  • what are you using to record, did you use it with the bass to, no offense it sounds like shit

  • @sanjinator17 Oh man that Bass was shit, in fact it's in the background there, Encore thing, scaled down too, just horrid. I have only recently purchased a proper Bass, didn't break the bank mind but it sound good recorded.

  • Good playing.I hear some blues mixed with other things? Who are influences?

  • nice playing! nice sound too. I've been thinking about getting this amp. You're playing through some pedal first or is it just guitar through the amp?

  • Nice guitar and playing.

I have an Alder Jem with an ebony fretboard, wanna swap ?:)

    Keep rocking man

    \m/

  • @LavamanMusic Nice offer but nah, I love the PGM... man the bass in this is terrible.

  • @redcustard hehehe, nah i was just joking m8.

love the Pgm models too but i love my Jem and in all honesty i would never swap her.

I have a RG570EX all blocked off with a Tone Zone in the bridge and Paf Joe in the neck pos.

It takes care of my gilbert esq sounding stuff.

Anyways dude, great playing as always.

    Keep rocking

    \m/

  • which cab do you use?

  • sick chords brah

  • Great Demo, Thanks alot! I want this setup, it sounds exactly how i want it.

    Thank you

  • The beginning sound like Oasis supersonic..I need to be myelf..

  • Did you improvise this??

  • @Holycrap27 yeah.

  • Thats the sound dude! Nice phrasing by the way!

  • sound just like paul gilbert

  • nice one man lemme guess did it cost about 4000 G

  • how is the playability of that? i really want that guitar :D

  • @Avatar1178 it's a great guitar to play. The only thing that lets it down I'd say is the basswood body which produces a brighter sound than say Alder or Mahogany but then I'm playing through a bright sounding amp too.

  • @redcustard

Actually, Basswood is the most neutral tonewood you could possibly use. It isn't bright, it isn't mellow, it's in the center. Alder is brighter than Basswood, and Mahogany is much more mellow.

  • Yeah I was surprised to read the stats on the woods and your right, Basswood was listed as being warmer than Alder but when I compare the two (with virtually the same pick ups in both guitars) the Alder has more body/bass than the basswood. Maybe it's my ears.lol.

  • The brightness is probably because of the all-maple neck as well as your amp. It is surprising how much of a difference there is between an all-maple neck and a maple neck with rosewood fretboard. They have immediately noticeable difference in sound/feel. Great playing BTW!!

  • @redcustard Alder definitely has more body...basswood is quite dull and flat sounding

  • it's my favorite guitar (L) I'D like buy a guitar :D

  • would this amp be loud enough for moderate sized gigs? amazing tone btw

  • @austin33309 Oh hell yes, this is a very loud amp.

  • the riff is very similar to links 234 of rammstein...

  • LOL. pure coincidence I'm afraid, I've heard one of there songs, not my cup of tea.

  • try to listen to some of their songs, they are great, the mutter and Reise reise album are the best...you're a very good player

  • I guess I should, a few friends like them though when It comes to German bands I like the Farmer Boys and stuff like Vanden Plas, Oh and old school Metalheads Kreator.

  • @TimothyScandella lolz...haven't noticed it earlier...u'r right

  • @soummobd , Ha, just had a listen to Link 234 and I see what you mean.

  • hey just wondering, kinda sucky guitarist right here, but im working on picking right now, and like what excersises did you do to get your right hand so accurate and fast?

  • I was all about speed when I started and two exercises I remember playing around with was one, and Yngwie B minor scale, it was a nice easy shape to remember and a Paul Gilbert signature three notes per string exercise that he does on just about everything but it was really good to get the fingers and picking going. If I get round to it I could do a wee vid of them if your not sure what I'm talking about.

  • great sound man..it sounds a lot like Peavey 6505..which effects you've used with the head?

  • Just a Boss reverb pedal.

  • fuckin' great buddy, i love your sound!

  • Hi! at which amp volume did you record this video??

  • It would have been around 2 or 3 and recorded into my computer.

  • curious to know if you've played the laney lh50 and if you think the gh50 is better or not? there's a demo on here of it but i haven't heard really good demos of the laney gh50s cleans and being a single channel amp makes me weary because i dial my cleans different from my lead tones and the price difference is only about $100 it's new so maybe it's the step up from the gh50? cause it has 2 full channels of settings

  • I'd go for the two channel amp if your that interested in clean, don't get me wrong, the gh50 does clean but it's really all about the gain settings on these ones. I roll my vol back for clean, which the amp does well but it's nothing like having a clean channel.

  • yeah i'm interested in using a pretty decent size pedal board with chorus and delay and all that stuff

  • whats the bridge pickup a PAF pro or a tone zone?

