  • i wonder if she ever sang the "The Star-Spangled Banner" because she would have nailed it.

  • Amazing how good music like this can uplift your spirit : )

  • Como a MTV era boa

  • Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could sing like Karen Carpenter.!! No one could touch her unique voice, eloquent soft caressing tone.. She sang so personal, as if she was singing to only you, for only you. When she sang, her haunting angelic golden voice, just pierced straight through my very being. Karen sang with absolute innocence, from her heart, from such depth. 28 years later, and she still touches my life.

After all these years, like my Mother, I miss your presence. Rest in Peace Karen.

  • Thumbs up if @VictoriaJustice4all or Victoria Justice's tweet led you here...

  • You have good taste in music Victoria :)

  • wish I had of married her I always loved her. John Corbett~

  • LEGENDARY SONG + A LEGENDARY SINGER= LAST SONG SYNDROME FOR EVERYONE OF US WHO LOVE CARPENTERS!!!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  • She sings Nothing ever seems to fit

    Tragic

  • I am a trombone player and can remember playing this song as a solo in a concert in high school. It remains, and always will remain, as one of the high points of my life!

  • how wonderful is this that we can watch her now, she left this world too young,, I still think the is the best singer EVER....

  • Sad to look back and wonder if this is why she suffered so much, or was it just a brilliant glimpse of most of us, once in a while ... on this miserable rainy day in Minnesota, we miss you, and your beautiful voice, Karen.

  • JUST MAGIC IN THIS CRAZY WORLD...

  • i was raised on this music, she was stunning, beautiful and had a voice no 1 will ever match or beat in my lifetime,i have children now of my own, and they just cant believe how beautiful her voice was and ( they are in there late teens) i just hope that they will pass this on 2 their children, she was and will always be a timeless clasic, 30 plus yrs gone and still rememberd as if it was only yesterday, god bless karen xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • l love Carpenters' best song !! Forever Carpenters !!! from JAPAN

  • Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could sing like Karen Carpenter.!! No one could touch her unique Voice. Except the great Judy Garland, who both shared such similar experiences in life, and tragedy in life. Both disliked their looks very much.

When she sang, her haunting angelic golden voice, just pierced straight through my very being. Karen sang with absolute innocence, from her heart, from such depth.!!!

Karen and Richard made one of the Greatest Musical Groups ever to record Music.

  • Once upon a time, not too long ago, composers wrote songs with timeless melodies & words that spoke to the soul. Artists had voices suited for singing and harmonizing rather than rapping. Songs were compositions that had an introduction, body, and ending. Little did we know that it would all die.

  • I'm not a huge fan -- although I love this song and her voice -- but I'm more intrigued by the absolutely obvious signs of her growing illness. The head to toe garments that cover everything. Even her wig hides her forehead. Man, these two were anal to the point that no performance of Rainy Days was ever different for the next. They just wouldn't go outside their own box.

  • It would never work for Karen to live in Seattle. We have rainy days four or five months out of the year, and of course, Mondays 1/7th of the year. Rain = green. Love it.

  • it´s very good

  • the most perfect voice , xxxxxxxxx

  • First, my sincerest apologies to Richard, it's not david.

Second, Karen Carpenter, there are absolutely NO words that can describe the Awesome Dynamic Haunting Angelic voice of Karen. She sings it from her heart and the very being of her soul of innocence and purity, I mean, OMG, No One, and I mean No One, can sing like Karen Carpenter. Her haunting dynamic voice, just pierces straight through you, as you listen to her sing.

The world lost the greatest female talent, ever! Rest in Peace Karen.

  • @MrSonny119 Very well said! I agree totally!

  • @MrSonny119 Yeah right..sure shes great but dont make that overused line about "one and only"..not funny anymore..plenty of other singers that CAN and DO sing and/or make music just not so many in this particular style..

  • @Edzhjus ,

Well, I will state my opinion, as I see it, and believe it, so please don't tell me what I can say, and what I cannot say.

Don't take any offense, as this is is not meant to be, but If you wish to debate, or dispute my opinion, state so, and why, don't be condescending, or authoritative, to anyone in a public commenting forum, again, sir.

Now, you have a nice day, sir.. : )

  • @Edzhjus Go rim Susan Boyle, you slob.

  • Songs like this will live FOREVER! :) i love the CARPENTERS!!!!

  • The Carpenters, what else can I say.!!! My All-Time Favorite Great Songs.!!! I love them, Karen and David Carpenter, and my youth that it reminds me of, from 1969 - 1973.!!!

  • I bet if Karen had a dentist full of noicain in her jaws, a sock stuffed in her mouth, and the worst case of larengitis anyone could get, she would still sound like an angel from Heaven. Lord, what a talent.

