Cave Johnson here, showing you the Aperture science bulletproof clipboard, because science is DANGEROUS! So why should us here at Aperture be any different?
@humanityisabstract Very true. We actually had two. The first one we pushed the limit of what it could stand, and it failed. So, we cranked it back to what the clipboard was actually rated to and tried again. And . . . success.
The rounds they loaded looked like magnum rounds to me, but I couldn't get a good enough look at it to tell for sure. I assumed .357 Magnum, but I can't know for certain. If I get enough money to waste on one of these clipboards, I know a guy with enough handguns in different calibers to see what it can and can't stop. All I have right now is an old .22LR revolver, so I can't do a proper test on my own.
I want one. But bad shots irritate the hell out of me. Resting on a table, with a single-action revolver at that distance calls for better accuracy. Grrrr
simply because it actually works. Its not rocket science to stop bullets, just a matter of tough as hell materials. This is small, rigid probably heavy and most likely useless in a real combat situation. But it DOES do its job. I can tell you from experience even with bullet proof vests getting shot hurts! the vests catch the bullet, and use you to disperse the energy, imagine getting hit in the chest with a baseball bat. Thats kinda what its like, but at least you're not dead.,
@PLSheffield If people in this world need disclaimers to not do dumb shit like this for real, then we as a human race have a problem. "Teenager with an IQ of 4 shot while recreating youtube video using bulletproof clipboard."
@PLSheffield what teenager is THAT stupid? i mean yeah we are pretty stupid but who do you know who would let someone SHOOT THEM with only a clipboard for protection?
@MechtaDesign It would depend on the shotshells being used, and from what distance. I'd guess that it would hold up pretty well; shot is typically all round, and (owing to a lack of rifling in the barrel and the way that the concussive force of the powder is distributed amongst the pellets) shot just isn't that energetic.
Your *real* problem would be spread. Clipboards be dang small when you're trying to deflect a 3x3 cloud of lead.
This product saved my life. i was being robbed at my work and some one pulled a gun on me then i used my bullet proof clipboard to stop the bullet then i chucked it at the bad guys head and ran. :D
The question shouldn't be why I need one of these, but why WOULDN'T I want one of these. If it'll stop bullets, it'll definitely stop any office projectiles.
At first I wondered why Prius girl didn't just pick up the gun and shoot him while he was down, but then I realized she didn't want to pollute the ground with bullets.
@LokiEarth so what its meant mostly for humor no one gives a crap that you can say you own body armor online =/ ur not cool because you can make fun of stuff online relax
That has to be the coolest damn clip board, I should get like 10 just in case a disgruntled co-worker decides to go Postal and I can slip those on under my shirt and make a hasty retreat.
You're shooting a .38 Special revolver which is anywhere from about 35% to 85% as powerful as 9x19mm Parabellum (depending on the load of either), and definitely much less capable versus armor. Test with 9mm, plox?
@Gunman84 Well, if they actually fired that Walther P1 at it, that's a 9mm, though it's not a +P or any of the hotter loads you see today. I'd love to test it against my .40s.
Actually, we did test with a 9mm. Couldn't get through the clipboard. But alas, we tested it on one that wasn't as pretty, so we went with what would look nicest on film.
@Wacoede Yes, and there's more than one type of 7.62. The 7.62x25, 7.62x38, 7.62x39, and 7.62x54r. They are all different rounds, and have different powers. Some are handgun calibers and some are sniper cartridges. 7.62mm does not stand alone as a caliber.
@Brommykins And let us not forget about the 7.62x51 NATO, and really, anything ever made in the .30 caliber range, which is the same size.
Odds are good that @manyakols9 was asking about the 7.62x39, the round for the ever-popular AK-47 and its clones.
Anybody else think that the metric system is awkward here, and ought to be replaced by something easier to say? seven-point-six-two-by-fifty-one-NATO is a mouthful compared to the classic 'three-oh-eight," which is the same size and shape.
@SonofPencilHead Agreed. I hate it when people ask about my Mosin Nagant. Seven six two by fifty four rimmed is too damn long, and there's no possible way to say it any shorter.