  • If I remember, it's a tone zone that's used in this vid in the bridge but the guitar comes (and I have since put back in) with the Paf in both bridge and neck pos.

  • could u tell me which one u think is better and why... I'm trying to decide what to put in the bridge of my rg

  • Well I tried the tone zone and it was too bright for my tastes and so I put the Paf Pro back in, it's a more smooth sounding pup, well at least in the bass wood body of the PGM which is a very bright sounding wood. So if you know the wood type of your RG and it's bass wood, I'd go for the Paf, If it's something like Mahogany then the TZ might just the ticket.

  • nice sound.. how does this amp compare to the laney lc-30? Im looking for a vai-ish (smooth distortion) sound but there are no carvin dealers n the uk :(... i already bought the lc-30.. i like it but havent turned it up past bedroom levels 2-3. I think the distortion sounds a bit muddy and not quite as smooth and tight... do you recommend any EQ settings to get that sound?

  • you know you can only get carvin stuff directly from the factory... just go to their site

  • Is there a specific neck profile on the PGM neck? And if so, or if not, what neck is it closest to?

  • I'd say the wizard neck that Ibanez do is close. I think the PGM neck is a weeeeeeeeee bit thicker but not by much.

  • VERY nice playing there! I am looking into a PGM301 for myself however one thing worries me. I don't have any decent stores around here to try one out at and I'm not sure how well I will get on with the neck shape / board radius. Could you please give me some insight on how the PGm feels, and possibly compare it to other guitars. Right now I play a Jackson SL3 with a compound radius board and I like it a lot.

  • Here's the stats on the neck.

    Scale/Length 648mm/25.5"

    a: Width at Nut 43mm

    b: Width Last Fret 58mm

    c: Thickness 1st Fret 18mm

    d: Thickness 12th Fret 20mm

    Radius 430mm

It's got a satin feel and is one of the best necks I've ever played on, very fast. over all the board is very very flat, it's beautiful. Looking at the JS3 neck I think you'll be just fine and in time you'll reaslise khow good the PGM neck is.

  • with this head i dont' have the necessary sustain/gain for tapping and legato ,with settings gain 7 and drive 7.5!how is possible :( maybe the volume too much low?(set to 3,5)

  • Right, I don't think it's the amp. For some, having tons and tons of distortion helps in playing really fast guitar and in turn your hands dexterity is very low. More distortion however (in my experience) sacrifices tone, which this amp has all over the place. If I were you I'd work on technique and build up the strength in your hands and you'll soon be able to play through any amp.

  • dude, that was awesome! I bow down to you.

  • Sir, there is no need to bow but thank you for your kind words. Check out my vid Light shred, I feel that I played the best out of all my vids on that one.

  • nice playing dude!

I'm getting that guitar in a few days :D

  • Nice one, It's one of the best i've ever played.

  • fuck yeah man!!!!!!!!!

    you killing that shit! :)

laneys are great amps, thanks so much for posting :)

  • ay 66titan66 they make those still u r thinking of a diff model

  • The only PGM model thats in proper prodection is the 401 with the Ash body and two humbuckers. The 101 is a re-issue with 300 worldwide and the 301 hasn't been re-issued yet, its coming in fall like red said.

  • ..it's 100 and 300b

  • bit late

  • I wish they still made that model =/

The new pgm only has two humbuckers

  • the reissue one is coming out soon =)

  • It's not fixed bridge though.

  • Do you know when there coming roughly??

  • This Fall

  • Wut..

  • acurate alternate picking man!

    some impressive licks there too.

So your set up is the gh50l and the pgm301, any pedals?

  • I actually do the economy picking more but no pedals used just the amp.

  • Nice it sounds really great

ive just got my self a PGM301 so im just experiementing different amps with it

the gh50l is one ive got my eye on

    would you recommed it?

(i play hard rock stuff not metal-van halen and racer x, mr.big etc)

    suitable?

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • Got one asap Tom, It's totally made for you. It's also very versatile. I've never used the amp with the gain and drive full and mixing these two produces some of the best tones around for a hell of lot less $£$£$£$.

  • Nice one man,

    Cheers for the positive feedback.

I watch out for any more of your posts.

    Laterz

  • where do u by pgms? i cant find any lol at least in the states i cant

  • quando si dice tutta tecnica e niente passione <.<

  • Hey man I'm looking into a new amp. Is that a good amp for shredding and metal?

  • It is if you boost it with a pedal.

  • or if you get a compressor and a dot of reverb ,but the OD pedal idea is no worse :)

  • Really? you guys can't shred on or play Metal on this amp as it is? If you're looking at Diezel type tones then dig deep into those pockets $£$ but this amp is more versatile than people think.

