I've scoured google for that episode of wired for sex but I could not find it. Can you point me in the right way or perhaps you forgot the name of the episode, as I could not find any video even approaching the changing "sex capitals." I realize its kind of late but for what its worth I like the idea and I hope when you get a chance to go to Europe you do it.
If not I think you view on it is too conventional.
It's 2009 - why not simply finding out if anyone of your viewers here comes from this countries and wants to do it together with you ? To make a long story short: engaging a foreign reporter for free just for the sake of this project ? (I mean, you don't to all this here for money either, so I see no problem in this solution) ...
I knew you are actually going or I get the money back. I enjoy your videos, but never ask questions or anything. I dont feel like I owe you something. This money would be bound to a specific action, no general donation.
Don't worry - a LOT of people are fascinated by this topic, for reasons other than the obvious (you said SEX! Weee!).
I would personally be most interested in the European option. It would offer the chance to include more of your own reaction to Europe - I think an American reaction to Amsterdam and Prague (and from a psychologist-in-training, not a reporter/film-maker) would be REALLY interesting and different. I'd keep it to Amsterdam and Prague - you're going to have a TON of material there.
Gah! And I used to watch this vlog cause it wasn't so sex-fixated. Or so I thought. Hmmm... I don't mean to be mean though, though I am, amn't I? Hmh.
I liked the anxiety-calming video. What happened to it? I still have it on my cell though, as an mp3, I like it. :)
Hmh... I would post a personal question to you, but it'd be personal soI wouldn't want it "out there", but you prefeer having everything in the open so... Wish you good luck on your project =)
If you did the illegal prostitutes in America one thing I'd look forward being included in the video is the escorts view on massages vs actual sex with clients and charging 300-1000 dollars just for a nude massage and hand job. I listen to sirius radio and some of the shows like The Jason Ellis Show and Howard Stern type shows that have had customers call in about it but i've never seen anything from the girls view and reasoning.
How many are free for viewing on the internet? How many have been made by a youtuber, or your average, NON-filmmaker? How many ask atypical questions of the subjects? And, quite simply, how many have been done by me?
There are probably hundreds of thousands of books on Sci-Fi, but it doesn't mean no one else can write a new one and bring something new to the table? Just because it's been done doesn't mean it can't be done again, done better, done DIFFERENTLY.
I guess I posed those questions in response to your idea of a return on profits. You are looking at an advance of 25K which may be low. I am not saying it is a bad idea - just one that has been done. To do this successfully you have to have a hook/twist that takes you above the ordinary.
Also, what do you know of the cultures of these city/states that would allow you to get inside to make a doc that is different?
Looking at this from a business point of view, I just don't see the return
What would get more views would be an expose on the deviant and abusive child sex industry. Focus for that would be Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.
Problem is, my guess is that no financing is likely to come from anywhere at all, unless you can get relatives to upfront the money, with a contract where they get 100% of all ad revenues until they are paid back, and thereafter some percent of the ad revenues.
ps: A Google for "sex capital of the world," will find there's over 40 of them.
I've tried to make videos on the sex slave industry... tried to address it in a variety of manners and I just can't. It's one of those things that eats me from the inside out and leaves nothing but blackness in it's wake. So I donate as much money as possible to those who have the extra strength needed to address such issues.... and maybe one day I will be strong enough to actually address it as well.
This is totally off topic, but since this is your most recent post, I thought I would ask, and perhaps you can respond at your leisure. Maybe you have already responded to this question in some way..if so, just tell me which video to check out. This question has some teeth to it, and please understand, I am not attempting to be rude or crass. The question: Can you wholistically (not holistically) approach and comment on, and possibly, in some way defend pornography?
Any intelligent person should be able to argue both for and against an issue, whole heartedly, before making a decision on what their stance and beliefs are.
So yes, I can make many an argument and use many bits of research to back up the 'good' of porn.
And yes, I can make many an argument and use many bits of research to say the bad far outweighs the good.
For now, I think the best thing I can do is just get people talking about it... and thinking about it for themselves!!
It's a personal decision on wether a person wants to watch porn or not. I'm not going to say yay or nay on the valitidy of either arguement, but to just say this, it's your choice to make either way.
I think it's really interesting! Now, if I can vote on the three options, I think doing the documentary on American prostitution would be best (I'm also interested in the stripper bit, but I'll leave a message about that on the other channel). I don't think it's very viable to speak about the sex industry in Europe if you only take two main cities in such a short time, and while I understand it's not your point... I think it's better to start 'closer to home' before studying what goes on abroad.
Just a thought, maybe you should contact filmmakers interested in helping and/or mentoring you with the process of how to go about making your idea into a positive reality. Just a thought. That way you would have backup of professional expertise.
