I have the remastered version of this album on CD. I can see why Frank decided to remaster it. For some reason the recording of this album sounds terrible.
@GlenSpCO oh, piss off. it's a youtube comment, not a letter to the man himself. note that each letter of my comment is lower-cased; i meant no disrespect.and as for the misspelling, i am so very sorry. i don't know how i can live with myself now
"Mod" or "Mods" was a youth sub-culture beginning in London in the early 60"s, out of same came "Go-Go" and "Groovy" etc (the Austin Power's stuff) then out of that came Disco (Saturday Night Fever). In America we started seeing Disco in the early 70's. There is about a decade between the two. Speaking from experience, I was mod and groovy from about 65-71 then from 72-78 I was Disco. Hope that helps. Cindy :)
Mods and Hippies were emerging at the same time, Mods were more middle class while Hippies were more anti-establishment, very fine line between the two and sometimes no line at all.
Here's one I can't find anywhere-- I heard it in the 90's on somebody else's collecftion--it was a really cute little thing where the band had to pledge not to reveal their weenies on stage. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Can't even remember the wortds except for "everywhere. . .everywhere" and how the band changes from reluctant mumblers to energetic firm voices when Frank throws a bit of put-down into it. I need to hear it! Help!
i tried figuring out the chord progression to this by ear, and i got Em, F#m, Em, F#m, Gm, Dmaj, Bm, Em, Dmaj... then back to the beginning. awesome tune :) this is a song where frank has used a simple chord progression which is nice to see since we all know he can make very complicated structures of some sort. I hope my info helped you people out there. FZ R.I.P
@vinzer72frie The version on Lumpy Gravy was the original. It was recorded prior to the release of Freak Out (acording to wiki 1961, but I've read other places that say 1962), yet that version was not included on any Zappa album until Lumpy Gravy.

this song puts me in a good mood. I'm pretty sure FZ is making fun of hippies, but the lyrics retain a positive image in my mind.

without a doubt, this song should be co-opted by american politicians for their 2012 campaigns regardless of orientation.

@geekorthodox9 I'd vote for the guy in the OTHER party if they had this as their song.

I have this on CD and it is doubled with Lumpy Gravy 1 and 2. But the songs sound way different. Are these songs taken from the original recordings?
floridacomedyfan 1 year ago
@floridacomedyfan The twofer CD has remixes of those two albums, with re-recorded drum and bass parts, and added digital reverb.
The remastered versions of those albums from 1995 has the original stereo mixes.