  • if anyone can lower my high blood pressure with out medication it's her.

  • Thank you again so much for posting this.

  • I feel that wqay myself,,,,I aman old guy all of 59

  • @john61ish That's Not True, & You Know It, You Nub.

  • @john61ish

she didn't killed herself. she had a psychological disorder named anorexia nervosa which impedes yourself from eating because you think that you are fat but the real thing is that you were so thin and slowly dying of malnutrition.

  • @cocogelomango Her heart gave out. She passed due to a cardiac event, secondary to her eating disorder. If you are going to correct someone make sure your facts are right.

john61ish is not worth your time coco ... too many jerks like that online.

  • @LtPaddlesWebb , Now, Now, it doesn't do her memory any good fighting like this, But you have to admit her eating disorder didn't help matters, since binging and purgeing puts strain on the heart as well as other muscles in the stomach and the esophugas, er the throat muscles.

I saw the " Carpenters " Movie and I just cried and couldn't stop until I went dry. and could hardly breathe.

  • What a voice! What a talent...

  • Plasmore, I was singing along thinking the same thing. Wish Karen had been able to stay around and see what she meant to so many...

  • it IS a rainy day n a Monday all in one for me today. love this song n The Carpenters.

  • She was hot as she was. I think that she had a robust skeleture feature: No dieting would ever achieve the figure that her mind sought! Damn late 60's, & their Twiggy incinuation!

  • Although it has been long time since Karen was gone, she is living in my mind. How wonderful voice she was! Richard was olso great talent as a muscian. Carpenters were not successful without his ability!

  • 39 years have past since Karen has sang this song..and still..it remains timeless..her art was her voice and her heart..both which shall live on forever

  • as if she's dead !

  • This song is filled with so much emotion.

I get where she's coming from. It does feel like the only thing to do is "find the one who loves me."

It seems stupid, pointless even. I think thats what she was trying to say.

  • my favorite song by her!

  • Everything in The Carpenters amazes me, mainly Karen. She is very very beautiful and when she sings...waw... I lose my breath!

  • She did have love once .but i think that Richard advised his sister other wise

  • @britshop i always got the feeling she felt she had no control over her life and was that not part of the illness?

  • @94donnacone yes thats apart of the illness believe me i know.

  • @MsSherri13 its none of my bussiness , have you gone thru this?if so have you gotten better? are getting better? will you have to deal with it the rest of your life? i mean no disrespect and of course you dont have to respond .

  • @94donnacone no it's ok i don't mind. yes i went threw this and yes i've gotten better but i did it myself and with help from family. i may have to deal with it for the rest of my life because it's always in the back of my mind but i don't give into it. it's really ok you asked because i feel like if i hide it like i use to it will get to me and i will go back to doing it so i don't want to hide it any more. with the help from my family and karen's memory i will be fine.

  • She will live forever.....voice of an Angel

  • Karen was a shooting star who appeared in a bright blaze of light for a brief time and then she was gone. I hope I hear her voice in heaven.

  • 1000 times lovely!

  • beutiful lady with an incredible voice ! such a tragic loss !

  • Yes she was,Threr is no replacement

  • I try not to think about her demise, and to be honest I really only learnt about it from a movie I watched as a grasshopper. But from that point I was always intrigued with Karen and The Carpenters. A beautiful voice of high & low range, a real talent. But in listening more and more I've come to realise her death actually over shadowed Richard, who's ability to create, arrange & rearrange music is ultimately what made The Carpenters what they are today - A fine example of great music history!

  • lennon

  • decent lady

  • What a wonderful voice. I think the most wonderful female voice of the history of pop music. I could sit and hear her songs for hours.

  • I agree

  • Strange that 35+ years later I still know all the words to these songs....Dont ask me what I ate yesterday .....wont remember...

  • yeah me too

  • @PLASMOLE So true, lol...

  • I could listen to her forever. One of my favorite female voices. I feel sad she left us way too soon-I can only imagine how much more her voice would have developed through time.....

  • How nice it was back when female vocalists wore clothes on stage and acted demure.

  • @ignominni Inner Beauty

  • it's so sad that she was anerexic

  • Her hands were purple! Now no none is fessing up, We were robbed of a great voice!

  • Very nice. Such a wholesome voice. My favorite of all time. I love you Karen and thak you. I've listened to this 3 times now. No one will ever exist again able to carry a song like this. Absolutely amazing.

  • maude maggart u should try singing this song and see if you can do as good.karen carpenter:BRAVO!

  • Her voice is the voice of the angel.

    I am very much healed.

  • What a fantastic voice she had!

