  • this was a flexi freebie in the 70's with either the nme or melody maker or sounds ....

  • where did you get this?! Ive always wondered how it would sound without all the studio stuff and this is just great!

  • Not the original album version, but still a good listen.

  • Where did you get this version of the song?

  • What album is this from? I got some Compilation, this wasn't it. Nor is it on the original album....

  • And I always thought this was by Alien Sex Fiend - lol - just found out by accident today and I think this is cool

  • @Jupiterdance way not electronic enough.

  • o for awesome.psych punk

  • @stankler holy crap... NOW I KNOW WHERE WIRE GOT ITS INFLUENCES! This is all 154 and Chairs missingy!

  • @sizone so right!

  • yeah i thought this was diffrent....i like it faster

  • Proto-PostPunk?

  • I have the Lp and this is one weird version

  • Great Stuff!

  • This version of song was on Flexidisc given away with ZigZag magazine #88 in 1978. Recorded July 78.

  • First Post-Punk Band Ever

  • @EtieneyOssip ha is it possible to be post-punk before the existence of punk?

  • @grahamlaur Is simple, Garage = Punk, "PostGarage" = PostPunk

  • @grahamlaur Is simple, Garage = Punk, "PostGarage" = PostPunk

  • @grahamlaur Well the Velvet Underground & Nico came out in March 1967, so maybe not so much before punk if Parable of Arable land came out later.

  • @Epsilon15 Well... you can make the argument that VU and Nico is punk but I don't think that argument holds up too well. I just don't see what punk has to do with drones, violins, Eastern music, German chanteuses and 8-minute avant-noise jams. I usually think of Neu!'s "Hero" as the true birth of punk... most of what comes prior merely hints at it.

  • @grahamlaur What would you call the Stooges and MC5?

  • @friendoist proto punk, garage rock, or just hard rock.

  • KEEP LSD!!!

  • the sped-up divebombing version! Awesome version, way ahead of its time...

  • this is not the original version...

  • postpunk from 1967

  • 67 avant garage i love this

  • the other ones better

  • Great song !

  • Golly, on what album can we find this song version?

    Thanks, mate.

  • It's on some flexidisc 7" that came with a magazine around 1978 when Radar reissued some of the IA albums. I have it and it's 33rpm and contains Reverberation (I think?) by the 13th Floor Elevators, original version, plus this version of HFP.

Very cool new wave version, huh? Here, however, it plays a bit fast (you can hear the voice is a bit weird).

Dunno if it's on some other release?

  • Yes, this is a terrific version!! I wish it were available on CD; perhaps it is, or else "Songs WeTaughtGolly" had somehow converted the music from vinyl to Mp3...

At any rate, can someone please let me know if they find this version in Mp3 / CD format?

    Thanks!

  • @Sustya

This version is also on the sampler "Acid Dreams Volume two" from Gutter records (1998), maybe you'll find a copy or ask me.

  • cool voice !

  • love this and the cover by Alien Sex Fiend

  • Just what I needed on a Tuesday night :D

  • Gerald, your version is better but this is still good. It's my first listen to the original. Thanks for the post.

  • Actually this is not the usual version of this song. The better known is slower and more psychedelic.

  • @SongsWeTaughtGolly This version seems to attract more people. Anyway Red Krayola's Parable of Arable Land sounds more like noise-avant-garde. Psychedelia is not the first thing that pops in mind when you consider this album; I love your version and peace out bro:)

  • @DrLearyUSA What do you mean "psychedelia is not the first thing that pops in mind when you consider this album", I listened to Parable Of Arable Land a few days ago on LSD, and it's one of the most psychedelic albums "out there" for sure.

  • @SongsWeTaughtGolly yea...but I really like this version alot!! where do you find this one?

  • awesome !!

    love it :))

    thank you :))

  • Gerald you know how much I like this song. Looks like I'll have to try and cover this ! Hopefully I can do it justice ! :o)