  • well Not proper Metal, just a nice 80's shreddy sound

  • Is that a Paul Gilbert signature Ibanez?! That's Awesome

  • Yep it is

  • Yes... what he said.

  • Sorry for stealing your thunder dude XD

  • Not a prob, more the merrier

  • damn man..you got some mean tone and mean licks brother

  • Thank you dude.

  • What kind of ibanez would be like this guitar but maybe a cheaper version? I was thinking of getting an ibanez similar to this but its super expensive.

  • Look for the Ibanez RGA range. I don't know how much it costs but the RGA 32 is a nice looking guitar.

  • dude that's what it's all about

  • Hey, how loud is your amp in this video... sounds killer

  • Think the master was at 2 or 3.

  • i have a question can you hear some diference between thatmaple neck and a rose wood?

  • I can't say I hear a diff in the fretboard but the body there is.

  • Im thinking about buying this guitar for £100. Is it a good guitar? Can you give me a review please?

  • This is a £800 guitar, if the one your looking at is truly an iBANEZ pgm301 AND NOT FALLING TO BITS THEN DO NOT HESITATE !! It's a wonderful guitar with a Satin finish neck that's just fab to play on. And If you don't like it after you've bought it chances are you'll make a profit in the resale.

  • oooo =D

on further inspection, are there different versions of this guitar, the one im looking at has white fret dots and a darker neck, and 2 humbuckers and no single, well it might have i cant see it very well.

if so do you know teh prises of the others

    thanks

    Brett

  • Hmm, there are other versions but they would cost you a lot more than £100. I'm guessing it's a fake, do you have a pic?

  • Yeah link please to the "pgm" you were looking at

  • nah its been an gone mate

  • how is the action?

  • out of the store it was very good but it can go lower and without any buzz.

  • I had a Yngwie booklet back then which helped in understanding arpeggios but then i went to college for two years and that really paid off for me. The next ten years have been great. So go learn Gilberts three note per string regime.

  • you're fucking good. That guitar and amp is killer. PG rules.

What can I practice to get to your level? how long have you played?

  • I'd go with anything P Gilbert says, he seems to love passing on the necessary info on practising for shred. i wish i had the info that's around now when i was younger (praise the internet). I got my head down after the first 10 years of playing (too much thrash and death metal in my head).

  • nice tone coming from the amp, i own a pgm301 myself and it sounds thin with a marshall

  • Well hears the thing. I too struggled to get a sound that wasn't, well, Gilbert. He loves the bright sounds and basswood (the body) is a very bright sounding wood. No a friend of mine pops up with his £200 guitar of Mahogany wood and plugs it into the Laney and OMG!!!!! the sound was HUGE. So that's that really, I'm now on the hunt for a guitar with a Mahogany bod.

  • I forgot to mention that is one bad ass tone you're getting there too.

  • Very nice playing. I was kind of wondering the PGM's thicker neck might slow you down when trying to play fast if you have small hands and this obviously proves that no, it does not.

    Thanks.

  • Oh it's really not that thick, only a few mil more than the thinnest Ibanez necks.

  • truely awesome!

  • Do you have any tabs for this?

Cause there was a REAAAAAALLLYYYY nice shred

and sweep you had somewhere before the middle, and I was like OH YEAH!!!!

  • Would it be 1:57?

  • It starts at 1:50

  • is the ibanez pgm better with a floyd rose or without ,wich one do you recommend?

  • Without, I think the Tremolo one was made in Korea or somewhere but I really don't know much more than that. The Gilbert model should be without a trem has he no play with one. The 301 is the current model and plays and sounds amazing.

  • PG used to use RG550's and 570's direct from Ibanez, and some time in the 90's he started to block his trems to stay in tune better and get better sustain. If you like a trem, I'd say get it with a trem, if you want to stay in tune better and have more sustain, go with the hard tail.

  • do those pgm come in anything but white?

  • The older ones came in a shit load of different colors but the Ibanez PGM 301 only comes in white.

  • the current one is only in white but if you shop around there are others in many colours.

  • The good sound, the good technics, what adjustments were at the amplifier?

  • Oh man, I think something like what I have now where the presence is at 3, bass-6, mid-5, treble-3 half, gain-8 and drive-7

  • your playing reminds me a lot of Takayoshi Ohmura.

Very nice playing. I really want to get this guitar.

  • how does the guitar feel

  • kinda light the neck is amazingly smooth cause its a custom and you can slide from the 1st fret to the 24th in half a second

  • Yeah, what he said. The neck is very very good, so fast but not in an uncontrollable way.

