  • @tumyslamma No. What I'm saying is mainstream hip hop is dead and died with Big L and that is why it moved underground. Your crazy if you assume that I believe that Eazy E, Biggie, 2Pac, etc are not good. You just named 3 of the most influential artist if all time.

  • dang, I forgot when the album was comin out. lol, Common sense = The Truth

  • Hell yeah. HELL yeah.

  • Easily one of the best freestylers in the game, so over hip hop artists using lyrics from albums when put on the spot or in a booth

  • Common is real hip hop. One of the few talented artists around today.

  • when people say hip-hop is dead they mean mainstream, there is still great hip hop just gotta know were to look.

  • DY$FUNCTION@L54 top 5

    1. Method Man

    2. Redman

    3. Eminem

    4. Common

    5. Andre 3000

The MC's who are true to the game

  • @dysfunctional54 gotta disagree with you, you forgot cudi, bob and wiz

  • @dysfunctional54 What about Nas

  • Hip Hop is not dead I hate Nas even brought that about even if it was true to some extent it wasnt fully..

  • MPARE

  • What can you say that’s gonna be original, that’s gonna be true to you, it’s gonna have some creativity and imagination in it, that’s what Lyricism is about.

Lyricism sparks the minds of the listeners and I think hip hop is always about sparking the people. Lyricism ties in to that inspiration, we need lyricism in hip hop. We love it.

    - Common

  • @thefugitivemaster yes we did all watch the video

  • What song is this ?

  • @worrell21085

    16 BARS :)

  • @watermelonlope MPARE

  • @worrell21085 the beat is vato by snoop

  • hip hop wasnt left in their hands, it was stolen, reminisce about the days of golden, the real hip hop era, i still hold true the old cats who taught me, i'll bring back what it means to be a REAL MC

  • @magicool69 a bar is 4 beats, 1 2 3 4, snares usually fall on 2 and 4 so that should help keep count

  • @emcee4CEE A bar is a measure... which is 4 beats if you are using a 4/4 time signature. People do rhyme outside of the 4/4, but it's usually during a bridge that fits nicely with the structure of the song.

  • @ChickityChoice I plea ignorance, what exactly is 4/4 time signature?

  • @hammerman2006 its a four down beat measurement of time in music

  • "I don't watch American Idol, I'm too real"

    Amen to that.

  • 10 people that do not know hip-hop

  • drake sold out wit everyone in young money.. common is real hip hop

  • @MyDogBrownie

you can't say that hip-hop is dead just because people have a different style of music. you can dislike lil wayne or gucci mane's stlye. thats fine, but dont disrespect them just becuase they have a style different than what you prefer. but answer me this, by what you say is proper "hip hop," how can you say drake dosnt fall into that catagory? he is almost the epitome of what your opinon of "hip hop" is, and he is in young money!

  • yee

  • REAL HIP HOP IS PURE COMMON SENSE!

  • in hip hop a bar is every 2 beats. 16 bars is a general verse. Sometimes rappers don't stick to the general formula. I've seen 32 bars at once and maybe even 40. In pop music and many other genres a bar is every 4 beats and a verse may be 8 bars. Music Theory 101

  • Comment removed

  • @magicool69 in hip hop a bar is every 2 beats, whereas it's every 4 beats in pop music and many other genres. 16 is a general verse in hip hop.

  • @markpete100 what? lmao a bar regardless of style of music, in western music, is 4 beats. i'm not sure where you get your information from but it's totally incorrect.

  • Common is such an ironic name, seeing as how his lyrics are so distinguished from today's mainstream rappers.

  • some of the comments made by these doofuses are just unreal dude

  • @magicool69 every four beats

  • Hip hop hip hop..real hip hop comes from the inside..what does it mean when it comes from the inside? it's natural flow, a feeling that means no bars, no numbers, just rythym, soul, and yourself. That's hip hop. So if you're counting bars to get flow, sorry to say but you're not real!

  • @YgryegaO Lol man you're half right. It does come within, but the counting of bars is also important. Because whether you rap to just rap or rap to make songs, the rules are gonna change. When you rap just to spit, sure you just go until you run out of thoughts. but control is a far better than raw talent. If you control your thoughts and spit one cohesive 16 without being sidetrackm that's way better than rambling on for 32 plus bars.

  • @magicool69 every line.

  • you right keep doin ya think common & keep it 100 you shit go hard

  • THAT WAS SICK!!!!! THERES NOTHING LIKE HEARING A TRUE ARTIST GO TO WORK!!! BEST FREESTYLE IVE EVER HEARD!!!

  • to me every album common did from Resurrection to Findinding Forever was classic, some more than others. Universal Mind Control just ruined his streak....and it didnt even sell which is why he dumbed it down..

  • I miss Common's classic era.. LWFC, Resurrection, you know, the good stuff.

  • If this was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away...Common would be a Jedi.

  • @Doza8791 hahahaa, true, true. bet man we are still here on earth. would young money be the dark side then?