While I greatly admire filmmakers, their 'help' would be costly (most likely), even if it's just for their travel and lodging. Additionally, I'm interested in doing this the 'youtube way'... amateur, motivated by the community alone, etc....
You say "Considering the publishing offers I get every week ...", so I wonder why not publish and use the proceeds therefrom to finance this sex industry video case study plan?
I don't feel ready to publish. I'm ever evolving and soon I feel I will be ready to begin the process... but even then it will be more than a year from the point of being ready to the point of releasing a book.
If I recall, is this not in your area of study? There may be some grant opportunities available in the form of research grants, or perhaps some artistic grant to help produce a documentary. Government funding I think would be a good place to start looking for funding.
I really like this idea. I totally think you should call upon your viewers for donations and what not. I really would like to see the Europe trip or the American Prostitution trip. This sounds really interesting.
I was raised in many countries, (army brat), and the differences in cultural attitude between here and the other side of the ocean give you a built-in launch point for your work. The contrast should be good. Go for it. You have demonstrated a unique perspective in your vids and a marketable reputation so get an "option c" sponsor and keep your creative and content rights. And I'll toss some coin in the pot, ain't got much but your admins can reach me. You do this and you'll have major "cred"
Why not approach people in the porn industry to sponsor your video and perhaps interview some adult film stars? You may be able to interview girls from all over the world here in the states without having to travel. I think approaching those folks would be the easiest way to go. That's my suggestion. :o) Good luck. I'm very interested in your project.
You'd probably raise enough money on the sex channel it's a really interesting topic.
I can't donate money, but as someone who has been to prostitutes, both legal and illegal in the U.S. and Mexico, I could help with information. I can even put you in contact with an escort from Minnesota who's number I have.
You'd have to be able to protect my identity though. Well, I mean a lot of people at work know I've been to legal brothels, but they have no illegal girls and I could lose my job.
Wow,another video asking for money. Now you want us to send you to Europe. I liked alot of your videos but seems like now every other one is asking for donations
It was a proposal, seeing how people felt about it, I did NOT ask for the money, but am gauging whether people WANT to be a part of the funding. If they WANT to be THE PRODUCERS of it. I have set up no place where such donations can occur, have asked nothing about it.... just people's thoughts.
So your thought is, 'stop asking me for money', and I accept that thought. But it is only one of the many I have received and many people WANT to be a part of it, so far.
LOL! I had an experience with creating a not for profit. It took over a year to get IRS approval. I signed so many forms my hand almost fell off. So five years out means you may need to get started sooner than you think :)
I think its a great idea and you can ask for donations if you really want to, but you will never make the money that you need with donations alone. If you really want the money you need to start pumping out more videos to make the money yourself.
Sponsors are another option and the fact that it is about sex is a great selling point, but I can't help you there lol
I totally saw that episode too! I think it's a great idea, and my personal opinion would be to go to Europe, of course that would depend on exactly what you would be going for in your documentary, or what have you. If you are looking for more of what they did in that episode of Wired for Sex, then yeah, go to Europe. My opinion of the best way to do that would be to try and find a sponsor, or what you've listed in B and C. Just my opinions. I really enjoy the stuff you have here, keep it up
off topic...when does your furniture come in again? It would be wonderful if we can get you off the floor. LOL! Seriously though, Luv your vids. -Kurt
I would imagine that talking to customers of prostitutes, even where it's legal, is going to be difficult, unless you can credibly assure them of anonymity. But in any case I'd be more interested in hearing what the women themselves have to say.
In America, knowing our culture, I have no question whatsoever that I can find more than enough illegal prostitutes from 3 major cities willing to talk on film (without identifying info, but with their face shown for sure) about their career.
I didn't think you would have trouble finding prostitutes willing to talk. It's just the johns that I think will be a problem. But fortunately they aren't as important to the story.
Those all sound like really great ideas that I'm sure would interest the viewers of your other channel. They're all so interesting that I can't really choose between them. But, based in part on your own past experience, I'm kind of skeptical of the idea of financing them with contributions.
Given your relative lack of experience making documentaries, I think it might make sense to work with someone else, and you'll just have to struggle in negotiating who gets to control what (and how).
Part 2. So do your homework. Get hold of the documentaries and entertainment shows that have been made on this topic over the past 20 years or so. Determine how they looked at it and what they presented and decide how you would be different, what you would bring to the table that would make a production company decide that it would be worth their while to produce yet another documentary on the subject.
