A democratically ran company sounds great. I have heard of a bread making company were the employees make 65k a year. But I still don't think that is the way everything should be as it would still not stop one company from becoming a super power as the big banks have become today.

High-Speed Rail is only green if the grid it draws electricity from is powered by nuclear power stations
If drawing from a grid powered by predominately coal burning power stations, it is about the same as flying
HOWEVER conventional rail transportation: streetcars, metro trains, commuter trains, inter-urban trains, regional trains are far and away vastly more efficient and cleaner and cheaper than driving
