um, you people do realize that there are different arrangements for different skill levels right? I'm playing the first clarinet part for all region band, and it's fairly challenging, not hard, but challenging in it's own right.
As an oboe, my part is challenging, but not hard (for me) , and I really like the song. But my band only has 14 or 15 people (2 flutes, 1 oboe, 2 baritones, 3 trumpets, 1 trombone, 2 alto saxophones, 4 clarinets and NO percussion), so IDK how we can make it sound like this XD
@karlatabandnerd Uh... yeah, I play the first clarinet part. It's not hard at all. Just looking at it (I got it today) it's pretty easy. I'm sightreading it right now. The other thing is, I'm in 8th grade. I don't know if that qualifies as "Little kids" but if it's challenging to you and not us, there's something wrong.
My band played this song at UIL and the Galveston Opera House Competition and got straight 2's and thats symphonic band where as we beginner band got straight 1's we were better but no offense i still luv ya matt garcia jake morris an josh kantara!!!
@Blazerdaze Mostly for the almost chromatic but not quite chromatic runs I suppose (for flutes anyways). What instrument do you play? I guess it depends on when you started playing your instrument and how you're taught too that determines how easy it is for someone to play.
Haha, we're in 9th grade and we're playing it. I feel kinda bad, everyone else's saying they're in 7th and all... Our band's a LOT bigger than the one playing in here, though. Thanks for the vid! Well-played, and it's a cool piece >.<
next year for 7th grade honor band..[i'm in 6th :3] we are going to play this song and i might get to play the contra-bass clarinet for this part![if my band teacher finds one xD]and i'm currently playing the bass clarinet...can't wait for next year :)
@domoarigato7 Brian Balmages is an intense little man, who gets very red in the face when the piece intensifies. He also has a bad case of lisp. He stressed breathing techniques and proper warm up A LOT. We spent about 30 minutes warming up, after coming back from a 10 minute break
My band is starting to play this song right now. I'm in high school and i play percussion. For this song i played timpani. Thats really all i play. Theres 14 of us percussionists so we didn't have problems playing it. Also if anyone cares we're rated to have to best high school concert and marching band in all of Massachusetts
Our 8th grade band played this at a competition in hershey, PA this weekend. We got first place in our division and the "superior" rating. It really is an amazing piece.

I'm a 7th grader and we are playing this song. It was hard at first but now it is so much fun to play, I get so excited when I see the audience's face.
Ah! This is very good!!! I play the one and only oboe, so I get to play the awesome soli with the piccolo and percussion. This is great!!!!!! AHHHH!! Thanks for putting this up!!
I am a percussionist for the eigth grade band and well i also play in this song for the ninth grade band go percussionist i am also from pleasent valley and i am auditioning for drumline for marching band r bands r really good we play this song right now
@MonstaMarble i play baritone sax and i, because i am the only bari, i play the second lowest note on the instrument for 8 beats straight, how do you think i feel?
@MonstaMarble My best friend is a french horn and she says that she hates the high notes in this song. I play the flute and my part is hard but fun :)
u guys did a good job!! i'm in 7th grade i play bongos on this song with my band. and there are a lot of percussion parts, which to me, being a percussionist, is AWESOME!!! Everyone always takes the precussionists for granted, and everyone thinks it is SOOO easy just to hit a drum. this songs gives us a chance to show that we are just as talented and important as the rest of the band. who agrees?? :-)
(I love the rest of the band, too, just saying) this song rules!
@247webgirl I agree! Percussionist are important and I'm glad that there are some songs like this that have big percussion parts. Usually they are somewhere in the background but every instrument gets their time to shine. :)
@stevenhamlin1000 And its another thing to play several different instruments on different pieces and another to master just one sorry but in my opinion percussion is harder.
my band is trying to cover all the percussion parts too. we have 5 mallet players, but only 3 other percussionists!!!! i play sax, but i was asked to do the bongo part due to shortage of hands lol
if you need any help on the bongo part, i can help you cause i play it too. (im just offering, but u probably have it down, cause band players are awesome like that) :-)
@Kratos9945 Lol that's great! Our band had to turn our french horn player into a percussionist because we didn't have enough people. Kudos to you for playing another instrument for the song, I bet your band teacher is appreciative. :)
Cool! The world needs good timpanists. :) Percussionists instead of drummers (as the old band saying goes) ;) I hope you continue to grow in you're musical talent and playing ability; over all may you always enjoy it. :)
were doing this in my middle school. we just started today and were like freaking out.the drummers have alot of the parts down but the clarinets have to work on the last hundred or so measures.the good thing is our band director is proud of us because were in ninth grade and doing this
The drummers really do have a lot of parts to handle, our drummers were wondering how to handle it all too.
I'm impressed! You are only in 9th grade and doing a song like this! My band is a college band. You guys must be pretty good! You don't happen to go to school in Texas or Virginia do you? I think middle schools in Oregon (the state I live) should encourage students to strive to play more difficult music and improve more.
@domoarigato7 i go to school in Pennsylvania. have yu ever heard of the pleasant valley marching band??a quarter of our concert band is in that.the song seems so difficult but weve been practicing it and weve practically got it
Very great concert!!! My only suggestions is that it was very hard to hear the flute soloist in the beginning. And the percussion were very overpowering throughout. One last thing, it sounded a bit goofy with only one percussion saying "Hey". Once again, Very Awesome concert! You guys are really good!
I am glad you thought it was great, I don't know if some of the band would go that far but thank you! :)
About your other comments, I totally I agree except there was more than one pecussionist that said "hey" they jus weren't very loud. Dynamicsa are a thing we need to work on (as a band)
i play clarinet for this song and im in 7th grade. its rlly hard >.>