  • This Amp is ,Ampeg Vl501

Scheme both is identical !!!!! Dieser Amp ist Ampeg Vl501 ,schematics von Gh50 und Vl501 ist gleich ,also GH50l ist AMPEG Vl501 No Laney!!!! Scheme has stolen Laney !!! hehehehehehe.

  • How much was it and where did you get it from?

  • I paid £800 from then sound control now Reverb in Glasgow.

  • nice lead playing but your rhythms are pretty boring man. good job though

  • Right, here's the thing! It's about the amp, the amp. The rhythm is basic in order to facilitate the lead. I don't mind criticism, it's all healthy but remember the reason that this exists is to demo the amp sound as a lot of people wanna hear the amp played with some oomph! when I watch this from an ability/taste view, it's not that good, but I'd be interested in getting a Laney GH50 and cab to abuse for myself.

  • lol yeah youre right man. sorry about that. cant wait to own my own Laney one day.

  • The thing about them is the price, great tone at a stupid price. I played through a Diezel Einstein a month back and it was awesome, more compressed sound but it was versatile and basically, I'd love to have one but the total down side was the £1500 tag. Much better than Mesa bollocks mine! :-)

  • Can I ask what your setting were in this video? Right down to the volume if you wouldn't mind ;)

  • Yeah can I echo that comment. I've got a PGM 301 and a GH100 head and have never got a tone I'm happy with. Sounds good here though...

  • I just changed my Tubes to JJ 6L6s and I've got to say I love it, if you haven't already you should have a go with different sorts.

  • crank that bitch, i bought a JVM for 1750 bucks and i was so disappointed at first cuz i was like... well this doesn't that as amazing as i thought it would....but then i went to rehearsal with the band and cranked the fucker and BOY-O that fucker sings. =]

  • boring

  • are you the kar i know i got your msn. If i remember correctly your greek and work in a music shop?

  • heaviest i go is metallica and megadeth, maybe pantera but nothing else. Could you do the intro to cliffs of dover? And has it got built in reverb, and since i cant afford this amp at the moment cause i just got a new blade rh4 guitar for £800, i might have to settle for the lv300. But quite frankly i cant stand my dsl401 much more

  • i need an amp that will do anything from jazz to funk to rock to blue to metal to shred. Will this do smooth eric johnson tones?

  • Yip, It'll do the Johnson tone and all that other stuff. Maybe not the best amp for full on death metal but It can really get close.

  • sweet playing. sweet guitar. but the backing track sounds like shit.

  • gilbert tone

  • dude you are AMAZinG, im a good guitar player as well..but my shreding isnt near as good as yours! nice job, whoever posts negative comments is just jelus..just throwing that out there lol..

  • Dude, your comments make no sense at all. You tell this guy in the vid (who plays amazingly well) how he should be playing the guitar. Then you start whining on your 'genetically developed experience based knowledge' and now here you state you don't play that often yourself because you can't get 'your' tone out of a tube amp...thats just weird in my humble opinion. Bottom line: redcustard did an amazing job in this video and based on your own comments you have no rights to tell him otherwise!

  • Thank you!

  • Wow...

  • hum . what cab goes well with that head for metal tones ? your sounds reminds me of some rammstein .

  • Jeez, I'm using the Laney cab that Laney recommened for the head but I'll tell ya, I was using it the other day through a Marshall cab and the high end from the cab was painfull I had to turn the treble well down and the bass up. don't get one of them. It might be worth going to say Celestion and looking at speakers there.

  • instant paul gilbert sound

  • lol, yeah I guess.

  • your very good, i really like your playing.

    you should make a lession.

    :D

  • Oh jeez, a lesson, scary biscuits! I guess I could put down a few things I do.

  • LOL! Why thank you. I'll take on board your words of wisdom and I'll look forward to you viewing your picking technique in the very near future.

  • Awesome playing.

Bit too much presence on the bass, but, home recording. lol

  • Paul Gilbert much? Haha, noce playing.

  • could you maybe make a heavy video with detuned guitar, and full gain?

Would be super-cool, even if this video is great aswell!

  • Sure, I don't see why not. I'll keep you posted.

  • awesome man!

  • Does it make the chugg well do you think?

Is it a good Metal amp?

  • Oh yeah. I'm not using the gain settings to their max and my mid is high like 5+ so turn the gain up and scoop that mid and you've got all the metal you need but retaining tone that other more expensive amps lose.

  • What cab do you use?

  • GS412IA CAB

  • Nice man. You definitely play the PGM well. Very clean picking.

  • Thank you, it is one of the best guitars I've ever owned the neck is beautiful.
