@magafdy1 I didn't know he was going to die until I wrote that scene. Look at it this way--he died protecting the woman he loved, and even in the full knowledge that he was going to die, he would have done it anyway.
So you know, I was pretty devasted myself. I was sobbing at the end of that scene. I had to quit work for the rest of the day.
I've almost finished reading each beloved (to me, any way) one of them. Is it just me having senior moments or is "Hunter's Moon" missing from kindle? And, no thanks, Dana, I'm not ready to get over Jack's death if I can't even read about it!
@barklessbrats We're publishing the first nine Kates one book per month. Killing Grounds just came out, and Hunter's Moon should be up before the end of October. (And I'm not over Jack dying myself, if it comes to that.)
Ms, Stabenow, I work with your cousin John in Oklahoma. He turned me toward your novels. I lived in Bethel for 7 years and have a brother and sister still living there now, I worked for Wein Air Alaska for 10 years in Bethel, Aniak, Anchorage, and Prudhoe Bay. Your books are a treat for me because they are soo real and accurate of life in the Bush. Thanks for taking me back to the great land of the north. It makes me yearn for a simplier, and more quieter lifestyle.
How did I only find this today?? Dana, this is way cool. Nice job on the abridged versions-- what a great teaser ;) And it is cool to watch you present it :) This is why I keep picking them up to read again and again...
Awesome. I can point this at people who want to understand why Stabenow is my Favoritest Author on the Planet. I love the Shugak books, I've reread them a million times. A this point I think I know the first one I ever read (Cold Blooded Business) half by heart.
I just saw your interview with Nancy Pearl on Book Lust and loved it so much it inspired me to visit your website -- which led me here.
I'm heading out to pick up the first books in the Kate series tomorrow and I've got high hopes. It's fun to stumble onto a series that's well underway. It gives me a chance to read the books at a good clip for quite a while before joining the multitude of readers thinking, "Write faster!"
Kate- I just discovered your books from an ad in Alaska Magazine. Since our trip to Alaska in 2007 I can't get enough of anything AK, and your books are the best thing I've found!!! I finished Hunting Ground last nite, cried for at least 30", and still was upset this am. Now that I heard you say "Get over it "I think I'll be OK. Can't wait to keep reading. Thanks
Dana, I just wanted to say watching your video was a nostalgic trip down memory lane. All those wonderful adventures coming back to me. I'll be getting Whisper to go with my collection when I place my next book order.
This was so much fun - Dana, you're a natural! I've loved your books and always long for the next one. I might have to read them all again. You're on our library's list of preferred authors - but I always buy them so I can have them at home. Even though I hate the cold, you make Alaska sound great! and I love the tension between Jim and Kate!
God, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who worries (yep, beyond reason) about Mutt. Thanks again Dana for taking my mind back to where there are grizzly bears, moose & goodlooking natives....even if my body is stuck in TEXAS!
No, I'm still not over Jack dying, but I think it was the right thing to do. (At least Ema died a natural death.) Most authors don't have the guts to kill one of their cash cows. But you scare me... I mean, Mutt's getting older and... If you've killed once, you'll kill again, I know it! But please, NOT THE DOG! I'm going to cover my eyes now... and wait for Feb 17, 2009.
Brilliant writing, videeo and commentary. Thanks. You remind me that I need to get brave enough to try to download the last one. I am addited to the booktape versions (love the narrator), but was too intimidated to try to get the last one when download was the only option. I had better do that, or read it, before Feb!
I loved it, and realized I hadn't missed a single one. I picked up my first book in the Anchorage Airport, and have been addicted ever since. I just wished I had read them before my Alaska trip. However, it did give me a frame for reference, and could picture some of the locations. This makes the stories all that more vivid. Thank you Dana, for the strength and dept of characters, the unique plot lines, and the cultural histories you so lovingly weave through your stories.
Very well done! Did you ever consider a career in acting as well as writing?? I love all the sound effects, wink-wink asides, and cheeky humor. Thanks and good luck!
What a fabulous abridgement! And so dramatically delivered! I loved it. Now I want to read all the books again--and send them to my friends and relatives--again. Good show, Dana! Janice
All that in less than 4 minutes....can't wait till Feb.! I mean Feb 2012!!!

I loved the series as I read it and thoroughly enjoyed the recap. I still want to meet Jim's parents. Looking forward to the new story.