  • @jacobroodenburg Lol. Defiantly YM is the Darkside. G.O.O.D. is the Light Side. People think hip hop is a team effort...nope, you gotta spot the phonies from the homies. Lol. GOOD MUUUUSIC

  • Why doesn't Common record tracks to these kinds of beats? Is he too "deep" for it?

  • Real Hip Hop #ThatisAll

  • Hip hop is not dead but the fans choose to ignore the real rappers. Look at lupe fiasco for example, this guy is hands down one of the best lyricist in the game right now, but hes still getting over looked. Soo if people choose to listen to soulja boy waka flocka, its really not the artist fault. Hip hop is dying and We must take the blame, not blame the artist

  • @liltib3 Word! Lupe is an animal but he is over looked by people that prefer Gucci mane and Lil wayne, its a shame

  • @liltib3 Couldn't agree more. Music consumers vote with their wallets. Buy Lupe, shut that waka flocka shit out.

  • @liltib3 Yeah I totally agree withya, check me out, I'm a young rapper, trying to make good lyrics, don't listen to L.I.U. that's soulja boy style. I'm making my own beats too. Check tears and fears, that's more my style, as ya want^^lololol

  • Comment removed

  • @liltib3 you're funny. Cause Lupe got nothin on KRS, Tech N9ne, Brotha Lynch Hung, Common, or Eminem.

  • @advantagehiphop true but you get the point

  • Its nice to hear a real freestyle for a change. You can tell this is real unscripted material its a shame weezy, jeezy and people like drake are calling hip hop today.

  • was that more than 16 bars, seemed really long

  • @thamastaofCOD 16 bars is the name of the DVD he did it for :/

  • Hip Hop isn't dead it's in a coma..

  • @miracle2k7 its on life support ....

  • Gucci went to college to pick up a girl from spellman.

  • COMMON IS THA SHIT

  • In my opinion, Common's the best freestyler in this world.

  • @bigfatdick5000 there are better, like eminem, canibus and big l.

  • i dont respect lloyd banks just for having shitty content and being in g-unit. and pharoahe monch is super under rated, he has so many styles depending what kinda beat you give him. obie trice is underrated too

  • dats wasup...........

  • We left hip-hop in the hands of the wrong people (young money, brick squad etc.)Hip-Hop didn't just die; it practically suicided itself.

  • @MyDogBrownie Hip hop's not dead.

(Ignore my username I just made that back when the Nas song came out.)

  • @hiphopisdead34 Care to explain your opinion?

  • @MyDogBrownie It seems like there's no end to good hip hop coming out. In 2010 alone there's been Death is Silent (classic album), How I Got Over, Robots & Dinosaurs, Somewhere Beyond the Moon, Li(f)e, TSOL, I Fucking Hate Rappers, Antihero Begins, Tragedy & Dope, To All My Friends EP, The Confessions of Mr. Modest EP, Devil May Cry, and Mic King & Chum WERE Cool-Aide. Even My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was good. You're looking for hip hop in the wrong places, it is alive and well.

  • @hiphopisdead34 i'm glad you feel that way but thats not hip hop, thats "rap music". Real hip-hop involves intelligent lyrics, more like story-telling, and not just rapping about the things they own, the women they sleep with, or the bad habits they participate in.

  • @MyDogBrownie Hip hop is a culture, with rap being an element. Until The Message, it was just fun lyrics. Have you heard ANY of those albums I listed? Some of those releases were from the label QN5. QN5 has been endorsed by KRS-One, Masta Ace, and DJ Kool Herc himself. So you can argue with Kool Herc, who as I'm sure you know is recognized as the father of hip hop that those albums aren't real music. Devil May Cry was endorsed by Marley Marl. All of those albums have intelligent lyrics anyway.

  • @hiphopisdead34 how could i when u didn't say the names of the artists?Nobody heard of any "Kool Herc", He's def. not the father of Hip Hop. To you maybe, but everybody know's thats The Big Daddy Kane or Grand Master Flash. Nobody has heard of QN5 record label, in fact i'm starting to question whole argument. These things might be significant to you but what does this mean to me?What does it mean when you tell me the lyrics are intelligent when we don't have the same brain function?

  • @MyDogBrownie 1. You talked about the music as if you heard it. You have google. It's very easy to find these albums. 2. Yes, QN5 is not well known. That's why I was trying to introduce new music to you to show you hip hop is not dead. 3. If you don't know Kool Herc, we're done talking. Grandmaster Flash called Kool Herc one of his heroes. Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster, and Big Daddy Kane were all pioneers in hip hop, but Kool Herc is accepted as the originator. Peace.

  • @hiphopisdead34 why is it a coincidence that almost no one has heard of this man? So what if he endorses QN5? Does this man have even have any songs of is own? I can't find any. What does it mean for him to say "these albums have great lyrics" if he may have questionable lyrics himself? This means nothing if a man with a large title has nothing credible to speak of besides having a large title.

  • @MyDogBrownie Woooooooow at a guy who acts like he knows hip hop but thinks that Kool Herc is a nobody. You're like the epitome of a sanctimonious poser.

  • @FYIRBetter How dare you reply to me about some shit i posted 9 months ago? i'm no poser but you sure as hell are one lifeless loser.

