Nice horse but dont get carried away. This was a very very mediocre field for G1. Today he walked in the Mass Cap and again faced absolutely nothing of quality. Put this horse up against Curlin and he would not just be in very deep water, he would be in well over his head. Zito would be wise to run this horse in the BC Mile of dirt, because in the classic this horse will get buried. He's as nice horse but he is no monster. His best races are always run against moderate fields.
what's curlin's best beyer this year? 119? 120? wait, that's commentator. curlin's best this year is a 112! i mean, he does have a career best of 119. Commentator only has a 119, 120, 121, and 123 under his belt. don't get me wrong, curlin is the top horse, but you dont have to go knocking other horses for no good reason. commentator is an amazing horse for his age. you don't see many horses like him. nobody is saying he's the greatest horse in recent years, we all know ghostzapper was.
I think you would be better suited if you qualified your remarks. Commentator would not only hold his own against Curlin in a race at 1 1/8 miles, I think he would beat him! Make it 1 1/4 miles though, and Commentator would fade! You also have to remember that a part of the Beyer Speed figure, takes into account the strength of the field. Commentator had to run better against a lesser field to top 120, than Curlin did against a tougher field. Both great horses in their specialty!

I loved Commentator in this race. I was at the Spa and crushed the late double with him. He's my new fave horse!
