Two lovely voices. nautilus1972 you may be a bit harsh with your Asian comment. I prefer to think that while keydet72 is closer to the mark lwt2008 is right on the money.
Sumi Jo sings brilliantly with a male such as Dmtri Hvorostovsky. Graham Melb Aus
Borodina does have a lovely voice, but does not get along well with others. It's a duet, not a solo! Sumi Jo with Ah-Kyung Lee is much more balanced and more beautiful to listen to, as a result.
Both Jo and Borodina have incredible voices, I wish they had focused more on blending together instead of trying to see who could sing the loudest. A tremendous waste of great talent and a beautiful duet.
I saw Borodina live last night in Prague. She has a wonderful voice and delivers marvelous performance but appears rather arrogant in between arias and when greeted by fans. I did not like her as a person at all. Here, she just does not complement to the music by refusing to keep in balance with Sumi Jo.
I feel that Borodina was outsinging her component. I do not remember this song being this out of portion in regard to lack of balance. Mostly due to oversinging. Also, did she not have time to memorize the piece. It looked somewhat awkward that she had her music in from of her the entire time. Poor performance due to lack of harmony and do to "out doing" your component.
@Nautilus1972 I have to agree Sumi Jo is amazing... but I dont know if she is the best... one of the best by far... it is hard for me to choose between her and Diana Damrau..... they are both OUTSTANDING and I like one more than the other depending on the song. They both never fail to impress me.
@lwt2008 you are wrong. borodina has abig voice and you can hear that she does sing soft in certain places according to her instrument. What did u want her to do? sing like a mouse.?
Borodina is lovely and has an impressively powerful voice; however, for this duet, I much prefer the performance with Sumi Jo and Ah-Kyung Lee. Their voices are simply much better balanced.
The duet on YouTube with Ah Kyung-Lee, seems to have more warmth, and is a more enjoyable performance because of that.
Perfect as always though, Sumi Jo.

I think that Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanča made it best, of course of what I had a chance to listen to

I cannot agree more: the duet with Ah-Kyung Lee is much better! And I dislike the music read from the book, it is very disturbing!

not a good blend. Sound more like two professionals singing, but no connection. Good performance though!

God blessed Sumi Jo with that beautiful voice. She looks so fragile , yet she has this strong voice that never fails her.
People say that music takes us closer to God. Well, these two are helping us do just that.

There is nothing more beautiful than a duet of two professionally trained voices like these.

I almost think I like this version of the duet better with Borodina than Lee (just personal preference)
and I'm in love with how Borodina is sight reading :]

Et près des cygnes aux ailes de neige
Allons cueillir le lotus bleu...
(And by the swans with their snowy wings, let's go and pick the blue lotus..)
When I hear a version of this duet with that note hold around 2:47, I am a swan with blue lotus around me.
Thank you for this video. The mezzo seems a little to wagnerian anyway.

Astute observation.
Wagnerian was a very good description of Borodina (who is powerful and lovely)
Sumi Jo has a finese to her interpretation of so many pieces. This is indeed what sets her apart.