  • I was born in the 70's and I love Karen Carpenter I used to listen to her when I was younger and I knew I was destined to be a Carpenter as I married a lovely man with the surname lol

  • That is so sweet.

  • Karens voice is an element.

  • i abs love this song .

    means alot :S haha

  • Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton-John, Helen Reddy,,,,Those girls back in the 70's could actually SING! No stupid stage shows, lip-synching, or dancers! GAG! Thank you to those who post these clips from a lost era. Carpenter was one of the best from that time and one of America's greatest vocalists ever. Such a pure distinctive voice and brilliant phrasing. No one can sing a sad song like Karen.

  • Amazing voice. Probably the best ever.

  • So sad - too young to die.

  • She had such a beautiful voice and so much talent.

  • The Carpenters are one of my favorites from the 70s. I was looking at the Billboard Top 100 for 1971 - everything from Jethro Tull & Led Zeppelin to Perry Como & Andy Williams - pretty amazing.

  • Such a great musical duo...Karen's amazing voice epitomizes the mellow 70s sound, but still it is timeless in so many ways.

  • She had really an angel voice. God Bless her.

  • So many times I've lived this song. RIP Karen on what would have been your birthday.

  • I too have lived it 'no need to talk it out' - this song says it all

  • such a beautiful voice........she didn't realize what a truly beautiful person she

was.........God bless the beasts and the children and especially karen

  • Emotion + Communication= Soul..She had it!!

  • I Love this song, I love her, I know what it is all about. I just know she's fittin' in a lot better up in the clouds. Everyone that would watch this must be nice, and love Karen too. If so, check out my cool channel. You could find something cool, goodnight

  • All time classic!

  • I love the Carpenters. This and Close to You are my faves.

  • Beyond words to express what I feel when I hear this song. Karen can never be equalled.

  • she cant be equalled of coarse.. but i know some one that comes pretty damn close..trust me

  • huh?

  • she had anorexia and died from it. It is the dress

  • That's probably just all in your head

  • You can hear the sadness in all her songs no matter how hard she tries. As a victim of abuse and neglect you NEVER forget! I now work with children who have been abused and neglected and the damage that has been done to these innocent victims.

  • Karen we still love and miss you.

  • Haunting, sad and classic

  • If she only knew how much she is loved, you can see the very intense sadness in her beautiful eyes. She's in a class of one.

We love you Karen, and we miss you.

  • she is wonderful singer in the world.

  • Still My Favorite Singing Voice....

  • I mean as long as it was raining and hot

  • unless on the Monday it's really hot day then it would be

"rainy days and mondays always get me hot"

  • Rainy days and Mondays always get me wet

  • My favorite story about the two of them - they were set up to perform with an orchestra - the orchestra heard they were all Pop music and protested by not wearing their tuxedos.

At the end of the concert - the orchestra gave them a standing ovation! I wish I could remember which orchestra and when...TO THE BAT COMPUTER!!!

  • If only she's alive....

    i like her so much...

  • Raindy days are a good thing. Makes the crops grow. Keeps the fairways lush and green. Got have lil rain to make a rainbow. Mondays ... time to return to and pursue your passion. Rainy days and Mondays always get me pumped!

  • Seem's to me that you missed the point of this song.

  • she pastaway... but her songs remains in our hearts... we love you karen:)

  • Karen Carpenter and Ewa Cassidy, no one can beat them. The most beautiful voices, voices of angels. How weird they both died young!!!

  • great song, i like the innocence of it, compared to what exists today

  • My mothers chin just wobbled to this song.. she never gets emotional about.. she says there's no music like this anymore.. really touches her. Best voice of all time.. so rich and smooth.. dont know any artist that compares to her, theres good singers, but not like this

  • the most beautiful voice of her era

  • AMEN to that! I still get choked up. I had EVERY album Carpenters put out. Now working on CDs...

  • like it

  • This is my favourite Carpenters song . She had a voice like a angel . Great talent, cut off in her prime . very sad .

  • I lived the 70's with you Karen! What an era! God bless & Rest In Peace!

  • An american treasure.......gone never forgetten..... :o)

  • One of the most rare talent....sweetest voice of a legend...

  • Beautiful!

  • I love Karen Carpenter. I was sad at the news of her death. I cried with grief. As I had no money, I was able to buy an expensive LP album. I always borrowed some albums from many classmates. This is a sad song...I felt onely. カーペンターズは今も学生時代の大切な思い出です。今もし生きていたら何処かで会えたかな。ありがとう、カレン。

  • Your English is superb .

  • Dear Whitewall08

Thank you very much. [I was wrong → I wasn't able to ] I think Karen Carpenter is the best friend of my youth. Good-bye my friend!

