them cause they know their way around. I just have one cause I travel alot.
@widowsmaiden1336 Because its my job. When ever we get called out its our job to respond, and fires are usually a full membership turnout. Need I remind you that we are volunteer and only have to go if we want to. Usually Chiefs are required to make the majority of calls, however we do understand that most people have jobs.
@widowsmaiden1336 Not at all. Usually chiefs are the ones in Charge. Sometimes there will only be one chief around and sometimes there will be more. Depending on the call, its always good to have more than one chief there to even out the responsibilities.
@jeanphilippeg It is a Whelen HHS2200. Its brand new. I have since removed it. It does sound funny inside the car, however outside of it, it sounds like any other Whelen Siren.
@zootoo63 I thought you were talking about the siren. I took it out cause I needed a siren with more outputs. It only had 4 and I needed at least 6.