As I tried to indicate in the description center, I've decided against production companies and want to go more toward private funding (many youtubers or one individual) or great advertising opportunities.
Part 1. One of your questions was something along the lines of "would a production company be interested in this?". Good news and bad news. The good news is that production companies are interested in this because it has been done, a lot. The bad news is that it has been done a lot. So you are going to have to flesh out your idea a lot more and demonstrate that you would bring something new and different to the subject.
Honestly, I am the something new. My approach. And not only that but my 80 million views I have established that I am something people are interested in watching and hearing from.
Considering the publishing offers I get every week, I'm sure my rep alone would be the new that is offered.... and the extremely low cost.
I'm too modest.. it actually gets in the way of me promoting myself. But numbers don't lie.... and I need to get used to speaking up for myself and what I (and we all) have created here. It's too powerful to stay in the silence.
Get loud young lady, get loud and stay loud. You have something wonderful here. There is some serious stuff in you and you have the chance to do some real good in this world. I believe in your talent, so say on...
I just reread this and the 2nd part of what you said sank in. What do you mean, "stay in the silence"? "Publishing offers every week", an interview on public radio, a pair of commercial videos, other things, what do you mean, stay in the silence? There's no silence.
And no doubt about it, you are the one who has created it.
I have downplayed my exposure, my 'success', my opportunities, because that's who I am. I'm just me... talking... about what I think..... and being as honest and tactful as possible about it all. That is the silence... and I need to learn to stop being almost embarrassed by the numbers and start using them to make powerful, GOOD things happen in the world.
And part of my calling is the spreading of information. Because knowledge is power and I want to give people that power in their lives.
Then maybe your true calling is journalism. Advocacy journalism, documentaries, I don't know. But maybe your being called to go in a different direction.
I think you'll know when you have arrived when you don't need to talk about the numbers.
And finally, in the immortal words of Hans Solo to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope "Don't let it go to your head kid!" :)
a) I think that the best idea would be the European tour. It would be more interesting to hear how a more liberal country/society treats prostitution. There is so much information about American culture out there and comparitively little about Europe.
b) 6 x 10 minutes videos better than an hour.
c) I have no comment about funding. Except that, if you can, retain creative control.
As soon as I made the other channel a partner channel it became a job and I lost the thrill I get from it.... so I am protecting this channel with rabid ferocity. :-P It's my hobby and I want it to stay JUST that!
That makes sense. I was thinking of how they didnt want to put ads on your videos there, but they wouldnt ahve any problem with thse. Probably not enough money to bother with anyway. lol
You cannot do this without coming to Montreal where prostitution seems to be a huge business with customers coming from a large radius that includes New England. I work in IT and always suspect that my foreign clients who pick business consultants in Montreal do it for a excuse to get to come here often for that particular reason LOL I hope you touch on that subject! Contact me for free lodging and referrals to awesome interview candidates if you wish.
If you want any help with film kind of stuff send me a message...my personal emphasis is on criticism...but I can still help in anyway you want...I can even ask my film professors...so let me know!
I think that it would be a great idea. I think that if you did American Prostitution it would be a better route to go to legal ones though. Mainly because I think it would be hard to find an illegal prostitute that would want to be exposed, you would be doing a lot of interviews in Silhouette. I am sure there is some independent production company that could back you. Usually a documentary film is under your control so I wouldn't worry about creative control and stuff. I am a film major (cont.)
My tip: ask the breweries. In both cities there are fashionable ones who like to gather to the youngish, more hip audience (like Heineken for instance). I think it is better to contact the european branches of the companies ;-)
Also, check out what the official tourist offices can do for you. Their job is it to publicize their respective cities. Also minor tv-producers and the european equivalents to PBS might have an interest in that. Contact people who can profit from that in some way.
:D you should totally do the european trip. with several different prostitutes, but in a very deep sense.
when you come to europe, you should look into Hamburg, Germany as well. it has the oldest street with the most brothels in germany. or Cologne, Germany, it has europe's biggest brothel, called the Pascha. :)
first of all, i've been to amsterdam and i know for a fact that their prostitutes absolutely hate being photoed, and probably wouldn't be too crazy about being filmed...
illegal prostitutes...im not sure that would work, but you could give it a shot...
as for money...i really would donate, i think it's a great idea, but im a student, who can barely pay her own bills :( sorry...
so...i know you could probably care less, but yeah..:)
As to filming, it's about respect and expressing the point of what you're doing. It's not for entertainment, it's to understand them. And you show them respect, pay them well for their time, and it's not about being sexy, so they can wear whatever they like....
Most people who photograph these prostitutes probably do it as a 'memento' to take home... or to masturbate to. I think there is a huge difference.
