This was on the first LP I ever saw, bought in UK 1957. The other songs were: Blue Suede Shoes, Tutti Frutti, I got a Woman, I'm left you're Right She's Gone, Shake Rattle and Roll, I'm Counting on You, Mystery Train, One-sided Love Affair, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Money Honey - and I can't remember the last one. Funny thing, I never saw this exact album again. Probably my all time favourite....
Can anybody tell me if there is or was any singer who can sing this song better than HIS MAJESTY ???? I think NOT !!!! This voice is about the most perfect you may ever hear .
@lrd9999 True, though I think that should be Eddie Cochran sounded like the young Elvis as he mimicked Elvis' vocal style. :)
Anyway, I love his Sun Records stuff, no doubt it was his best, but I don't mind his "crooner" later years either. Have you heard Return to Sender, Devil in Disguise, If I Can Dream, In The Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, etc? IMO his voice was awesome and beautiful all around.
@faeriebility With the exception of "If I Can Dream", I concur. The surprising thing about Elvis is that even during his physical decline in the '70s, he could still make some great records. "Burning Love", "Promise Land" and "Way Down" come to mind.
i have always thought that the album i have this song on ... "elvis presley" ... was one of the last real elvis albums ... after that his manager turned him into a vegas act ... this song remains as haunting today as it was then ...
Vintage stuff.Excellent at the time and it doesn't diminish in quality with time and like a top quality wines actually improves over the years. You know what its going to sound like but you've just got to play again.
If it was'nt for the greedy Bastard Tom Parker, Elvis Presley would still be alive, signing him up constantly and most of all grabbing most of the shares in the music industry. Damn if Elvis had the guts to fire parker beforehand like what jerry lee lewis had done, he would still be here today. But past is the past, nothing we can do about it. On the bright side, because of Parker, Elvis has become the king of music.
@KingofRockandRoll511 I don't know. Elvis might have been able to fly just as far, if not farther, if he'd had someone else instead of Parker. For one thing, Elvis most certainly would have done better in the field he really wanted to break into - serious drama acting. But because of Parker, he wasted seven years making mediocre Hollywood musicals and songs ("Yoga Is As Yoga Does", UGH).
For me, the bright side is knowing Parker is probably one of the most hated managers in history.
This is great...haven't heard this tune in a looooong time. How many times over & over I played this as kid, dreaming of playing guitar and having all the chicks drool over me!....lol..... One of fav Elvis tunes.
"Crazy Man Crazy" recorded in 1953 by Bill Haley is the first recognized rockabilly track on Billboard. "Shake, Rattle and Roll" recorded in 1954 by Bill Haley is the first international rock and roll hit. Long Live Rock-a-Bill.
Woa. At 1:30 he looks super young! People always called him "son" and "boy" on TV and such, but I never realized how young he truly was. I guess to a 16 year old, 21 is kind of old. =)
This was the king of rock...not that guy who did schlock vegas shit. This is great great music and the reason ppl rose up and noticed....it wasn't just another white bread crooner.
@coyotesong but Elvis in vegas was good too his songs then were soulful n meaningful! Elvis was more matured in vegas so he couldn't turn ou these ealry rock n roll hits like he use to anymore and plus Elvis wanted to do something more matured for his mature audience because that's where he was at the time! @19chiefs57 the young Elvis is the real Elvis b4 they did wat they did to him in the army turning him into one of their cheap popular imitations. No one can quite imitate or impersonate the young Elvis right! The younger pre-army Elvis is the Truth! The younger pre-army Elvis forever! Bud
Further don't call Elvis the King he was not a king n he didn't like that silly title!
I love all the Elvis Sun stuff - but this may be my favorite. Elvis must have have considered it special, also, as it was a highlight of his '68 comeback special (and a relatively unknown song to many).
I've never understood how anyone could not like the Elvis of this period. But in listenning to these early gem Sun recordings, let's not forget Scotty Moore, DJ Fontana and Bill Black. The four of them together were one of the best bands ever.
@piemouth1 I really like the whole sound of this record. I think Scotty Moore's razor sharp blues fills really add to the overall effect. Without Elvis things would be a lot different in music. As great as Bill Haley was; it just wouldn't have been the same. Elvis made it possible for Buddy, Eddie, Chuck, the Everlys, etc. Ultimately, he made it possible for the Beatles too.