  • @hiphopisdead34

    Haha irony

  • @MyDogBrownie

hip hop ain't dead, the ones that are sayin its dead are the ones "on top" in the game. they're sayin that cuz they want u to believe its dead that way they can be the last ones that did it. make all the cash and be remembered as the legends of HIP HOP, JMT AOTP R.A the rugged man and many many more are ones breathing and livin real hip hop

  • @photonut69 someone dun' told you wrong, cuz the only ones sayin it, (besides true Hip Hop Fans thereselves) was really the people who are ALREADY Legendary, Such Nas (of course), Hov, Dre, and Snoop. These Veterans need not spread foolish ideas like that, they are admired greatly and they know this. I believe that any rapper today who raps about the things they own, or money, they are sell outs. Hip Hop is rappin with meaning, not the same shit that anyone can rap about.

  • @MyDogBrownie I agree with everything you said, except for the fact that they are veterans and dont need to spread lies, think about it if they are already legends in the game then why not proclaim its dead so they can be immortalized as the last true legends of hip hop. but i dont even feel they're hip hop to begin with. so i guess we could say we're on the same page just have different ways of getting to the same conclusion. peace, love and hip hop its always nice to have a healthy debate

  • @MyDogBrown

it aint dead, its underground and non corporate.

    fuck the mainstream.

  • @MyDogBrownie Thats real talk. But come on man. SUICIDED???!!!! lol.

  • @MyDogBrownie Thats real talk. But come on man. SUICIDED???!!!! lol.

  • @MyDogBrownie

I think it's because people's view of hip hop has changed. Hip hop is about intelligent/witty lyrics, good flow, sick beats, and speaking your mind and the truth. Somewhere along the lines, hip hop lost it's luster and became all about shitty rhymes, women, money, and how great you are. The music you talk about (young money, brick squad), loosely using hip hop as it's base, is a completely new genre of music.

  • @MyDogBrownie Hip hop aint dead man!? its exactly the same as it was! You just dont hear the good shit on the radio, but when ever did you hear good shit on the radio? :P Thats been dead for a LONG time lol You just aint lookin in the right places

  • @TheEnigmaStyle No nigga Hip Hop has long since been dead, you just been brainwashed by all this pretend hip hop in the air. Hip Hop used to thrive, now its all descreet, overshadowed by this B.S.

  • @MyDogBrownie Lupe fiasco, Common, J.Cole and kid cudi are ALL keeping hip hop alive lol they aint nothin compared to the wu-tang-clan, tupac, Mobb Deep, Rakim etc... But they still bring similar elements to the table. Lil wayne and all that are shit, but he is from down south, and south rappers have never been any good

  • @TheEnigmaStyle So you think that FOUR people are keeping a whole genre alive? Lets be real, Common hasn't had an album in a while, a good percentage don't even kno who J Cole is, and people are not hip to Kid Cudi OR Lupe just because theyre style is too complex for black people to handle.

  • @MyDogBrownie well, yeah i see your point... hip hop does suck...:(

  • @TheEnigmaStyle I kno rite. Its a shame.

  • immortal technique goes hard too no homo

  • @poophyphy4 yeah he has great lyrics... but bad beats that go with it :(

  • fuck 16bars haha

  • MagnumOPUS.bandcamp.com

  • This man is a genius!

    Commonsense!!

  • omf, i love his voice. so sexy. and so brilliant.

  • @Graphmega the beat is Snoop dogg - Vato

  • anybody know the name of this beat?

  • @Graphmega snoop dogg feat b real vato

  • top ten underrated mcs in the game(not in any order) Common Black Thought Mos Def Lloyd Banks Jadakiss Lupe Fiasco Raekwon Busta (yes even Busta) Talib Kool G Rap
  • @Allidoisdis agree with all but Lloyd Banks?? Come on dude he be so wack! Other underrated mc's= GZA and Big L

  • @Allidoisdis yeah man I feel ya, but I reckon Pharoahe has to fit in there somewhere, that man is a walkin thesaurus, his shit is intelligent and he has an amazing flow that goes with it. Idk bout Lloyd though, he's thug yeah, but as a a lyricist I'm not sure he'd stack up against those typa peeps.

    Mine would be:

Pharoahe, Common, Cee-lo (From his Goodie days), Thought, Big Boi, Lupe, R.A, Aesop, Bun B, and Jadakiss. in no particular order

  • @Mcleod2daMax

    Big Boi true!!...Lupe should be #1...but where's Andre 3000???

  • @chasindacool Ah man I don't think 3 Staxx is underrated at all, I mean he's respected as one of the most talented and intelligent musical minds of the past 2 decades. As a lyricist Andre is respect so highly amongst his peers, so his name didn't really spring to mind, Big Boi came coz he's always sorta been in 3 Staxxx's shadow, despite having the ability to show up some of the best out there in lyrical diversity, intelligence and flow.

  • he may not be the best, but hes for reals

in this day and age, thats a hard rapper to find

    respect

  • @rheoguq not really, your looking in the wrong place

  • why u people trippin he ain't trying to be no ledgend he's just doing him. if u can't give him propz for his abillities u are dumb