Based on previous documentaries I have seen I don't think it would be impossible to find prostitutes willing to talk. You may have to black out their faces or change their voices, or let them wear disguises, but plenty of others have been able to get them to cooperate for filmed interviews.
kinky? a documentary of this nature would not require kinkiness. Actually, it would be a roll of the dice but a chance to make a large sum of money off of a 10k investment.
Of course, the European one would seem the easiest to do, but the costs would be pretty high. I agree with the above ideas of doing an American version then if you get enough viewership, the demand would be there for a compare/contrast episode. I also like the idea of the 6/10 minute segments. Just have to find the sponsor to get the ball rolling. Good luck.
3,686 Subscribers x $3 each in donation = $11,058... that should be more than enough to get you and a videographer over to Europe to shoot this in a reasonable amount of time. Even those who didn't want to donate I'm sure would be made up but the other subscribers who could afford to donate more.
Well if I wanted youtubers to sponsor it (which would be something I don't think has ever quite been done on this scale, for a project like this) would be pitched to my main channel. 46,000+ subs... it would take an average of 25 cents a viewer.. But only 10% would likely donate.
All three are fantastic ideas, documentary films are very large undertakings but hopefully you can turn one of these ideas into a film.
I am a video/film editor so once things get going if you need help, let me know and ill do what I can to help you organize everything thats going to be needed.
I really appreciate that! I know most a huge undertakings.... but I'm looking to make this more of a typical youtube video, but on location and with subjects.... In a way, it'd be a whole new genre. I almost don't want to call it a documentary...
More like 'filmed case studies'... now THAT I know more about, being a psych major. lol....
Do USA or Europe prostitution--stripping is a different issue at arm's length from sex. A lot of exotic dancers are normal working people. Prostitutes, legal or illegal, take a much bigger step into the industry.
Do 6 x 10 min. People come to YT to see a variety of vids. 1 hr is too long. This will also force you to edit more. (hint hint)
Say "no editorial control" not "no creative licence" I'm assuming your content will be factual not a creative work!
Go Girl... Somehow I expect $150,000 to $200,000 should get you a video with the quality to sell to TV stations and Cable.Your trip cost $10,000 and for a min. and 4 others at the same amount. Editing in US and marketing will eat up the rest. Then you can get a % everytime it is shown. The production company owns the media format. Sounds like it might make it. Go fishing..
Kicesies, you're a star in the making,do whatever your gut tells you to.Youve had internet success thus far;just like Kimbo Slice, started off on the internet then went into mixed martial arts training and into a league and is still undefeated i think. But,the point is,I have faith in you and you know what you're talking about. Youre doing your school stuff and yea,you definitely know your stuff.Ive always been a fan, watched probably all or close to all of your videos, good luck with whatever your
Sounds like quite an interesting concept. I am all for documentaries. Obviously, from a logistical perspective it will be difficult. Documentaries, even the very best, don't get nearly as much revenue as other types of shows. I wish you the very best in finding a sponsor willing to do this.
I really love your idea. I think it would shed a lot of light on a subject that many people (consciously or subconsciously) put to the back of their minds. My guess is that the topic and the taboo nature of it would be very interesting to viewers.
I most like the idea of the American prostitution. I think that it would be much more interesting to see what's happening here in our own country. I guess if that one took off, you could always do the Prague and Amsterdam video.
hmmmm, ok i really do like this idea. My favorite of the three happens to be the least expensive but i would enjoy watching it the most i think... now I don't really know if all your youtubers would be able to get you enough money to do that but If you get a really good money raising video i could be wrong. Anyways, i think that it would be cool, and im sure there are plenty of companies who would sponsor it. Oh did i mention i would donate if you do it? anyways, GOOD LUCK!
I like the European idea. Dont do the American Prostitute one because its sounds too dangers and I think I just saw a special on ABC last month on the exact same subject.
Cool idea. You should do that story about America, both kinds of people. It would be interesting to hear what life is like for people who experience that on a daily basis. Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do.
I think the whole thing is an awesome idea. I really like the Europe idea and I think your insight would be fascinating as you personally explore the changing of the sex capital of the world. As for the money. I mean you have over 40,000 subscribers on your other channel. Just think if anyone gave a buck or two each you would be all set. Asking for something as little as a dollar and you might have more people give. Best of luck
I've been in Europe (mainly Germany) and it is looked upon differently. What would be interesting is a short bio on a young college student who moonlight's like that. I've heard that they pay for college in some cases.
to tell u what i think ,,most the viewers watch because they trust what u say and think so go with ur gut and make the documentary that would be sweeet and it is interesting as hell,,plus you get to go to amsterdamn and prog too ,,so hell yea try to get the sponser and go,,u deserve to be heard by as many as possible.,,,, billyf.

