I think the French situation in 1940 was a difficult one. Militarily sound planning would have involved sacrificing the Low Countries, but that was politically unacceptable. Interestingly, the Maginot Line actually served its intended purpose. That is, channel the German advances further north and into the Low Countries.
The French and the British had an 'oh, crap!' moment when committing their reserves prematurely just as soon as the Germans invaded the Low Countries.
In the 1st six weeks of Barbarossa the Germans DID defeat the USSR. The Soviet people, led by Stalin simply did not accept defeat and continued fighting. After millions of casualties, and a lot of "trial and error" the Red Army was built into the most powerful Army the World had ever seen. Stalin may have been an evil monster but his Iron Will kept the Soviets in the fight. The French on the other hand merely surrendered after their initial defeats...

If the French would have resisted in May of 1940 and gave the Germans a bloody nose they probably wouldn't have had the confidence to attack the USSR. The way they crushed the French and chased the English away they probably felt the Soviets would be an easy victory. Soviet invasion of Finland would have confirmed German feelings about the lack of Soviet leadership, and rightly so. Hitler totally underestimated the Soviets! I blame the French Army's lack of will for encouraging Hitler.

About "Holodomor" - that was a part of 1932-1933 famine and on Ukraine it was triggered by the incompitent local UKRAINIAN government. There was much less deaths on Ukraine than "Holodomor-fans" are talking about. There were far more deaths in Kazakhstan and in "Black earth" region on Volga river.

I think the French situation in 1940 was a difficult one. Militarily sound planning would have involved sacrificing the Low Countries, but that was politically unacceptable. Interestingly, the Maginot Line actually served its intended purpose. That is, channel the German advances further north and into the Low Countries.
The French and the British had an 'oh, crap!' moment when committing their reserves prematurely just as soon as the Germans invaded the Low Countries.

In the 1st six weeks of Barbarossa the Germans DID defeat the USSR. The Soviet people, led by Stalin simply did not accept defeat and continued fighting. After millions of casualties, and a lot of "trial and error" the Red Army was built into the most powerful Army the World had ever seen. Stalin may have been an evil monster but his Iron Will kept the Soviets in the fight. The French on the other hand merely surrendered after their initial defeats...

If the French would have resisted in May of 1940 and gave the Germans a bloody nose they probably wouldn't have had the confidence to attack the USSR. The way they crushed the French and chased the English away they probably felt the Soviets would be an easy victory. Soviet invasion of Finland would have confirmed German feelings about the lack of Soviet leadership, and rightly so. Hitler totally underestimated the Soviets! I blame the French Army's lack of will for encouraging Hitler.

Do you know it is 3 attackers to 1 defender in simple conditions - practically an open field? Do you know that in not so simple conditions it goes up to 6,7 to 1, m? Look at small scale map. Winter war is not our best war, but definately not your "maket garden" for instance.

I hope this was not made after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but I suspect it was. If so, it is an attempt to exonerate Stalin. It does not describe his purge and killing of the Soviet army officer corps. And only the megalomania of Stalin left the Soviet Army so terribly "unaware" of the invasion. Check out my vids, you can see where we are working at a chemically contaminated zone after a serious disaster. Cleaning up the toxic stuff and searching for dead bodies, while wearing chemical protection suit for 4 days with firefighters. I saw the suffer and destruction, far less than a war makes.

That was a huge, long and crazy war. May all the victims rest in peace, especially the innocent civilians, women and children.
I feel deep sorrow that my country was involved into that war against Russia on the side of the nazis. Shame on our politicians who blinded my people with bullshit.
May the peace last forever in Europe and time should bury all tragedies what our peoples caused to each other! Also we should NEVER forget these horrible times and NEVER let to repeat it again!

The politicians didnt blind the people for nothing what Hungary suffer after WW1 by the Allies justifies their action inclened to the Axis during WWII. Hungary wanted to retake their lost lands and unified again their people how is that bad? @maximatort Ages is just way to express dont take it literaly but yes to all your question there was no "idealistic" or "pogress" in Soviet Union in this terms milions died under Stalin if you want numbers you can see for example Holodomor were 7 milion Ukranians died! Now of course this is estamatives no one realy count how many jews realy died out of Holocaust but is estimative that were around 6 milion isnt super correct but is close to it

About "Holodomor" - that was a part of 1932-1933 famine and on Ukraine it was triggered by the incompitent local UKRAINIAN government. There was much less deaths on Ukraine than "Holodomor-fans" are talking about. There were far more deaths in Kazakhstan and in "Black earth" region on Volga river.
