Looks like your having more luck than me breaking out of hibernation. Hope you figure out how to keep the chicken in the yard. Sounds like clipping the wings is probably the best bet since chickens can fly. They cant fly high or far but Im sure they can probably get over any fence that you build. They also dig pretty good so you gotta watch that too.
We had a similar problem with our chickens jumping fences and decided we needed to clip wing. It has worked great and was really easy. I learned how on youtube, and have posted a video of us doing it. I like your updates as I think we are in simalar stages of homesteading.