On the other hand, there are people watching!

All three are interesting, but I had to choose I'd do European trip.
Talking about money, I'm afraid I don't really believe you can get much money from us viewers.
I'd tried to convince companies, after all, it'd be advertising in places they never been.
Just plain and simple marketting.

You do this and you'll have major "cred"
markinark61 3 years ago
Why not approach people in the porn industry to sponsor your video and perhaps interview some adult film stars? You may be able to interview girls from all over the world here in the states without having to travel. I think approaching those folks would be the easiest way to go. That's my suggestion. :o) Good luck. I'm very interested in your project.

I do think TONS of people would be interested... the prostitutes in america idea.... or the strippers in America......

Well, I mean a lot of people at work know I've been to legal brothels, but they have no illegal girls and I could lose my job.
txtigerman 3 years ago
Wow,another video asking for money. Now you want us to send you to Europe. I liked alot of your videos but seems like now every other one is asking for donations
map37692 3 years ago
It was a proposal, seeing how people felt about it, I did NOT ask for the money, but am gauging whether people WANT to be a part of the funding. If they WANT to be THE PRODUCERS of it. I have set up no place where such donations can occur, have asked nothing about it.... just people's thoughts.
So your thought is, 'stop asking me for money', and I accept that thought. But it is only one of the many I have received and many people WANT to be a part of it, so far.

Why don't you try to apply for non-profit funding.
Fulbright, mabye?
Or check out maybe the National Endowment for the Humanities?
There's tons of private funding out there, it's just a matter of finding it.
weepingforbrunnhilde 3 years ago
Not looking for creating a non-profit right now.... I'm about 5 years out on that.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
LOL! I had an experience with creating a not for profit. It took over a year to get IRS approval. I signed so many forms my hand almost fell off. So five years out means you may need to get started sooner than you think :)
anonxyzus 3 years ago
I think its a great idea and you can ask for donations if you really want to, but you will never make the money that you need with donations alone. If you really want the money you need to start pumping out more videos to make the money yourself.
Sponsors are another option and the fact that it is about sex is a great selling point, but I can't help you there lol
Hilariousity 3 years ago
I totally saw that episode too! I think it's a great idea, and my personal opinion would be to go to Europe, of course that would depend on exactly what you would be going for in your documentary, or what have you. If you are looking for more of what they did in that episode of Wired for Sex, then yeah, go to Europe. My opinion of the best way to do that would be to try and find a sponsor, or what you've listed in B and C. Just my opinions. I really enjoy the stuff you have here, keep it up

