  • I stopped listening at 0:19.

You take in the meaning of the word minority incorrectly. It's a word which indicates that particular group of people are less in number than an opposing/contrasting majority, and usually in the case of population it is ethnicity.

You just don't like the word because you ARE a minority. If I were to live in South Africa or in Japan/Korea as a white, I would be considered a minority but I wouldn't care about it.

Blacks waste too much time being offended by nothing.

  • Look it's obvious to me that you don't understand what is going on here. I understand what you're saying, but Multiracial people of all ethnic backgrounds are the majority in America. That's the point. That means that Caucasians are afraid to admit that maybe they may be mixed in some way or fashion so I'm used to this. I'm a realist and that's a fact. Plus when a person says minority, what color skinned person first thing that comes into your mind?

  • First off, people of all ethnic backgrounds are nowhere near the majority as of now.

68% of the population is white.

15% of the population is hispanic.

12% of the population is black.

5% of the population is asian.

I understand what you are saying, that we are a 'melting pot' of culture and ethnicity, in comparison to other countries. But no offense, when I'm at a grocery store or the mall or somewhere else populated and I only see a handful of black people in a crowd, they're a minority.

  • And I don't use the word in a negative way, which leads me to confusion as to why other races take offense to it. In this day and age in the US, minorities have been getting more help than ever, even having advantages with getting reserved enrollment spots in some universities just because they are a minority, for example. Also, absolutely no discrimination is allowed at any workplace by law.

  • Who feels it knows it...so speak about the reason behind "blACKS" wasting too much time...and watch the generalizing...it makes you sound unintelligent.

  • Well I'm sorry if it makes you feel that way because when I say the word minority, I'm not implying by any means someone is inferior, just lower in number...

When I traveled to Japan, I noted myself as a minority. It didn't offend my whatsoever.

  • @WretchedDrake .. I am African .. and I agree with you ... the whites and Asians in my country are considered minority. I think the concern is that the word "minority or majority" can be inappropriately used. For instance, for decrimination or prejudice.

  • I don't have issues with the word, but I do think that race is given far too much importance. It would be best if it wasn't an issue at all.

  • "To address someone as a Minority means you think you are superior"

    Here's the definition

1.the smaller part or number; or amount forming less than half of the whole.

2.a smaller party or group opposed to a majority, as in voting or other action.

3.group differing, esp. in race, religion, or ethnic background, from the majority of a population: legislation aimed at providing equal rights for minorities.

4.a member of such a group.

That is nothing close to what you had in your description.

  • You are taking the word minority too personally. It's not about personally accusing someone as a minority, but about stating the obvious. Minority isn't a derogatory word nor is used to create superiority in a majority. Your taking your personal belief and putting a new definition to a word.

  • I'm sorry but you're wrong Whites are not the majority. Check again. Those with one drop of black blood, but look white, those biracial Hispanic/White who are listed as white only. I think you need to check into this some more.People in my married family admit to being Multiracial and they classify themselves as Caucasian. They know they're not.

    Thanks

  • Minority is a statistical reference.

It is used to describe people of a group that are in less numbers then other groups.

as in the Republicans are in the Minority in Congress and Men are a Minority because women make up 51% of the population.

For that reason Women Should not be given preferential treatment over males in school or the workforce.

I hope this helps you if not buy a dictionary

  • I agree to what you're saying, but look at these comments from others and I hope you see what I'm talking about. Minority should mean just what you've shared, but it's not. We have to have a fully equal playing field with one another in order to eliminate racism.

    Think about it.

  • Seriously? This is an actual question you want to know? You're a minority, there are now as many blacks in the US as there are Whites, making you a minority. I don't see why the president would give two shits about the word minority when there are thousands of soldiers dying in Iraq, the threat of terrorism, and our ever declining economy. Get off of you tube, quit wasting real people's time, and go finish your Bridge game with all your other 55+ living community friends.

  • For the reason you just men tioned. Equality. You have no idea the people who use that to justify their position. Many are tired of people patting them on the head say oh you poor minority. We have to help those people. It's time for us all to understad we're equal no matter the color of skin Multiracial People win the popularity contest.

    Thank you,

  • You're an idiot black person who concentrates on stupid shit rather than on issues that matter. Minority? Who cares? I'm 22 years old, times have changed in our generation. Nobody cares if you're a minority or not. But, it's people like YOU who can't let it go.

Look at our generation, black people can call other people niggers all day, but do we get to say anything? Why aren't you asking questions about your race bringing themselves down due to ignorance and lack of education.

  • The same goes for most people who've been here for over a century and have intermingled. The Statistics are off. I've been working on this very issue for over 20 years.

  • They put that on the forms they fill out about race. There are also may people like me who do not fill out racial category forms specifically for that reason. We are the ones who confused the 2000 Census by putting other on the Census Forms.

  • Multiracial people are the majority. I think you might want to understand that Many Whites who are Multiracial (Heinz 57) call themselves White or Black or Hispanic when they are not.

  • If all the stupid minorities would just lump themselves together they could form a majority and then the majority would be in the minority and they would then be a so called majority minority with bad schools and start inventing their own dialect.

  • I know what you said is not meant to be funny, and it would be so funny if it weren't true. Meaning that if all of the people of color who became the majority the word Minority would still be in the context and that's the point. You made a better statement than I.

    Ruth Bryant White

  • Only I don't want to lump together I believe we are all equals unless people are stupid by not having good schools and blaming others for the mishaps that are happening in some inner cities. I came from an Inner City that operated like a Surburban City with Millions of Dollars in Denver Colorado and we were all treated equally. I want that spirit in all schools

  • As of the 2000 census, 69.1% of Americans identified themselves as "non-hispanic whites". Therefore, even if all so-called minorities were considered as one group, non-hispanic whites would still be the majority.

  • 1 + 1 = 2 unless you use minority math.

  • I thought the term minority was in reference to numbers.

  • Whites have been the Minority for a while, because Multiracial people of all backgrounds are the majority, but when you hear people talk they actually are refering to people of color.

    Ruth Bryant White

  • I heard a News Reporter say one time" Minorities Middle Class is larger than it is for Whites" That's when I realized no matter what's happening you are a Minority no matter what the situation is if your skin is of Color.

    Ruth Bryant White

  • Oriental people are considered better educated that Whites yet they are considered Minority for that one statistic alone. Plus all people of color and Multiracial people out number so called Whites in this Country. Why can't we be Americans with whatever ethnic Background we are (not color of skin)? Maybe I should have said when it comes to race and admissions into college and such.

    Ruth Bryant White

  • Of course it does. Some people just have to spin it or redefine it to suit their agenda.