Utterly masterful! How can Elvis make this performance sound so easy to do? Not the cocky arrogance of youth but the sound of a man totally at ease within his skin. Good backing too from Scotty and Bill and the drummer (Bernero?)
@bleed4freedom better... but completely different fm the original 1955 studio recording. It sure sounded great at the time. this is live, Elvis 13 yrs older, live in a comback attempt. (I read that after show when he came back to dressing room, his father was there, and Elvis broke and cried. This "rockabilly" is my favorite of those songs
Probably one of the only men that ever existed that didn't need a six pack to have sex appeal. His voice and personality were enough, his looks were a plus :)
This was one of the great songs from the 50`s that Elvis himself loved so much and it was also part of his 1968 comeback tv special, and he continued to do it in concerts during the 70`s all the way till 1977......He did so many great versions over the years.....I love it.
It's a new Elvis tune for me too. And I Love it. . . I wish it had gotten more air time back in the day. But right now I'm glad to know it exists. Cuz, I've been dancing around my office all morning. Yep, I gotta work off those holiday cookies.
Even if Elvis' name had been John he would have still been famous. Elvis has talented that no one can compare. Elvis has a beautiful voice that is easy to listen to. Plus Elvis sings his song with so much emotion. Plus Elvis is a wonderful man. I love Elvis and everything about Elvis.
Elvis does deserve respect. Elvis had talent hat cane not be compared to anyone else. Elvis sang every type of music country to rock, etc. Elvis did not focus on just on type. Elvis was also a wonderful man inside. Elvis has a loving caring heart. Elvis loved his family, God and his country the USA. Elvis will not ever be forgotten. I love Elvis with all my heart.
Now ur just copying what im saying. A person of 2 ft tall !! Thats being a bit rediculous dont you think ? ! I see you believe in Leprahauns ! Typical !
You live in a sad little uneducated world of over imagination NretReductions !
You might be six foot tall but the fact that you keep saying that and making out that it gives you some kind of importance shows that you have the mind of a baby toad.
Hey dixielandrock person! I like your comments on this Elvis song. Trying to get to you is one of my fav's. I particularly love the version from the 68 come back - truely amazing and blows all my other heros of the day away - Beatles, Who etc
By the way I liked your clip of Bono arriving at a wedding! Bono is a gift from the next world.
Also huge U2 fan here well what else cud i be being Irish .... caught that clip totally by accident happened to be in Co. Clare heard he was attending wedding so took a chance ... wish i had better camera to catch it ...
Anyway Elvis is King everyone else trails in his shadow
I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Michael Jackson. Joe Jackson whipped those boys silly to perform. I think Billy Preston is/was a lot more talented at dancing, singing and performing- and he wasn't a friggin wierdo.
The strange thing i cant understand is this. Elvis very rarely gets air play on radio shows where as the others you mentioned do. Never would you hear a not so well known tune of Elvis" on radio like "Thinking About You" for example ever. So many amzing publicly unknown tunes but never ever get air play.
Elvis only ever seems to be played on anniversaries and its always the same ole tunes. I wonder why the greatest singer that ever lived gets no or very little recognition on radio.
Whenever I'm feeling a little blue, I just come on yt and start listening to Elvis tunes. Next thing you know I'm singing right along and feeling much better. Thanks again, Jackie!

Elvis was also a wonderful man inside. Elvis has a loving caring heart. Elvis loved his family, God and his country the USA. Elvis will not ever be forgotten. I love Elvis with all my heart.

You live in a sad little uneducated world of over imagination NretReductions !
You might be six foot tall but the fact that you keep saying that and making out that it gives you some kind of importance shows that you have the mind of a baby toad.
Crawl back under your rock slimy ass !

Elvis is the only legend who isn't overhyped (if that's even possible).
The same can't be said for Hendrix, the Beatles, Michael Jackson etc...
tabber87 2 years ago 4
I agree that he hasn't been over hyped. In fact so much so that its to our detriment as he deserves far more respect and acknowledgement.
I dont think The Beatles were over hyped as they also deserve lots of respect. Michael Jackson certainly was, in fact it makes me sick.
Long live The King - from all his British fans here in the UK.

@RobIreland : The same is true of the Everly Brothers. That's why I named my channel "Music I Don't hear on the Radio."
At least we are able to find a lot of them on youtube! I would give this one 5 stars, but ratings are disabled. I love the old 50's Elvis music.