I would imagine that talking to customers of prostitutes, even where it's legal, is going to be difficult, unless you can credibly assure them of anonymity. But in any case I'd be more interested in hearing what the women themselves have to say.
DClaudeKatz 3 years ago
In America, knowing our culture, I have no question whatsoever that I can find more than enough illegal prostitutes from 3 major cities willing to talk on film (without identifying info, but with their face shown for sure) about their career.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
I didn't think you would have trouble finding prostitutes willing to talk. It's just the johns that I think will be a problem. But fortunately they aren't as important to the story.
DClaudeKatz 3 years ago
Those all sound like really great ideas that I'm sure would interest the viewers of your other channel. They're all so interesting that I can't really choose between them. But, based in part on your own past experience, I'm kind of skeptical of the idea of financing them with contributions.
Given your relative lack of experience making documentaries, I think it might make sense to work with someone else, and you'll just have to struggle in negotiating who gets to control what (and how).
DClaudeKatz 3 years ago
Part 2. So do your homework. Get hold of the documentaries and entertainment shows that have been made on this topic over the past 20 years or so. Determine how they looked at it and what they presented and decide how you would be different, what you would bring to the table that would make a production company decide that it would be worth their while to produce yet another documentary on the subject.
anonxyzus 3 years ago
As I tried to indicate in the description center, I've decided against production companies and want to go more toward private funding (many youtubers or one individual) or great advertising opportunities.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
You might want to consider forming a not for profit. If you accept donations there may be tax consequences.
anonxyzus 3 years ago
Not where I'm going with this right now.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
Part 1. One of your questions was something along the lines of "would a production company be interested in this?". Good news and bad news. The good news is that production companies are interested in this because it has been done, a lot. The bad news is that it has been done a lot. So you are going to have to flesh out your idea a lot more and demonstrate that you would bring something new and different to the subject.
anonxyzus 3 years ago
Honestly, I am the something new. My approach. And not only that but my 80 million views I have established that I am something people are interested in watching and hearing from.
Considering the publishing offers I get every week, I'm sure my rep alone would be the new that is offered.... and the extremely low cost.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
She says with all modesty :)
anonxyzus 3 years ago
I'm too modest.. it actually gets in the way of me promoting myself. But numbers don't lie.... and I need to get used to speaking up for myself and what I (and we all) have created here. It's too powerful to stay in the silence.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
Get loud young lady, get loud and stay loud. You have something wonderful here. There is some serious stuff in you and you have the chance to do some real good in this world. I believe in your talent, so say on...
markinark61 3 years ago
I just reread this and the 2nd part of what you said sank in. What do you mean, "stay in the silence"? "Publishing offers every week", an interview on public radio, a pair of commercial videos, other things, what do you mean, stay in the silence? There's no silence.
And no doubt about it, you are the one who has created it.
anonxyzus 3 years ago
I have downplayed my exposure, my 'success', my opportunities, because that's who I am. I'm just me... talking... about what I think..... and being as honest and tactful as possible about it all. That is the silence... and I need to learn to stop being almost embarrassed by the numbers and start using them to make powerful, GOOD things happen in the world.
And part of my calling is the spreading of information. Because knowledge is power and I want to give people that power in their lives.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
Then maybe your true calling is journalism. Advocacy journalism, documentaries, I don't know. But maybe your being called to go in a different direction.
I think you'll know when you have arrived when you don't need to talk about the numbers.
And finally, in the immortal words of Hans Solo to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope "Don't let it go to your head kid!" :)
anonxyzus 3 years ago
Hi Kicesie,
a) I think that the best idea would be the European tour. It would be more interesting to hear how a more liberal country/society treats prostitution. There is so much information about American culture out there and comparitively little about Europe.
b) 6 x 10 minutes videos better than an hour.
c) I have no comment about funding. Except that, if you can, retain creative control.
Good Luck!

There are strippers on youtube you could talk to for free.
I think you should partner this channel, and put ads on it.

As soon as I made the other channel a partner channel it became a job and I lost the thrill I get from it.... so I am protecting this channel with rabid ferocity. :-P It's my hobby and I want it to stay JUST that!

Contact me for free lodging and referrals to awesome interview candidates if you wish.

agactinggirl 3 years ago
I think that it would be a great idea. I think that if you did American Prostitution it would be a better route to go to legal ones though. Mainly because I think it would be hard to find an illegal prostitute that would want to be exposed, you would be doing a lot of interviews in Silhouette. I am sure there is some independent production company that could back you. Usually a documentary film is under your control so I wouldn't worry about creative control and stuff. I am a film major (cont.)
agactinggirl 3 years ago
I really like this idea! any of these would make a great documentary.