  • Thank you japanesedesignerx . Take care ;-)

  • Dear Whitewall08

Thank you very much. [I was wrong → I wasn't able to ] I think Karen Carpenter is the best friend of my youth. Good-bye my friend!

  • Sorry...a double comment.

  • Karen had a way of singing that made you feel she was singing to you, and you only. Very intimate.

  • Love you Karen...

  • awesome voice, shame she killed herself, so much bloddy talent

  • just listen awesome

  • Such a lovely voice! I hope she's in heaven leading the angels in song. Love and miss you Karen.

  • Nagehs, stop posting spam! Someone needs to stomp on your head until you get the message!

  • Just keep clicking "Spam" whenever you see the comment. YouTube will get the message, and will eventually ban them.

  • One of the most amazing things about Karen Carpenter was that she never had voice lessons. What she had was self-taught, natural talent.

  • This is an excellent song, anyway, but Karen could take the most mediocre stuff and make it sound like a million dollars.. I love and miss you, babe.. RIP...

    Tony xxx

  • I agree with you Toni.

  • i like her wonderful voice. it's such a pity that not many asians can sing like that.

  • Ah, remember the days when talent and beauty was part mainstream music? This song is sung so perfectly--every note his nailed down properly and profoundly.

  • Beautiful song. Karen looked and sounded great. It really is too bad. One of the most beautiful voices in the world.

  • Karen had such a crystal clear tone in her voice. The Carpenters always remind me of my favorite decade.

  • I was a little kid when this song came out in 1972 and it made me cry at the time.....bittersweet melancholic melody. I am not a big Carpenters fan but this song is great.

  • Maybe, but there was never a bird that sang more beautiful than Karen.

  • That dress make her look like Big Bird

  • Dear Karen, We love you. I was born in 1958 and I will never forget you or your music. And of course your brother Richard. Until we meet again.

     Love, Gary & Leslie

  • Karen Carpenter had the most angelic voice I've ever heard...she's very good looking too..it's too bad .she felt she had to be skinny???But....we had her for only 32 years...a Heavenly gift from God....so Heaven has another star....when I go to heaven..I want to meet her...I have many questions for her .that will last an eternity..I'm her biggest fan.....

  • Karen Carpenter es dulce, suave, melodica, inspiradora. Amo esta voz hermosa. Nunca habrá otra igual.

  • Karen Carpenter is oh, so awesome. I love this beautiful voice. There will never be another.

  • what a beautiful voice R I P sweet heart xxxxxxxxxxx

  • this is soo unfair! why can't we have another Karen Carpenter. I know there will never be another Karen Carpenter but there's so many Britney Spears and Whitney Houstons in the music industry already..if you know what I mean. They all sound the same to me! Worst of all none of them sings like Karen. She's like a once-in-thousand years phenomenon. why did she have to die...

  • my fav song and close to u why did she have to die

  • Nobody has or had a voice like Karen Carpenters. WOW ! Her voice just rings clarion like an angels trumpet. SUCH FEELING from such pain.... :( Her appearence looks "tortured" in this video....of the low self-esteem kind. SO SAD. She was AWESOME ! :)

  • Ppl dont hate her, they Jealous ....

  • her voice was so beautiful. so perfect! whoever said they hated her should not. she couldn't help it.

  • what a tune - I am looking for the Karen Carpenter Story - a film from the 1980's made for TV. I had it on video and I have misplaced it. Any ideas????

  • one of my fav childhood songs. fantastic voice. a pity she died young due to anorexia

  • Awh .____. it's rainy today too =[.

  • A really nice song. I knew it but I searched for it because I saw the movie About a Boy some days ago and the boy Marcus is singing this song in it. It's really nice...

  • great song

  • This is one of my favorite songs by them and Karen's vocals on this song was flawless..thanks for posting.

  • Let me try that again. Personally I think she has the most beautiful voice ever in the history of voices.

  • Personally I think she has the most beautiful ever in the history of voices.

  • Karen Carpenter and Julie Andrews are the best!

  • 100% agree, you have my taste :) I thought I was the only one...

  • Checkout that hardcore offence at the beginning, and then again later when that Sax unleashes it.

  • fallugaloog - i'm 13 and this is one of my favourite songs of all time!

  • Love this video. Just a lady and a piano. No fancy lighting, special effects, or background dancers. She doesn't need them.

  • Notice the saxophone, the harmonica, the entire fucking orchestra, and the backing singers. Whilst you're noticing the saxophone, notice the hardcore offence it chimes in with. Man.

  • I'm so glad you posted this. The Carpenters seem to have been forgotten on Oldies stations and the young generation doesn't even know who she was or how amazing she was. I would love to see a Carpenters revival of sorts. Their music should not be forgotten.
