Yeah... def Matt "Country" Morgan on lead vocals. Sufjan with the signature banjo and backup vocals, and it's pretty clear he composed the instrumentals.
As for lyrics, who the hell knows lol. Sufjan is fairly difficult to decipher a lot of the time, and it looks like his buddies follow suit.
OK then let us settle it once and for all - a google search has confirmed that it IS a sufjan stevens song, but it seems that he himself isn't providing lead vocals (Matt 'Country' Morgan is). Let the madness end here.
according to my ears and the liner notes, matt morgan sings lead on "we're going to the country." not suf. this is most definitely fo-sho not the sufjan singing, my friend.
I wonder if it is about The Beast and Kings Island. The "Fred and Barney" reference makes sense. There is a children's area called "Hanna Barbara Land" with characters from the Flintstones, Jetsons, etc.
I grew up five minutes from Kings Island so it would be kind of cool if this song is really about it. I couldn't wait until I was tall enough to ride The Beast, and every ride there for that matter.
Yeah, it could definately be Matt and maybe it's Sufjan playing Banjo (although even that doesn't really sound like his style).
You and someone else said that it's Sufjan just singing in a lower range but in this song the singing goes into the range where Sufjan's voice would DEFINITELY be identifiable.
I'm guessing this song is actually sung by a man named Matt Morgan, he sang "going to the country" on sufjans christmas album, so this is probably another sufjan/matt colaboration. It's great either way though.
well well well, i never knew about this matt morgan guy - i might have to change my stance on this all... a collaboration sounds about right, 'cos no-one else could have done the music to this than sufjan!
I stick by my original conviction: I've just listened to it back to back with "We're going to the country" and it's the same voice as on that. I just happen to think he can vary his voice from time to time.
I think it's all him - check out his song 'We're going to the country' on songs for christmas. when i 1st heard that i thought it wasn't him, but now i believe it was. it was the same deep voice, i think he just uses it rarely.
In the booklet for the Christmas collection it says lead vocals on "We're Goin' To The Country!" is sung by Matt Morgan, Sufjan only does banjo and backup vocals.
This song is still awesome though, thanks for posting all these outtakes.

I always think the first line says "Master Chief begins to rise."

i love this song, but why are lyrics for it impossible to find?

I definitely hear Sufjan singing, but only on back-up vocals. From 1:32 -1:47 - 1:51, it sounds as if his range is going from high to low.

It sounds like this song is about a roller coaster...
Must achieve the size to ride
Must believe the structure sound
Heard the screams in Deerfield county
Hands raised to show they're fearless
Screws and lumber...(something landlords it sounds like)
Sharpen turns uproot the floorboards
Kings Island was in Deerfield township for awhile and it has a wooden roller coaster called The Beast.

this one sounds nice!
which album does it belong to??

This is without a doubt Sufjan Stevens singing. I've listened to enough of his music to recognize this is his voice. He just has a great range.

For all the doubters, just google 'Sufjan Stevens Ride the Woodbeast' to find proof that it is him. The mp3 lists speak for themselves.

This is not the Suf..

What part of that (if any) was Sufjan because that certainly wasn't him singing?