CpuModern 3 years ago
:D you should totally do the european trip. with several different prostitutes, but in a very deep sense.
when you come to europe, you should look into Hamburg, Germany as well. it has the oldest street with the most brothels in germany. or Cologne, Germany, it has europe's biggest brothel, called the Pascha. :)
id totally donate if you come to germany :D
LostRedemption 3 years ago
ok, so here are my thoughts.
first of all, i've been to amsterdam and i know for a fact that their prostitutes absolutely hate being photoed, and probably wouldn't be too crazy about being filmed...
illegal prostitutes...im not sure that would work, but you could give it a shot...
as for money...i really would donate, i think it's a great idea, but im a student, who can barely pay her own bills :( sorry...
so...i know you could probably care less, but yeah..:)
angelpoly13 3 years ago
As to filming, it's about respect and expressing the point of what you're doing. It's not for entertainment, it's to understand them. And you show them respect, pay them well for their time, and it's not about being sexy, so they can wear whatever they like....
Most people who photograph these prostitutes probably do it as a 'memento' to take home... or to masturbate to. I think there is a huge difference.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
Based on previous documentaries I have seen I don't think it would be impossible to find prostitutes willing to talk. You may have to black out their faces or change their voices, or let them wear disguises, but plenty of others have been able to get them to cooperate for filmed interviews.
anonxyzus 3 years ago
try private investors, foundations, bored kinky rich people or film makers who have conections in the indy film world
Shaggmire 3 years ago
kinky? a documentary of this nature would not require kinkiness. Actually, it would be a roll of the dice but a chance to make a large sum of money off of a 10k investment.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
i never said it would require kinkiness.
Shaggmire 3 years ago
Of course, the European one would seem the easiest to do, but the costs would be pretty high. I agree with the above ideas of doing an American version then if you get enough viewership, the demand would be there for a compare/contrast episode. I also like the idea of the 6/10 minute segments. Just have to find the sponsor to get the ball rolling. Good luck.
imaclocknut 3 years ago
3,686 Subscribers x $3 each in donation = $11,058... that should be more than enough to get you and a videographer over to Europe to shoot this in a reasonable amount of time. Even those who didn't want to donate I'm sure would be made up but the other subscribers who could afford to donate more.
Snuf13 3 years ago
Well if I wanted youtubers to sponsor it (which would be something I don't think has ever quite been done on this scale, for a project like this) would be pitched to my main channel. 46,000+ subs... it would take an average of 25 cents a viewer.. But only 10% would likely donate.
KicesiesVlog 3 years ago
I like the European idea because it would be awesome and it would show a different perspective of prostitution.
BrightLightHurts 3 years ago
i like the Eurpean once because i believe taht in france there are naked people so taht would be hot.

There would be no nudity in the film for the sake of being able to show it on youtube and probably revver.

All three are fantastic ideas, documentary films are very large undertakings but hopefully you can turn one of these ideas into a film.
I am a video/film editor so once things get going if you need help, let me know and ill do what I can to help you organize everything thats going to be needed.
allinsaneman 3 years ago
I really appreciate that! I know most a huge undertakings.... but I'm looking to make this more of a typical youtube video, but on location and with subjects.... In a way, it'd be a whole new genre. I almost don't want to call it a documentary...
More like 'filmed case studies'... now THAT I know more about, being a psych major. lol....

That would be amazing!!! PLEASE PITCH THE IDEA!! I would love to see something like that!
I think donations from viewers is a great idea!

Quick thoughts:
Do USA or Europe prostitution--stripping is a different issue at arm's length from sex. A lot of exotic dancers are normal working people. Prostitutes, legal or illegal, take a much bigger step into the industry.
Do 6 x 10 min. People come to YT to see a variety of vids. 1 hr is too long. This will also force you to edit more. (hint hint)
Say "no editorial control" not "no creative licence" I'm assuming your content will be factual not a creative work!
paul20072007 3 years ago

Elderscrolls333 3 years ago
Sounds like quite an interesting concept. I am all for documentaries. Obviously, from a logistical perspective it will be difficult. Documentaries, even the very best, don't get nearly as much revenue as other types of shows. I wish you the very best in finding a sponsor willing to do this.
stillhope83 3 years ago
I think it might be better to do a doc on the local pros first. This will give you more credibility and give you something to compare.

Good luck!

hmmmm, ok i really do like this idea.
